Saul traverses into a wizarding world filled with eerie mysteries and deadly crises.

Determined to survive, he resolves to overcome all obstacles and become a wizard. However, in this terrifying world, both apprentices and official wizards must constantly face the threat of death. Worse yet, Saul finds himself a prime target for persecution.

Fortunately, he acquires a diary that can predict the future.

But every prediction reads:

[You bled out and died.]

[You turned into fertilizer and found great satisfaction in your new form.]

[You laughed yourself to death.]

[Three years later, you became someone else’s potion ingredient.]

Saul: (╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻ I don’t want this cheat anymore!

Wait… Saul’s eyes suddenly lit up—Did I just rule out another wrong choice?

Before long…

Diary: (╯#-皿-)╯~~╧═╧ This isn’t what a diary is supposed to do! Collapse

It’s so strange and I’ve got fears if I should actually read it. I mean the premise is in itself and what can be seen from the comments super interesting, which also shows is the rating. Having a rating of 4.4 from 116 people is actually very good, even if you search up the whole site. Only some ‘legends’ like LOTM, RI and SS can top it. But then the thing is, that all comments are talking shit about it. Did they all leave without a review or what? Anyways, since I’ve got nothing else to do I’m gonna try it. Which me luck.

Well I’m chapter 194 now and till now I need to say it’s definitely above average. I would give it a 9 or 8,5 from 10. I need to deduct some points due to 2 reasons.
        1. Just like what the author said in his note some things aren’t really explained. (Minor spoiler: like what locator schematics are). They’re all things that aren’t really important, but would be nice to know, for a more immersive world and just out of interest.
        2. The reason is similar to the first one, but I think it’s due to the translation. In the beginning, there are some sentences, that contradict each other or just feel out of place, which lets you question yourself.

All in all I need to say, that ist definitely worth a try, but could be not so immersive in the first some chapters due to problems mentioned above. The writing style is definitely top. Better than nearly all and definite rank-able with true novels. The promise is also pretty novel, which makes it rather interesting

How to begin... well, lots of mystery and uninspired solutions. When I say A LOT of mystery, I mean A LOT, with 50 chapters left in the novel and the author adding more mysteries... Absolutely senseless... Garbage power scale, literally any novel can have a better and more explained power scale, "magic joules" + "system power" forgotten, magic? Nonsense, just draw it and then and then, like?? The author explains nothing and sometimes explains too much, adds too many mysteries, it gets to a point where the horror becomes boring and you just skip through the chapters, a VERY, but VERY poorly done horror. Boring battles, boring plot, why? It is what it is. I don't know, it seems like a novel written by a beginner who copied ideas from AI, uh, I don't recommend it. The beginning is cool but it completely loses its essence, I swear to God I've never seen such a boring story, this "anchor points" thing is complete nonsense, black tide? Okay, but it's starting to get really boring. Don't waste your time! 3/5

    I read till chapter 341,
Author did a great job at exploring mystery and horror.
Side characters are mostly offscreen that we quickly lose connection to them.
Most wizards see each other as either tool or a resource.
I still don't know what spells MC knows except very few.
Mortals are so weak and disconnected that we don't care about anything related to them.

GOOD JOB? Dude, what a f#cking boring story. I wish Saul had stayed an apprentice until the end of the story; at least the beginning was interesting. Clearly, he pulls some "Mother of Learning" tricks, but he can't create a mystery as good as that one, 3/5 at most.

    Completed

It’s good read but sadly it could be much better.

I think author drag the Gorsa’a tower arc way too long that other arc seems like speedrun without much of content or world building.

But at least Author acknowledged his failing to explain mysteries or plot remaining.

don't know if age mellowed me out but i didn't spot many— well, i DID spot some problems, but it's not glaring that it'd make you balk, my only gripe was it lacked action. i mean author chose to forgive and forgot so many problems, and he literally changed the whole 'wizard(cultivation) world is a dog eat dog world' notion just to keep MC alive. meanwhile the Golden Finger is just.. there, unused for hundreds of chapters.

i understand he mustn't be too dependent on it, it's not even his own, bla bla bla, i got ALL of that, i even made my own comment of how dangerous to make this thing his core. but not using it entirely is plain dumb. it's like student who don't wanna use calc to sharpen his/her manual calculation and it's not good to be too dependent on it, it's all true, but shit it's useful asl. to have it and not use it is really putting your mom before the horse

first arc basically perfect. i don't even know if it could be improved further. if i could be so bold i'd say it's mature version of WMW and i love WMW, Leylin is the mold for a perfect MC. and welp, turned out he still very much is. Saul (Diary of a Dead Wizard 's MC) is concentrating more on research and brainstorming rather than go on adventure, see the wonder (and horrors, oh the horrors) for his self, and actually use the goddamn diary to keep himself alive

at some point i even worry about the diary’s pages getting spent, turned out it's not even needed. he completely forget about it for months on end and nothing happened, author tweaked down the world's difficulty for some f#cking reason and it changed the whole genre of the story

that's my only thing, and oh, the other is his strength. he's still at 3rd-level with less than 100 chapters left, it's pretty funny if you think about it

    first arc 4.7
    the rest 3.7

it's among the first and some of the PEAK of ancient system novel. the lighthouse of cold, calculating, astute, but NOT bloodthirsty MC. the embodiment of the more things you understand, the deeper you went, the stronger you are. it is the Warlock of the Magus World

It is gooood. The premise, the delivery, even pacing is all right. Power systems were defined well and the author didn't overreach. Its just good. 4.5 rating

After reading few chapters this novel seem little🤏 similar to Mutated Tao. Except for cultivation, this novel is taking place in wizard world
