Adam is no one special. He’s just an accountant standing in line at a bakery one early Saturday morning, because his craving for Jameson’s croissants finally broke him.

Unfortunately, fate has other plans for him, as the black cubes show up before he can get his pastries.

The cubes are the heralds and guides of the Trials of Defiance. They’ve decided that Adam, along with every other able-bodied human adult, is to become a Player in their game.

Humanity’s future is at stake and it’s all but inevitable that Adam is going to die.

After all, he’s no one special.

Despite it all, he overcomes the first Stage. He attains some measure of power and then discovers a way to kill the black cube following him around.

The only problem is that killing the cube takes him down with it.

Oh, and it also gives him the power to go back in time when he dies.

What to expect:

- Weak-to-strong protagonist
- Clear progression
- Roguelite-inspired GameLit (meta upgrades, etc.)
- The existential horror inherent to time-travelling
- Huge build variety (Relics, Weapon Types, Divine Boons, etc.)
- Meta upgrades and recurring characters

Not a review but a note for any future readers, the author has stated that all Upgrade and Relic rewards are completely randomized, so if you ever think one is contrived, it isn't. As for classes, I'm not sure if those are random, but they also get chosen far less often so It's not noticeable if they are. Also, just a note for myself, I've noticed I give way overinflated ratings on ranobes because of all the people who give terrible ratings for dumb reasons. (see Nohidden below)

    Stupid and insufferable mc.
Complains about everything, can't act quick, makes absolute dumbass choices that barely come out as correct ones only because the author said so.

2/10, genuinely could not get past 10 chapters for the first time.

Didn't even get past 10 chapters and complains about the MC not being decisive and smart. Are webnovel readers f#cking stupid or something? Is there some primal instinct in their brain that requires them to be pissed at any novel where the MC isn't immediately a perfectly rational genius? Like he just f#cking started man, give him a break.

Read until chapter 168 and the novel isn’t for me.

The premise itself it pretty good and was executed fairly well as for time stuff goes as someone else mentioned.

However the writing style truly makes it difficult to enjoy. The way the author writes you would assume he thinks more words means better writing.

Every single character introduction, action, fight, etc are basically giant chunks of text. Just by splitting up them up into smaller sentences with more space would help the novel out.

Along with that the author tends to over detail everything to the point you have no room to truly imagine it and let it flow. I usually enjoy such detail but when it happens multiple times throughout the chapter for the smallest things it starts getting to me.

The character interactions as someone mention are kinda bland and weak compared to other novels I have read. Feel robotic at times as if they are acting. It’s as if someone was trying to replicate real conversations without ever having experienced one themselves.

Also the plot. Multiple times it felt like the author forcefully pushed it to go a certain direction to meet a goal. He has Point A and Point B but he doesn’t know how Point A should lead into Point B and so you have the story going good and flowing nice and then boom it changes into something else.

The novel would be a C+ for me. I would like to rate it higher as it could be a B in my eyes but I just can’t.

Each chapter has over 3000 words (perhaps not all but most definitely has more than 3k cause I'm progressing the chapter at crawling speed than I'm used to).
So the 200 chaps is closer to 400-500 chaps of normal novels.
I'm glad the loop has a different flavor to the one I'm used to. That added extra randomness to it instead of just laser focus to his own betterment. There's enough other characters influence to the story.
It's definitely a good read. Part of the reason i like ranobes new update system, they provide some good pulls most of the time.

If u like time loops I'd suggest giving it a try, there's a lot of features to explore to connect the whole piece. It's not like The Perfect Run or that hellish cultivation time loop. Plus it's not even applicable, cause his "loop" doesn't show the same options or "situations" (it's like starting a new game jn slay the spire but ur starting cards and "maps" are different, but as u play more u gets better thus increasing the odds of surviving longer)

There's a reason why i quote those situations and maps, u'll understand.

It gets good if you power through the first 20-30 chaps as mc developes relationships with other players and other loopers starts working towards a goal . It player hub area and the tavern is very dark soulsey.
. Its a good read if you can skim the first few chapters.
