Growing up in poverty, Sunny never expected anything good from life. However, even he did not anticipate being chosen by the Nightmare Spell and becoming one of the Awakened — an elite group of people gifted with supernatural powers.

Transported into a ruined magical world, he found himself facing against terrible monsters — and other Awakened — in a deadly battle of survival.

What’s worse, the shadow powers he received happened to possess a small, but potentially fatal side effect… Collapse

This novel is also surprising because it is written so competently that the machine translation into my language is almost perfect!

Nope, nw he just nerf himself by saving the world and crying and whining about every single person he "fail", its just unending grind of one fail mission to another with no real story in between. The only reason mc even surive is because he's mc. imagine running into certain death scenerio with 0% chace of winning for the sake of streching the story and suriving that only because of plotarmor.

The scenarios you mentioned occurred for something known as character development to take place, they showed us how sunny has grown from a self-centered teenager to an adult who sees wider implications and has finally achieved something akin to conviction that he was searching for.

Please tell me some moments of certain death where plot armor was used.

Literally the novel is based on the predestined attribute, which literally is putting plot armor on it so that it is difficult but not enough to not die and obtain benefits.

Everybody that is born is destined to die, but one chooses what to do between that time period in relation to one's circumstances, I always considered his fated attribute to fix the end, not how he reached it.

Besides the whole premise of this novel is to break fate, the spell was literally created for that.

Who are you asking to fix it? Me? Then I would have to disappoint you, the time police is already guarding this time period due to it being a nexus point in history, I don't want to tear faces with world government for now.

I stopped a little before that, I don't know, I like light novels to escape reality and think of myself in the place of any character, seeing myself as a slave, having a harem, something strange like zoophilia or something worse disappoints me and I stop reading novel.

ALERT ((waiting for the release of chapters other novels)) . And perhaps the best novel that I have read and which is finished Warlock of the Magus World.

absolutely phenomenal of a novel and I adore volume 1 but why??? volume 2 is just so unnecessary why does it have to start with a very long ass flashback about some random stuff I don't give a shit about and sunny attitude regress. Volume 1 sunny is already fine and I understand that mc develops/changes but why do I have to read a long ass flashback about it instead of the conventional flow where we follow mc to that point why the f#ck is it backwards? I just don't get it and trust me I tried to go through it but I can't Ughhh it feels like it's so different from the sunny I know from volume 1 ehh

yea, vol.1 sunny is awesome, He was weak but cunning, a loner kid from outskirt who knows how to survive and the rule of the street. Later sunny is just a neverfilling void of needy emotion with all his i'll save them all heroic mentality, self blaming for ever bad thing in the world, power of friendship and all that. All the while claming the opposite, like, I dont need friends but whenever his supposed 'friends' ask him and he'll bendover back for them until they drop him after using him or betray him...and we're back to I dont need any friend...until they come back for round2.
is the only person i like in this whole series so far, everyone else can go die in a ditch.

The way the scnes are written to the story, everything is perfect for this novel to be an anime. IDK if the author did that on purpose or not but its great.

Well i hate to say this but I agree with you regardless how much i like this novel pressure

My main problem with this novel is, author nerf mc at every turn, with the excuse of 'fated' aspect he keep pushing mc from one terrible situation to another with a measly wins to keep people barely content.

Unlike reading RI, LOM, TLM, during the novel you dont get the feeling of "OMG, how did he do that and how did i not think of it. It's brilliant". At every turn i see mc waste the potential possiblity and you are kept wondering why didnt he do this or If this terrible thing hadn't happended to him he's have been so much better.

    Eg:

All i want is for him to try and maximize his gain. It doesnt even matter if he fail, atleast TRY. but we all know author not gonna go that route since mc can become super OP and it'll ruin the story.

    What is TLM

This really made me think critically for once at how little Sunny Minmaxes.

Compared to the novel norm, it's almost criminal.

Like Sunny's almost at the level of like a normal human content with being a side character even tho he's oppressively op.

