Acting student Jiang Ci got bound to a shameless system.

—If he wants to stay alive, he has to keep breaking women’s hearts.

Jiang Ci: “…?”

I’m a pure-hearted straight guy who’s been single since birth, and you want me to act like a s*umbag to toy with feelings? This isn’t in my skillset!

Backed into a corner, this top student in the acting department had a brainwave—and successfully glitched the system:

As long as he breaks women’s hearts through acting, by playing tragic characters that make female viewers heartbroken, he can keep himself alive!

From then on, Jiang Ci was forced onto the path of becoming the King of Tragedy Aesthetics.

Others act for art or awards—he acts just so he can keep breathing.

The more tragic his performance, the better his survival.

When he played a heart-wrenching general who died on the battlefield, the Best Actress broke down on the spot, and the entire internet cried their eyes out.

【Ding! You’ve gained a massive amount of Heartbreak Points. Congratulations, Host — lifespan extended by 30 days!】

The whole internet flooded the screen with tears:

“Please! Just give Jiang Ci a happy ending already!”

Having just clawed his way back from the brink of death, Jiang Ci wiped the cold sweat off his forehead, turned to the screenwriter, and said:

“I think my character… can be even more miserable.” Collapse

Now i haven't read the novel but going from the synopsis of it, won't the plot become way to unidirectional; in reality an actor who just plays tragic role will become boring too easily everything about his work will be so predictable, no feeling of reward.
Also i am pretty sure a novel with system like this will be become stale after just a few arcs with no inovation and repetition of same structure

I see this sort of short story as just something to read for fun; they’re not that serious, so there’s no need to overthink them—just enjoy them.

    I've read a few chapters of this work; it's a D+ rating.

It's another weak comedy, I'd say it's okay to pass the time.

Daoist Inkdrunk Review — The More Tragic I Act, the Stronger I Get

This novel started off incredibly strong for me. The MC felt human....full of doubt, emotion, and inner conflict. His thoughts and reactions made him feel real, especially in the early arcs where you could see his fear, warmth, and small moments of happiness.

But as the story progressed, that humanity slowly faded.

He began to feel less like a person and more like someone driven entirely by the system. Even in important emotional moments...with his mother, friends, or people around him...there was a noticeable lack of depth. It started to feel like he was just surviving, not living.

The pacing didn’t help either. Acting scenes were stretched over multiple chapters, while the emotional aftermath and character interactions were often rushed or skipped. Because of that, relationships felt shallow, even though the side characters themselves were well written.

The overused misunderstanding trope also comes in, where people mistake his need for tragic roles as an emotional disorder, which further typecasts him into the niche. I kind of wish author made the system more open-ended... to derive intense emotional energy from people rather than "heart break". That would've allowed him to act in a wider variety of roles.

I still think it’s a well-written and unique story, and I appreciate the tone and concept a lot. But it also left me with a lingering feeling that somewhere along the way, the MC lost what made him feel human.

Main drawback I found is...its system driven...like he is forced to do stuff in later arcs...so readers be warned of this type of genre.

    — Daoist Inkdrunkwanderer,
    The system gained points.
    The man lost them.

Also a significant portion of the recent plot seems to rely on a misunderstanding of method acting and mental health. This idea....that actors can’t separate themselves from their roles...has long been debunked by professionals. It becomes frustrating when even experienced characters in the story treat it as a real issue, using it to drive misunderstandings and plot developments that feel forced.

      Original rating I gave: 4/5
After reading the latest arcs: 3.678920971730288378192e?!>"!:#E>!?
Future arcs: No idea. It is still ongoing.

Don’t forget the authors constant near-sightedness with multiple plot lines that were suggested but never went through on like the Sea King halo
      before chapter 230 and how
      the characters talk about how
It’s like a shitty copy of a Korean Urban Novel just writing down everything that appears “simply cause it works” and not understand how it works or writing unique plotlines it’s a truly half-assed novel and it immensely disappointed me

I did notice that the concept of the MC is that he his being driven by the system in his bid to survive. He is also portrayed as being so involved in his roles as having a hard time cutting out time to be himself and not in a role. The concept being that he is diving much deeper than is normally healthy into a role, especially a tragic role, just to increase is own lifespan. The MC also doesn't loose much of the lifespan urgency even after he has multiple years built up and he finds it fairly easy to build up time.

It reads at this point as if the mix of his roles and his urgency and drive to shatter girl's hearts for system benefits, has created inside him a psychotic type mentality.

This has both "No romance" and "Romantic subplot" tags. Does that mean there is romance ir not??? Or is it that there is romance but mc isn't part of it? constraint
