Release That Witch(RTW) is a similar kingdom building novel, which has magic element to it . The story was set not exactly in a swords and magic world , but there were witches and magic. This novel was a blockbuster in webnovel. Maybe people find these two novels similar because both are from same genre

Can someone explain why they keep comparing this tomRTW?
Don’t tell me it’s because this novel is about world building
If so does that mean all world building novels should be compared tomRTW?
It’s like comparing all system novels to solo levelling
    Why compare?
They are not the same thing at all

Exactly , people don't get this. Release that witch is way too fast paced, like he developed flintlocks in some 5,6 chapters and brings machine guns when he was clearly a mechanical engineer. Unlike Julian webber who was a military officer .
This comparison doesn't make sense at all.

They compare all Kingdom Building / Military type webnovel to RTW because it was one of the first webnovel to do. So they alwasy compare it to the original.

Except for the last hundred or so chapters RTW is a f#cking masterpiece. Don't bother comparing this to it. This novel is much faster paced and the plot armour is a not thick but its got a couple pounds. It's entertaining, I hope the antagonist aren't all demonized and stupid or I might drop it.

Release that witch is a masterpiece you say ??
The protagonist (I.e the one who transmigrated from China to Roland Wimbledon. ) was clearly a mechanical engineer . But he was able to remember the blueprint and the way to flintlocks and machine guns like it was alphabets and numericals . It doesn't make sense for a mechanical engineer to have such deep military knowledge, whereas Julian webber is a military officer who was the rank one student in his academy. And he has served quite a time period in military , so he knows about weapons and war tactics.
Saying release that witch was better than this , idk what to say after reading that 😐

The U.S military doesn't teach you how to make flintlocks and other horribly outdated technology, they only care that you can use and maintain the equipment they give you.
The reason I like RTW isn't the technological progression but the characters and world, Of course the ways they use magic to recreate and substitute processes is interesting.

Yeah , in your words U.S Military isn't supposed to teach flintlocks and primitive firearms to officers . Then how in the world a Chinese mechanical engineer successful made even machine guns and nuclear weapons in a medival world ?? . Rtw started out good , and it went very fast paced . The construction of weapons and other utilities from modern world must've took a certain time atleast. The author made it seem like some sort of genie .

This book is not bad when compared to rtw in whose story , the late middle part completely didn't make sense . And rtw isn't that masterpiece too . You can call it a pioneer in kingdom building genre .

RTW went of the deep end after the dream world was introduced, my main gripe with this novel is the pace. Kinda wish it went a bit deeper with explaining battles and intrigue, usually they just repeat how amazing barengar is.

Yeah, agreed that here it seems like the plot revolves around Berenger. Unlike rtw where the witches were the firepower of Roland , Berenger doesn't has anyone who has supernatural ability here , so it is supposed to be him who lifts everything on his own shoulders.
And when Berenger has plans to become the emperor by either subduing or annihilating his foes and gathering allies. The author has to make his character a mighty and dominant man , who's intelligent and brave . We can't accept some half ass-ed dude to become an emperor , right?

Sorry for any error, I wrote by google translate

I will try to be as complete as possible in this comment, coming from someone who has read Release The Witch all the way through and is in the current chapters. It's not wrong to call this RTW work in easy mode: The MC is blessed with an isolated land, with resources, and it doesn't take long to take full control of the region through his father and start bringing the technology of centuries forward . Some may consider a script flaw the characters simply accept everything and give him the nickname of genius or blessed, because in fact all their plans work perfectly and there is no trial and error as we see in RTW. I particularly disliked it, as it reminds me of the OP protagonists of isekais works that manage to solve everything without much effort, so the chapters focused on this part don't bring any great immersion or creativity, becoming even a little boring for those not used to constructions. of this kind of world.

And speaking of world building, it's pretty OK. It pleased me to be a parallel reality of the land where history is taking place differently. But despite liking history in high school, it is a negative point for the author for having given great focus on the names of provinces and regions close to Germany in the place, as well as serving as a small guide to the current situation, there are few better explanations. chapters after that makes the various names small details that some may end up ignoring.

Now as for the protagonist... I'm kind of tricky to say because Roland clearly has a better development in forming friendly and interpersonal relationships with others, plus a drama added in other chapters by the witches. In the case of Berengar, we see an alpha male and determined acting at full steam, superficially manipulating his allies and the members of his inner circle, and although from time to time the author caresses this alpha male ego, the personality of a leader and of someone. with little moral compass they merge and add well to this period of war and accelerated development in a "medieval" world when we still have the 100 years war, the Reconquest, and the post-Alexander the Great empires

Finally, the focus of the work is not a slice of life that brings technology, it is a work well focused on territory development, geopolitics, war, conflict of religion, and other factors that make the work a good read. Of course, there's also the scoop of the MC's brother's wife going from being a masochist to a sex slave in a week with the MC being a virgin in the past and present life, but that's taken into account as the author needed to introduce a good intelligence officer and have a solid romance early on.

