10 years ago, after «the Gate» that connected the real world with the monster world opened, some of the ordinary, everyday people received the power to hunt monsters within the Gate. They are known as «Hunters». However, not all Hunters are powerful. My name is Sung Jin-Woo, an E-rank Hunter. I’m someone who has to risk his life in the lowliest of catacombs, the «World’s Weakest».

Having no skills whatsoever to display, I barely earned the required money by fighting in low-leveled catacombs… at least until I found a hidden catacomb with the hardest difficulty within the D-rank catacombs! Collapse

I was convinced to read the story in its entirety by an insistence of fleeting acquaintances that it's a staple and a tremendously good novel that doesn't forget about the humanity and human attachments of the Main Character.

Alas, the literacy of teenage boys and their recommendations are as deceiving as this novel. It will give you fairly entertaining action, but it will not give you intricate social situations, interesting dilemmas or any fear for the MC, who, as in many and many power-up novels, will climb up until the end of the novel, where he has to step aside to make space for his son in the sequel.

As a power-up novel, it's entertaining and it did manage to hold me through the whole story. As anything else? It's fairly bland and doesn't really enrich the reader, nor does it posit any new and exciting questions. Depictions of foreign countries are also typical for a nationalistic-leaning Korean citizen who didn't research past prevalent stereotypes. The characters are hardly memorable, and will leave your memory swiftly, sans maybe a very cool ant.

Narrative plotholes, winning through gusto, deus ex machina and refusing to die, it's got it all. A good way to distract yourself, but not a world heritage.

I'm sorry for the amount of readers the author deceived. This novel (2017) is a copy and mix of the legendary moonlight sculptor (2013) with hunter X hunter (2003). There is nothing new in this novel, only plagiarism.

This isn't a well written story, the MC first driving force is his family. But when he gets stronger he basically ignores his family completely and concentrates on levelling up.

No mention of better housing or care for his sister or mother. He just buys himself a new suit to showoff at her school.

Not sure if it is a cultural thing but I've noted this on many Korean books, the moment the MC gets strong he stops caring for his family it likes the authors have not concept of familiar obligations.

There are also massive plot holes like stealling the raids of massive guilds, ignoring ppl he originally owed his life too. Various little things like that, which when added together makes the story very subpar.

It's a shame as the overall plot wasn't bad, just the execution.

What started my journey and eventual addiction... Kuddos to the author for being the gateway to endless new universes. May be nostalgia but this along with the Desolate era, Mother of Learning and Lord of Mysteries cemented my love for this genre. I only hope that it may do the same for many others to come be it through it's light novel, webcomic or eventual animation.

So I just found out that they are making an anime of this, and after watching the trailer, I honestly don’t like how the MC looks. Like seriously why didn’t they just make him look the same as in the manhwa? The main reason I like this novel is because of the MC, if I’m going to watch an anime, the way he looks is obviously a big deal. Anyways I’ve stopped watching anime for over a year now due to nothing catching my interest, the only anime I’ve watched is demon slayers new season.