The opposite of when the MC is a side character but grabs power and steals the show from the originlly destined MC.

Being complicated is bad. It just means you can't do simple things well. The author's lack of talent and skill is clear from the first few chapters.

Yooooooooo. Thanks for saving from wasting my time.

I hate this type of shit the most. Moreover, i can understand why many people hate the book having read the ending.

Just to recap and understand, you're telling me, a kid whose lived all his life on the streets and then has the best class but worst drawbacks given to him.

And is then plunged straight into nightmares and fighting straight up eldritch creatures, goes through the depression only to come out with less IQ, a nerdy teen who acts shy around women?????

If this is the case. I completely understand why people would hate this!

Nobody, and I mean, no-f#cking-body, goes through depression or such situations without being forged into a proper and fully functioning persona.

To illustrate better, it's like seeing Frodo and Sam from the LOTRings complete that whole FUVKING ordeal where they almost die in Mordor! Only to come back just as they were before or worse! Even less intelligent for some reason!

For those defending the love and romanticism happening. From my understanding that's BULLSHIT!

Like, it makes much better sense that they seek to kill each other on sight than anything like falling for love!

Understand, just because you hurt someone in order to help doesn't mean you have to forgive them! In fact, it makes more sense if you understand, but are still bummed! This is much more in line with human behaviour!

#gcfz# #MTL Ancestor# #Guru# fill me in if I'm not getting the gist of it correctly

ALSO. can we normalise not having to setup romantic relationships for so DAMN LONG!

Just meet the girl and ask her out! And if she doesn't agree, move on! Pleaseeeee! Let's normalize this!

It's been years since i read that part of the novel, however, i don't remember there being any noticeable change in his IQ and i especially never remember him to be a bumbling starstruck idiot in presence of women.

The decision to not kill the person who essentially sold him to slavery is, well, understandable, after all he didn't really suffer much from that decision at that moment, except emotionally that one would experience due to betrayal and loosing a duolingo streak permanently, and one wouldn't simply wipe out their family if they betrayed you, atmost stopping to consider them as family.

What would you expect from two teenagers who are socially undeveloped, combined possesing negative experiences of love.

I believe the best decision when considering whether to read a novel or not is to simply start it, one can drop it whenever one wants and one can form their own unique view regarding it uninfluenced by others dislike or like.

ummm, you know you actually are not wrong, But be mindful that Sunny's priority became to be able to survive to becoming stronger while still being alive. This is not a world where if he fails at something he can try again, most of the time is life and death situation, sure something things you said are actually true, but still in my opinion it is the little flaws that make the character look more real.
Like actually bro if you were in his world, in his situation, it is very much possible that even you won't think of the things you said.
Even though I love it for its power system, lore, worldbuilding, and some arcs are insanely good, overall for me the main problem has been about characters, one of the best thing about GOT is they can even kill 'relevant' characters if it is logical or if it fits, Shadow Slave has that potential but lost it in the middle of the series, and mostly because of this the characters have started becoming shallow.
The only 'not shallow' characters there are is Sunny, Nephis, Cassie the main trio.(sure there are more, but mostly they are short term relevant characters.)(I have read till 2000)

I didn't really like the title and concept of being a slave....

And start was rather boring too so I really took long breaks and never actually moved past start of forgotten shore...

But this week, I decided to read it and it has really been great and overturned my expectations...

This book while has it's flaws, is still in same league as classics like WMW, Revered Insanity etc...

MC is not OP but strong enough.....
World and enemies always keep getting harder and dreadful and you would not get bored because of power dynamics and struggles do feel like struggles...

Character development is probably bit lacking overall for everyone else other than sunny....

But World building is great and lore is too...

In short, story kept getting more and more interesting and last ark of evacuation was the longest ark I have ever read which was like 78 chapters or something but it was really done well and was worth it...

I felt bad when I caught up to latest chapters so I would rate this a top tier work if you can push through until the boring start...

There are probably fillers at times too but it was an entertaining ride...