His past life virginity was due to the fact that he was not financially independent or to be precise, he was not that rich . His face wasn't that good looking too. In this life , he's a noble ( I.e nobles are pretty much celebrities in medieval period) his stunning looks which has even charmed the heavenly linde who was one of the 3 beauties of Austria . And the knowledge and experience from his past life, through which he has an edge over his opponents and allies altogether. Due to these factors his behaviour, demeanor , temper and disposition migh've vastly changed. Remember the factors which influence or shape our character is the environment and the situation we're surrounded by it .

So , it's not a wonder that he changed during his life as Berenger Von kufstein

Well, to describe this novel, it is Release That Witch on easy mode. Everything just goes well for the MC, too well in fact. MC is like the male version of Mary Sue, what was it, Gary Stu? I can't say the novel is bad, it is just that it doesn't make sense that everything happens so quickly and always in a positive direction. Other than that, it was an okay novel to pass time with. Having read RTW more than once, I can only say that this is a copy of RTW but with little to no details on the technology. I bet the author didn't even understand much about the technology mentioned in the story.

Well, to describe what I mean by easy, he gets everything he needs when the time comes.

When he needs money? He comes up with a blueprint. Okay, you can argue that this is his skill, not what he gets, though I don't really understand how a normal person can simply remember anything by the tip of their head. Let's give it to him and say that he is a genius, although f#cking unrealistic. Even Roland struggled at the start of the novel.

When he needs protection? He gets a count's daughter as a fiance.

When he needs a spy against his brother? He gets a brother's fiance as a slave.

Get my drift? He just gets things like some f#cking plot armor in xianxia novel.

See all those dislikes? Those are from fanboys that don't like criticism. Like Bethesda, EA, and Apple/Samsung fanboys, no matter how much money these companies try to milk from them, they find justification for them. If one day they get stabbed due to these companies, they will say "Ohh, they stabbed me for more ideas on their products. Take my money please."

Agree with others saying it starts off similar to RTW, but as someone who just read RTW this really does fall flat.
MC feels like he has a very sharp character turn, with pretty much no moral compass.
Has pretty much turned into an Alpha Authoritarian ego trip with poor story telling. (Ch. 177 so far, gonna read until current and see if there’s any redeeming, but will most likely drop)
Biggest issue for me is the authors attempts at “foreshadowing” have literally taken all tension out of the novel.

    3/5

There’s no world building, too many plot holes, MC single handedly brings the 20th century to a medieval age. Every other chapter he’s inventing something new. 100’s of years of progress like making guns, irrigation, steel, etc is suddenly completed in a few days to make the story progress.

For what it’s worth, it’s well written without any grammar or spelling mistakes. But It’s still a poor mans version of “Release That Witch”. At least in RTW, progress was made quickly because of “magic”, but here there’s no such excuse. Just an MC who has the accumulated knowledge of earths entire historical achievements in his mind.

Don’t even get me started on the romance. A virgin converting a dominatrix into a masochist within a week. Typical fodder meant to stroke the readers ego of being an “alpha”.

Well said. Not sure why this got so many dislikes. It's not bad, but the MC has a stupidly thick plot armor.

He can remember all the small details of 20th and 21st century inventions and make blueprints on the fly, and doesn't even need trial and error. Everything "just works". Random stuff keeps conveniently falling on his lap for no reason.

Some examples from the first few chapters:

Whenever the MC 'invents' something new, which is pretty much every other day, everything works just as planned and no one questions him. His subordinates recognize him as a genius but his enemies keep underestimating him and fail to recognize the worth of his inventions.

All-in-all the story feels too shallow, the MC easily accomplishes everything and there's little conflict, he spends too much screentime 'inventing' new stuff and making plans for the next invention. It could definitely be better.

RTW is not without its flaws (i.e.
), but it does everything better than this novel. Not only the kingdom-building and the technology, but also the drama and the heartfelt connections Roland builds with other characters.

Of course some plot armor is necessary, but stuff falling from the sky into MC's lap without him putting in any effort, all of his inventions work perfectly in the first try, he knows how to do anything, etc. is just silly, unimaginative, unimmersive, and boring.

It's like those isekai novels where the MC has OP superpowers, kills everything in one hit, gets the best loot without even trying, and constantly stumbles into otherwordly beauties who fall in love with him at first sight. Some people may like that kind of novel but honestly it's just a childish power fantasy.

    Hello everyone !

    Reviewing from chapter 179.

For me it’s a great novel and I hope see the end of this one !

Because we have a beautiful background with a rich development of the protagonist as well of the story plot and his surrounding and I love that.

For my French friends I wrote this review with more details cause English not my main Language.

As an Asian who doesn't like history subject, I hope author provides a small note explaining the state of the kingdoms on the European continent and other terms. Like every chapter there are always two or three things that makes me googling, although I don't mind it, it just feels a bit inconvenient lol. Even so, this novel is still a special attraction for me. As long as the author doesn't stop writing, I won't complain anymore. reader reader
