Growing up in poverty, Sunny never expected anything good from life. However, even he did not anticipate being chosen by the Nightmare Spell and becoming one of the Awakened — an elite group of people gifted with supernatural powers.

Transported into a ruined magical world, he found himself facing against terrible monsters — and other Awakened — in a deadly battle of survival.

What’s worse, the shadow powers he received happened to possess a small, but potentially fatal side effect… Collapse

I think everyone needs to take a chill pill. Genuinely, I find it so difficult to imagine the pure rage on both sides of the spectrum with people vehemently defending this novel and others ruthlessly attacking it. I for one am a fan of this novel and had read this to around chapter 2000 before being swept away by other responsibilities.

Nonetheless, I find the worldbuilding intriguing, the characters for the most part nuanced (I'm looking at you Mordret) and I do not mind the gimmick of him being a literal slave (this gets interesting later on). Now I have to clarify to the 1% of completely paranoid schizophrenics, I am not a complete weirdo who is into this dynamic, but it in the context of the story in both thematic and practical applications, is a novel premise. I give it a solid 4.5/5

With that being said, please can we stop biting each other's heads off. If you don't like the novel or the premise, say that, leave a bad review and carry on. And those who like this, don't attack someone for not liking an aspect and understand that everyone perceives things differently. Not asking everyone to stop having opinions but we don't have to antagonise each other and be as polarised it is now.

Your awesome bro. I would like to add, if you are going to try to rebuff someone's opinion, please use evidence. I love SS and it hurts to see so many people saying, don't worry if your stupid and stuff like that to negative reviews, like that just makes you as much of an idiot.(Not trying to make people mad) Just give evidence calmly, it's not that big of a deal really guys. Loved this. Have a good day!

Nah bro youre the problem. It doesn t matter if you enjoy the story or not. Readers should at least use their braincells and be objective in their reviews and not come up with stuff to dislike. Its bescause of the people who are review bombing this which can t recognise quality and original writing that we are stuck low quality bs. Meanwhile novels like this get burried over time.

I get it most readers are f degenerates who are only reading these novels for wish fullfillment, harem etc. Im sorry if i wanted to read romance etc i wouldn t be reading these genres. Yet everyone here gets stuck on it. Their minds are so twisted from porn and internet they are visualising smth in the story that isn t there. They dont apreciate the quality, originality or the narrative integrity which 95 percent of novels here struggle with.
These mf can t apreciate the deeper thought put into the plot and world building at all. They dont care about the characters etc.
Like here you have serious novel with author going all out from the start. There is like zero filler bs etc. What more do you want? Also i dont see anything wrong with attacking others taste in novels. Stop trying to take neutral high ground. This novel is objectively masterpiece compared to 99 percent of stuff youll find here.

simply put its because of rank, but they also have number of cores like him and nephis, and even if a nightmare creature is of the same rank, the more cores it have the stronger it is, as it has more potent abilities, but it still within its rank, the ranks are dormant, awaken, fallen, corrupt, great, cursed, unholy
but those are the ranks of the cores, based on how many cores a monster has its ranks are, beast - 1, monster - 2, demon -3, devil - 4 , tyrant - 5, terror - 6, titan - 7, the higher the rank the stronger the overall monster is, but the more the core the more and deadlier abilities it has, so for example, awakened tyrant can probably defeat fallen beast, but will wilkely get decimated by fallen devil, usually awakened can fight withing their own bracket of ranks like dormant can fight sleeper, but fighting one level up is impossible and usually very deathly, thats why the people from the forgotten showe were so revered as they fought awakened createrus as sleepers, and why sunny used to say nephis was insane as she often challegened stuff that were almost guaranteed to lead to death if they were ordinary people or anything else from the mc

So there are ranks and classes.

Ranks are basically the potency of their soul and body. There are 7 ranks just like the classes.
      1. Dormant(Sleeper)
      2. Awakened
      3. Ascended(Master)
      4. Transcended(Saint)
      5. Supreme(Sovereign)
      6. Sacred(Spirit)
      7. Divine

Classes are about how many soul cores you have.
      1. Beast
      2. Monster
      3. Demon
      4. Devil
      5. Tyrant
      6. Terror
      7. Titan

    Quote: Passerby
+1 braincell detected, finally. So let me get this straight — if someone doesn't like Shadow Slave, they're automatically a loser? That’s the logic now? Damn, toxic fandoms really be out here handing out “winner” tags like candy to anyone who blindly worships their favorite novel.

Let's be real: the entire premise is literally the MC being a slave — not metaphorically, not symbolically — an actual Shadow Slave. And what’s worse? He grows to like his master. If that’s your idea of peak fiction and success, I’m happy to be a "loser" in your eyes.

Sure, it might have some cool world-building and a decent storyline buried in there somewhere, but come on — the MC stays a slave till Volume 8, and you want people to pretend it’s a masterpiece? Nah. It’s mid at best, especially when compared to actual bangers like Lord of the Mysteries, Reverend Insanity, Mother of Learning, Sword of Coming, A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality, A Pawn's Passage, Renegade Immortal, The Legendary Mechanic etc..

If anything, I’m only a loser for giving Shadow Slave a chance up to Vol 8
hoping it would get better. It didn’t. So yeah, thanks for reminding me not to waste time on hype-fueled mediocrity.

Exactly what I've always said. SS is just barely better than NSHBA in my eyes.
