Chapter 52: So Why Is There a Monster in My Room? |
Vivian felt like her entire world had collapsed.
How was this Holy Water actually real? And even more ridiculous, there really was some evil creature hiding inside her room!
Of course, what Vivian found hardest to accept was that she had actually discovered it herself.
At this moment, Vivian felt as though she had encountered a murderer lurking in the shadows.
That murderer had been waiting for the right moment to strike at her.
But before that happened, she should have been safe. In other words, if she could discover clues in the room during that period, pretend nothing was wrong, and find a chance to escape, then she could survive.
Yet the result was that the moment she opened the wardrobe door, she came face-to-face with the murderer.
Was it because she was too unlucky? Or because the murderer had hidden badly?
Vivian didn’t know.
Subconsciously, she swallowed.
Perhaps because she was frightened, Vivian unexpectedly threw the entire bottle of Holy Water over.
“Zzzla...”
The sound rang out, accompanied by the monster’s ear-piercing screech, while large amounts of black smoke rose into the air.
A pungent stench, like something rotting, rushed straight into her nose as the invisible monster slowly revealed itself.
It was a crawling monster with a long, thin body, grayish-white skin, twisted limbs, razor-sharp claws, and murky dark-yellow eyes. Its body was slick and wet, with mucus dripping from it.
Vivian subconsciously swallowed again.
She was practically on the verge of tears.
Lilith, you scammer! Why did you actually buy the real thing?!
And wasn’t this supposed to be an apartment for Silvermoon City’s nobles? Wasn’t it supposed to have the best security?
Then why were monsters sneaking in every other day?!
Just as Vivian was mentally falling apart, Lilith reacted quickly as well.
The instant the monster appeared, she stepped backward and hid behind Vivian, pushing Vivian protectively to the front.
Lilith’s maneuver caused Vivian to blank out for a moment.
“An opening!”
A hoarse voice came from the monster’s mouth.
Immediately afterward, the monster leapt toward Vivian.
At this distance, Vivian had no time to react at all.
“I’m dead!”
However, at that moment—
“Gugu!”
The Candy Bear beside them jumped toward the charging monster and slammed into it.
“Gugu!”
Along with the bear’s cry, the Candy Bear was sent flying backward.
But thanks to that opportunity, Vivian and Lilith barely managed to dodge the monster’s attack.
Vivian hurriedly ran over to the Candy Bear that had been knocked away.
“Candy, are you okay?” Vivian asked worriedly.
“Annoying!”
After failing its strike, the monster let out another hoarse growl, then stared fixedly at the two girls and the bear once more.
“Die!”
Before the monster could launch another attack—
“Gugu!”
The little bear let out an angry roar.
Immediately afterward, the bear’s body rapidly expanded. The originally one-meter-tall little bear instantly swelled to over three meters tall, directly pressing against the ceiling.
Its cute, innocent eyes became sharp and fierce, faint red light glowing within them. Claws grew from the plush bear’s paws, and the entire bear’s aura underwent a complete transformation.
“(╬◣д◢) GUGU!!”
A deep growl emerged from its mouth full of sharp fangs.
“Can...dy?” Vivian stared at the Candy Bear in shock.
And then...
“BOOM!”
Accompanied by a deafening explosion-like impact, the giant bear slammed one claw downward.
Before the monster could even react, it was smashed straight into the floor so hard that it was practically embedded inside.
The monster beneath the giant paw only twitched symbolically a few times before going completely still.
The Candy Bear’s sudden transformation left both Vivian and Lilith dumbfounded.
Recalling the skill description she had seen before, Vivian’s mouth twitched.
It is every child’s best companion. The adorable little bear can happily play together with children...
“Heh... What kind of sane person would let a child play with this thing? One play session and the child wouldn’t even make a sound anymore.”
But just as Vivian thought the danger had passed, the little bear suddenly turned its gaze toward the bathroom in the distance.
“There’s more?”
Vivian asked uncertainly.
“Gugu...”
Under the girls’ watchful eyes, the bear’s body rapidly shrank, returning to its previous cute appearance.
The little bear somehow pulled out a candy wrapped in packaging decorated with a little bear pattern.
“That’s candy?”
Lilith looked confused about why the bear had taken out candy.
But very quickly, she learned the reason.
The little bear tossed the candy toward the bathroom.
Realizing things were about to go very wrong, Vivian immediately grabbed Lilith and dove behind the bed without another word.
“BOOM!”
A massive explosion rang out.
When Vivian and Lilith cautiously poked their heads out from behind the bed, Vivian’s breathing stopped at the sight before her.
The entire room had become a complete disaster zone.
In the direction of the bathroom, they could vaguely see pieces of the monster’s corpse blown everywhere.
The walls had completely collapsed, the surroundings were charred black, flames still burned in certain places, and a massive hole had already been blasted through the ceiling.
Seeing the scene before her, Vivian felt her vision darken.
How much was this going to cost to compensate?!
This time, Vivian was truly panicking.
Meanwhile, after seeing the destruction before her, Lilith immediately turned her gaze toward the little bear.
Subconsciously swallowing, she said, “So Vivian... are all the things around you this dangerous...?”
“Th-that, Lilith... how much do you think this is going to cost...” Compared to everything else, this was what Vivian cared about the most right now.
Hearing this, Lilith froze for a moment.
Then she also noticed the devastation around them.
Looking at the worried Vivian beside her, Lilith patted her chest confidently.
“Vivian, don’t worry.”
“Just leave this matter to me later!”
......
Meanwhile, somewhere within Silvermoon City.
In a place resembling a basement, torches were wedged into cracks in the walls, their dim yellow flames flickering unsteadily.
The surroundings were damp stone walls covered in dark green moss.
The air was filled with a pungent smell of blood.
At the center stood a skinning rack, while broken and scattered white bones were piled in the corners.
Not far away, thick iron chains locked several iron cages, inside of which were imprisoned girls dressed in rags, their eyes vacant and their bodies covered in wounds.
The old wooden door opened with a creaking “Creak—”.
Connor, whose expression looked terrible, walked in together with the butler.
The two of them had long since removed the disguises they wore outside.
“So can you tell me what exactly happened?” Butler Aaron’s expression was so gloomy it seemed as though water could drip from it.
“Why did you send an Infiltrator to deal with Vivian? Don’t you know those monsters are only suitable for reconnaissance?”
Aaron felt like he had completely had enough of this self-righteous idiot.
