People, let's pray to whatever god you follow, let's pray that this masterpiece returns.

And if she comes back to me, it'll definitely have an epic ending. I think it'll be better than what the author would have done if she hadn't been banned. Imagine what the author thought when she was banned? It's definitely going to be amazing!

    @ ch373
Didn't come around reading this for a long time & it's a shame that I did eventually. It's pretty bad. The main offenders:
    1) shameless word count milling
Author will repeatedly, in-depth, explain things that may or may not be even relevant. Same chapters could just be completely deleted without any impact on anything, some - edited to 1/5th of their original length. The further I progressed into the story the worse it got. I'm afraid to imagine what goes on past 1k chapter mark. Frankly, my number one novel when it comes to wasting reader's time.
    2) cultivation system & world building
Author rides the cultivation genre trope that it's a world where individual power reigns supreme, yet makes gu system extremely resource heavy. They can break, starve and die, their refinement is unreliable, their maintenance cost can be enormous which all requires a lot of resources both in terms of variety and quantity. It makes all Gu Masters extremely dependent on others, like they are junkies that constantly need to "inject" themselves with potentially a large amount of very expensive "drugs" (unless author conveniently forgets about it). This all implies very complex supply chains and logistic requirements that would favor extremely co-operative societies, yet there's none of that and it's a wild dog-eats-dog world where everything goes instead which goes against it. Figures. Among other things, there is a trivial rank 1 gu that requires to eat a mountain of meat per month to maintain it, for example, yet there are still enough wild-life around to cause beast tides for some reason, and once author made gu sharing a thing it just made everything so much more stupid. Why even fight a Gu masters? Just burn their gu food plantation or something and watch them choke after a while. AND this is just me warming up, as I could nitpick for the same amount time it took me to get till ch300.
The cultivation progression is also extremely lazy and unsatisfying as far as first 5 ranks are concerned. Each rank's power increase is extremely arbitrary and initial details and nuances were discarded in favor of convenience. At ch373 mark, MC essentially just punches harder after getting stronger and his opponents are the random-bull$1t-of-the-day that author makes up on the spot that can be hit or miss (mostly miss) when it outright doesn't break established world building in some way.
    3) demonic & righteous Gu Masters
It's sort of under the world building grievances, but I've never red a novel where this distinction is so meaningless. Author also addresses this topic on multiple occasions, without saying anything of substance each time. It's bizarre. Basically anyone can be categorized as both a righteous or demonic cultivator at the same time, it's completely pointless yet it's there and has often assigned some make-belief weight in the story.
    4) Warfare
This is a bit of a nitpick. I don't know what goes on later in the realm of rank 6 and above where it's possible to travel back in time and all, but bellow that - it's extremely weird that Gu Masters wont use mortal weapons or armor. AT ALL. Consequently, I also don't see a reason for why mortal armies aren't a thing, especially, when mortal lives are so disposable in the story. Why risk Gu Master and his expensive bugs when you can just deploy a battalion of peasants and deck your opponent with endless crossbow volleys or something? A Gu master will fork 100,000 stones for a bug that lets him punch harder when it would afford him a 100,000 men strong army.

There are so many other things that frustrate me about this novel, but this impression of the novel already has gotten quite lengthy, therefore here's a sort-of wrap up and a TLDR:
For all its fame and reputation, Reverend Insanity is a lazy and and bellow average cultivation slop novel - its main detriment being an extremely wobbly world-building.

At Least try to stick with a novel till 1/4 of it. The author is still human, he's not perfect. Give the story a chance at least. Sure in the beginning you may feel this way, but the story improves a lot. It's one of the 3 widely accepted peaks of novels other people aren't just fools

I'm wondering, I know this novel has an incomplete ending and I read up to the end of the first book and it was excellent, but because it will never get a proper ending it really put me off. Is it still worth it even without the ending, and how big is the lack of ending to the overall story?

Absolutely worth reading for the journey. I wont say much but keep reading atleast until ch 1205. Then decide for yourself. Also dont spoil yourself if you want the authentic experience.

As for the lack of ending... While its obviously a bummer, it leaves some room for interpretation.

Thanks bro, I'll definitely get around to reading it at some point, a lack of an ending really irked me, but considering all that I've heard about the novel I'm sure it's still quite worth it.

ive written about 4117 chapters once but thats a bit unrelated. the story's structure/prose isnt bad at all actually, i havent finished it - but what i would recommend is not to force yourself to write constantly as you'll get burnout later, what i'd call a "novelty burnout" so even if writing feels desirable you might not start because it feels bad/off to you if you write bigger works - start writing with one idea if you're new, write anything first revise then edit it. thats what i can say right now from personal experience at least. basically; make the goal one chapter but not one chapter per day, make it one chapter when you can instead. just that change of thought can have some effects id say.
