It's simply magnificent, especially the fight with his brother, the bear and the virgin, and the appearance of the "hose" on the mountain in front of the beauty. Haha, it's simply fantastic! And of course, the legend of Ren Zu is the best book on self-improvement.

So I've been putting this on hold as I've heard glowing reviews of this but frankly

This novel...sucks, even though it had real promise and I genuinely wanted to like it. It barely scrapes a 2/5 only because the translation is decent and the MC's personality is kinda interesting. But the author f#cks up literally everything else and turns the whole thing into a painful slog.

It's not that I hate the MC. I actually like his ruthlessness. The problem is the garbage writing and that goddamn retarded power system.

The author dumps way too much pointless drivel: endless musings, poems, over the top descriptions, explaining every tiny detail of how something looks, why the MC did this or that, what this Gu does, what that one does, even irrelevant crap. Then he recaps it all in summaries afterward, like we're idiots who need it spoonfed. It makes the MC come off like a chuunibyou edgelord desperately trying to seem cool, but it just lands forced and stupid.

Enemies monologue their abilities in their heads too, thinking shit like "my cultivation is at sea level so I must counter like this".

Every time the MC does anything, we get reminded he's awesome because 500 years of experience. We got it in chapter 1, we got it in chapter 2. But the author hammers it every chapter, sometimes multiple times, even 100+ chapters in. It makes him look like a retard. Constant perspective shifts to side characters just to show how godly the MC is at plotting.

The characters are flat and boring, even the MC. The story doesn't flow. It's bloated with pointless exposition the author keeps regurgitating

Tldr: I wanted a cold, calculating, intelligent MC who makes smart calls and kills for real strategic reasons. Instead I got a try hard chuuni sociopath with fake depth and zero actual smarts.

Do you know what makes Reverend Insanity different from other reincarnation novels !? Others use future knowledge as an advantage but what Fang Yuan gained from five hundred years of life is not limited to future knowledge, it's more of a character. Yes, he gained the experience and build his character in 500 years !! So he'll not lose just became of butterfly effect!!
