Growing up in poverty, Sunny never expected anything good from life. However, even he did not anticipate being chosen by the Nightmare Spell and becoming one of the Awakened — an elite group of people gifted with supernatural powers.

Transported into a ruined magical world, he found himself facing against terrible monsters — and other Awakened — in a deadly battle of survival.

What’s worse, the shadow powers he received happened to possess a small, but potentially fatal side effect… Collapse

simply put its because of rank, but they also have number of cores like him and nephis, and even if a nightmare creature is of the same rank, the more cores it have the stronger it is, as it has more potent abilities, but it still within its rank, the ranks are dormant, awaken, fallen, corrupt, great, cursed, unholy
but those are the ranks of the cores, based on how many cores a monster has its ranks are, beast - 1, monster - 2, demon -3, devil - 4 , tyrant - 5, terror - 6, titan - 7, the higher the rank the stronger the overall monster is, but the more the core the more and deadlier abilities it has, so for example, awakened tyrant can probably defeat fallen beast, but will wilkely get decimated by fallen devil, usually awakened can fight withing their own bracket of ranks like dormant can fight sleeper, but fighting one level up is impossible and usually very deathly, thats why the people from the forgotten showe were so revered as they fought awakened createrus as sleepers, and why sunny used to say nephis was insane as she often challegened stuff that were almost guaranteed to lead to death if they were ordinary people or anything else from the mc

So there are ranks and classes.

Ranks are basically the potency of their soul and body. There are 7 ranks just like the classes.
      1. Dormant(Sleeper)
      2. Awakened
      3. Ascended(Master)
      4. Transcended(Saint)
      5. Supreme(Sovereign)
      6. Sacred(Spirit)
      7. Divine

Classes are about how many soul cores you have.
      1. Beast
      2. Monster
      3. Demon
      4. Devil
      5. Tyrant
      6. Terror
      7. Titan

+1 braincell detected, finally. So let me get this straight — if someone doesn't like Shadow Slave, they're automatically a loser? That’s the logic now? Damn, toxic fandoms really be out here handing out “winner” tags like candy to anyone who blindly worships their favorite novel.

Let's be real: the entire premise is literally the MC being a slave — not metaphorically, not symbolically — an actual Shadow Slave. And what’s worse? He grows to like his master. If that’s your idea of peak fiction and success, I’m happy to be a "loser" in your eyes.

Sure, it might have some cool world-building and a decent storyline buried in there somewhere, but come on — the MC stays a slave till Volume 8, and you want people to pretend it’s a masterpiece? Nah. It’s mid at best, especially when compared to actual bangers like Lord of the Mysteries, Reverend Insanity, Mother of Learning, Sword of Coming, A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality, A Pawn's Passage, Renegade Immortal, The Legendary Mechanic etc..

If anything, I’m only a loser for giving Shadow Slave a chance up to Vol 8
hoping it would get better. It didn’t. So yeah, thanks for reminding me not to waste time on hype-fueled mediocrity.

Exactly what I've always said. SS is just barely better than NSHBA in my eyes.

The entire harry potter book series have around 1 million words, this series have around 2.5 million so, around 14 harry potter books in total to print it.

If you just want pages then, a novel page have around 250-300 words, this book will take around 8000-10000 pages to be printed.

    Here’s a review ( I dropped this bullshit at around chapter 600/700) here’s why

Edit: by the way the like to dislike ratio isn’t because I’ve lied at all or misrepresented this book. It’s because the people that read this book like this type of stuff. So when I plainly lay it’s content bare, being the weirdos they are, they dislike. Notice how all the other reviewers don’t mention anything about what I’ve said.

Give me one of his feats and tell me how he escaped his abilities downside. Also tell me how his ability is op

Also maybe you have missed my main point. Because the MAIN CHARACTER is a slave. This is fiction, if I wanted slow (and apparently philosophical??) stories where the main character is whatever because (he can’t have ‘plot armour’ and he has to be weak to be realistic) I wouldn’t be reading on ranobes. You weirdos interested in flipping weird ass main characters that are flipping slaves, are not the majority. You lot r the minority. Sadly you guys r also the type of people who read books on ranobes or other websites and complain about an mc not having op abilities. How are people saying it’s refreshing that mc is a slave?

I heard Shadow Slave and i was thinking it would be some Abstract like the slave of the shadows. So i was interested mainly because i couldn’t comprehend the idea that the mc was actually going to be a slave. Then when the power concepts were introduced i was excited. ‘Oh hes called a slave because he becomes a slave to his despair!? This whole world almost seems darker than it should be, always described as though something is missing, something vibrant! So he is going find that missing piece!” Or something cool and abstract like that but nah bro just became a slave😭

I understand your point, however I would like to know what the main problem is for you, the plot armor, the slow pace, or the fact that his legacy, I mean, his ability works in such a way that to acquire its maximum he has to seek out a master and become his slave. If it is the latter, I suppose it is a matter of taste and that's fine, since it is well explained in the novel, in the later chapters, not everyone likes the same thing, if on the other hand, you are referring to the plot armor, it is an evil that I have learned to deal with, not only in novels but in most books, there are very few authors who do not use it in some way, even Sanderson uses it at certain points, and he is one of the few I know that kills characters quite frequently. Finally, if it's the slow plot, I suppose it's also subjective, The Way of Kings, for example, like it or not, is still about 500-600 of introduction, until something really starts to happen and it's still my favorite book, I used this example not because it's my favorite book, but because I used an objectively good one, at least according to Goodreads, the second in the series the last time I looked was literally the best rated on the page, with more than half a million votes.

THIS IS ALL SPOILERS BECAUSE I DONT KNOW HOW TO MAKE SPOILER TAG! IM SORRY. this is edit. I kinda yapped a ton so if you want to read it, go ahead but I did talk a lot so it's fine if you don't.

Hello! So I have been reading SS for a long time, and I just want to say some things. So yes, I also dislikes the whole slave part, as well as the sort of video game style spell. But this all gets fixed later, and I'm not lying! He stops being a slave for the same reason most people don't like that, the fact that's he's literally a slave. This leads to other problems as well.

And yes, Nephis may have to abilities with no downside except for the whole pain thing, which doesn't really work because the author never shows her breaking to the pain, just feeling it and taking it. So yes she's op. But later in the novel, AFTER he stops being a slave. He reached her level and maybe even higher.

A situation where he gets out of a hard situation through circumventing his downsides? When he fights the tiger swing in Africa, which he beats even as a way weaker tier. There's also the many situations in which he gets out of beats easily even at same level due to his abnormal intelligence. His ability is op in that he literally can make anything, anything, out of shadows as well as the fact he can turn into 8-9 copies of himself with there own ability to think and each being there own personality. He can also travel basically anywhere. He's basically like the strongest human in the book except maybe Asterion who you prob don't know about.

He does have major amounts of plot armor, admittedly it's a lot less, but it's still there like when he goes through the sea of flames to nethers obsidian tower and that's just one example. Oh and mordret isn't dead because the author was trying to set him up as a major villain from the start. And mordret becomes pretty op. Oh and sorry for writing this whole big thing really. Have a good day!

Please don’t say sorry, you answered me in such a polite manner that if anything i apologise for making you write so much. Thanks for that . But what i mentioned here was the main CLEAR reasons for anyone. But there are other reasons, that i would have to write long texts just to fully explain. For example. This is very much a slow burner with a low power ceiling, easy enough to explain. But for me to tell you why i think the character development, world building doesn’t compensate for the slow pace. That would take quite a bit of a writing. Even then that’s only 1 other reason there are more. But i appreciate your comment, thank you
