Chapter 956: Chaos Dream Realm |
[It was already decided that the inheritor would be sent to the Chaos Dream Realm the moment I had to step in because after I vanish, you won’t be able to go there. I hadn’t thought that, however, you would encounter a sure-death calamity when you have just entered the Five Star realm, though I have to accept that you are not at fault here.]
The hazy figure paused before continuing, [Because you are still too weak, you can’t endure the forceful activation of your bloodline at full power. If you were at least an Emperor Mage, you would have noticed that your body and spirit are being destroyed bit by bit even as we speak. And the only reason this process is so slow is because I have used my remaining energy to slow down your destruction.]
After saying this, the hazy figure paused again and stared at him. When it didn’t see any fear, it seemed to nod in satisfaction and continued, [Now, I’ll be sending you, or more precisely, your soul into the Chaos Dream Realm. When you arrive there, you’ll know what you need to do. Remember, the Chaos Dream Realm is extremely dangerous but for some people, the danger is very good.]
As it finished speaking, Max noticed the hazy figure was becoming hazier and more transparent rapidly. At the same time, he felt a forceful tug deep within him.
His soul was being pulled out. He realized.
Suddenly, he found his vision darkening but before he completely lost his senses, he heard the figure’s final words.
[Remember, you have just a year to do what you need to do. If you don’t succeed in the given time and return, you’ll die. Also, rest assured... this place won’t be... harmed for the next one year.]
Zoop!
Above Max’s head, space rippled faintly before everything returned to normal.
...
Chaos Dream Realm.
This was a highly mysterious place. Even the most top powers of the universe couldn’t say confidently that they knew where it was—because it didn’t have a fixed location and was constantly shifting through the spatial folds—how it came into existence and what it really was.
Apart from this, another one of the biggest reasons it was so mysterious was because no living being could enter it even if they managed to find it, unless they were in their soul or spirit form.
However, with the exception of a handful of races, others, no matter how strong they became, remained very weak in their soul forms. Not to mansion the extremely turbulent realm barrier of the Chaos Dream Realm, even weaker cultivators could kill or deal lethal damage to them.
Moreover, even if they entered this realm, the chances of them coming back alive were less than one in millions.
Despite all the apparent negative points, all races throughout the universe were constantly trying to locate and enter it.
Thanks to this, even if it was extremely hard to find, one could find people in its vicinity at all times.
Similarly, there were many people near its realm barrier today too. As they stood in the void, they radiated extremely powerful presences. Most of them were in groups and all were from different races. The powerful ones were trying to penetrate the realm barrier to allow their weaker members to enter.
Throughout millions of years of its existence, people have tested the realm barrier and found out that the stronger someone’s cultivation was, the higher the chances of them perishing while entering.
Since the stronger ones were more valuable, the races started to send the less powerful ones, their juniors, though the weakest of them were way stronger than the strongest person Max had ever met in his life.
"Ahhhhh—!"
Suddenly a terrified scream was transmitted in the void before it was abruptly cut off—a group, that looked to be from the Red-Scaled Rhino Race, had tried to send one of their juniors and like most, his soul was shredded into pieces by the strange spatial turbulence of the realm barrier.
"Tch! These guys are really stupid. Their souls are among the weakest but they still keep sending their members to their deaths." A twenty-meters large insect, resembling a cockroach, sneered disdainfully. It was from the Keaton Race, a race notorious for their extreme survivability.
"Don’t mock them, Sirius. They have no choice but to try their luck. Their only living Ancestor-level figure is trapped inside the Chaos Dream Realm. If they can’t free him, their race would go extinct in a few thousand years or less." A hundred-meters large Keatonian sighed.
"Sirius isn’t wrong, Elder. They are really a bunch of idiots. Despite knowing those humanoids are being hunted down, they dared to shelter them. If they were a bit smart, they would’ve kept their distance from them even if they didn’t actively hunt them. Then their situation wouldn’t have been so grim." Another Keatonian, as large as the one named Sirius, remarked, its voice feminine.
The elder Keatonian didn’t say anything in response, clearly feeling this was true.
"By the way Elder, why are those humanoids being hunted down? How did those weak things offend the Infernal Devils that have been hunting them for tens of billions of years now?" Sirius curiously asked in a low voice.
Keatonian Elder’s expression turned grim as it looked around. When it saw no one seemed to have heard them, it relaxed, then rebuked Sirius, "Haven’t your elders told you not to discuss anything related to the Infernal Devils in public?"
Sirius shrunk its head back and hurriedly apologized, "I’m sorry, Elder. It’s just that I have always been curious about it and since I’m about to attempt entering the barrier and would most likely end up dying, I wanted to sate my curiosity."
The look in Keatonian Elder’s eyes softened when it heard this. Then, in a low voice, it said, "I don’t know about the origin of their enmity, but I have heard the rumours that it had to do something with one of the humanoid races, the human race."
"What?!" A few of the ’younger Keatonians’ exclaimed in disbelief while the rest looked confused because they hadn’t heard of this human race.
"What is it?" a younger keatonian asked, looking at the only female in their group.
"You haven’t heard about this race because it has never appeared in our sector for a very long time, but according to the records, it ranks among the last of million cosmic races. Such a weak race, how could it have offended the Infernal Devils?" The female Keatonian explained.
Right then, the Keatonian Elder, Sirius and a few others’ eyes flashed with surprise and they stared in her direction, making her frown and asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Look behind you." Sirius said, looking behind her, an odd look in his eyes.
The female Keatonian turned around and she immediately saw a translucent white orb, less than the size of a speck of dust slowly floating toward the realm barrier not far from her. Her eyes narrowed in surprise and she retreated.
"How did it appear?" she asked, then she noticed something and her gaze also became odd, "Isn’t that... a human’s soul?"
How coincidental was it that a human soul had appeared near them just when they were talking about a human?
"Let’s capture it. We can gift it to Dark Silence and get some discount on our future deals." Her eyes gleamed with excitement as she raised her slender, spiked limb and stabbed toward the soul.
Swoosh!
