Chapter 955: Attempted Assassination by a Monarch and Rescue |
After returning to the Beast Emperor Hall, Sanya flew over to the Violet Peak.
Weng!
The anti-flight formation was activated and exerted pressure on her but Sanya acted as if she didn’t feel anything and flew to the top before landing before the Grand Elder Rowan’s abode.
She didn’t say anything and there was no need to as he must have already noticed her arrival given the ’commotion’ she caused.
As expected, just a moment later, Grand Elder Rowan walked out.
"How did it go?" He asked.
"Just as we expected. Monarch Xuno appeared and he really wanted to attack me but because he was worried his Emperors would become casualties, he held back. Also, that bitch Bassel and that old umbra guy were there too but they were there to stop Monarch Xuno in case he attacked me." Sanya reported.
"I see." Grand Elder nodded with a thoughtful look on his face.
"So what now? Do I continue provoking them?" Sanya asked when she couldn’t glean anything from his expression.
Mid-speech, his brows suddenly furrowed and his Divine Sense spread out at full force, covering every nook and cranny of the Violent Peak mountain, however, he found nothing out of place which made him frown even more.
"What is it, Grand Elder?" Sanya asked.
"I sensed a minor spatial disturbance just now. Someone seems to have tried to enter the Violet Peak or maybe they have already entered. However... I can’t find anything wrong." Grand Elder Rowan said.
Sanya furrowed her brows, "Who would dare to infiltrate the Violet Peak and for what reason?"
Suddenly, Grand Elder Rowan’s eyes flashed and he disappeared from the place, appearing before Max’s cave abode.
Nothing seemed out of place here—Dan was dozing off in a chair in front of the entrance which was blocked with the restrictive formations.
Shua!
Sanya appeared beside him and asked, her eyes flashing, "You think they were targeting that little fellow?"
Grand Elder Rowan didn’t respond, instead, he took a step and entered the cave with ease, making the formations appear ineffective. Sanya followed him and immediately, her pupils constricted when she saw the scene inside.
"This... How?!" She mumbled, not able to articulate properly because what she was seeing should be impossible.
It was not just her, Grand Elder Rowan, a mighty Mid-Stage Monarch, was feeling the same because next to Max, who was sitting cross-legged, was the reason for their shock and disbelief—-a dried up corpse, the one they recognised all too well.
"How could he die here so inexplicably?" Sanya asked Grand Elder Rowan, hoping he would give her some explanation but Grand Elder Rowan didn’t say anything and just stared at the corpse and Max.
Suddenly, he noticed something and his Divine Sense flared, covering Max completely.
"What is it, Master?" Sanya asked, also realising that there was something odd about Max.
"It’s very strange." Grand Elder Rowan muttered, "His body is disintegrating but the rate is so slow that even I couldn’t notice it at a glance. What’s more surprising is that I can’t figure out the reason behind it."
"This bastard must have done something to him." Sanya spat at the corpse, but she wasn’t feeling much anger, in fact, she was really happy at the moment.
There were two reasons behind this: first, she wasn’t close enough with Max to feel sad for him and second, the person she hated the most had died and was lying beneath her feet.
"I don’t know." Grand Elder Rowan said, deep in thought.
Sanya snapped back to her senses after noticing his solemn expression. Thinking he was worried for Max and it made sense since he seemed to have high hopes for him, she asked, "Can’t you help him, Master?"
In her eyes, nothing was too difficult for her master, so he should have a way to help Max.
Grand Elder Rowan sighed and shook his head, a hint of helplessness in his eyes, "I can’t. Whatever is happening to him is far beyond my level. I suspect even the Venerable Master can’t help him."
Sanya fell silent and took another look at Max. This little guy wasn’t an ordinary person at all. Otherwise how could he have died next to him?
"Maybe he will survive this calamity." she murmured.
"Maybe..." Grand Elder Rowan nodded, they then walked out and he laid down another formation in front of the cave.
Their movements woke Dan up.
When he saw Grand Elder and Sanya, he jumped off the chair and hurriedly bowed to them, "G-Greetings, Grand Elder and Elder BloodFlower."
Grand Elder Rowan nodded and said, "No one is allowed to come near this cave abode from this moment onwards unless they have my permission."
Dan instinctively looked at the cave, his eyes flickering in thought. Then he bowed respectfully, "This disciple understands, Grand Elder."
...
A short while earlier...
Max was completely immersed in absorbing the Thunder Mana from the Thunder Essence Stone. As he absorbed more and more of it and poured it into the Thunder Energy Traces, they thrummed with joy, rapidly recovering and becoming stronger.
Just as he exhausted the first Thunder Essence Stone and began using the second one, a figure silently materialized next to him.
He didn’t notice anything and gleefully continued the absorption.
The figure was covered in radiant waves undulating mana and aura, making them impossible to identify.
They stared at Max for a moment in silence, then reached out with their hand towards his head.
Right then, deep within Max’s bloodline source space, the Lust Overlord Bloodline rumbled, as if arousing from deep sleep. If someone could see inside him, they would see a hazy figure slowly materializing.
Just as the figure’s hand was about to touch Max’s head, deep pink-red energy surged out of him.
The figure was taken aback but then they snorted and released a wave of energy to destroy it.
But to their shock, as both energies collided, the pinkish-red energy swallowed their energy and before the figure could react, it engulfed them.
When his bloodline energy stirred, he had awoken from his meditation and saw a figure right in front of him.
At first he couldn’t see who it was but as his bloodline energy, which was countless times more powerful at this moment for some reason, covered them, their radiant cloaked shattered and he saw the person beneath it.
"Lord Grimheart!" His pupils constricted and his heart skipped a beat.
If not for his bloodline sensing the threat and activating on its own, he would have died now and this thought scared him.
"What kind of energy is this?!" Lord Grimheart shirked, trying to fend off the Bloodline Energy but failed to do so. Just a moment later, he was completely engulfed in it.
Then, a moment later, everything fell silent and the bloodline energy retreated, slowly taking a humanoid shape with no features and limbs. Meanwhile, a mummified corpse of Lord Grimheart fell to the ground.
Max ignored the corpse and stared at the figure, his mind whirling with thoughts.
[Little guy, I’m a remnant piece of will left in the bloodline you inherited. I was left in it to safeguard your life when needed and give you a message before I disperse.] The hazy figure didn’t speak, nor used Divine Sense or Bloodline Sense, but resonated with his bloodline and these words appeared in his mind.
Max held his breath, a bad premonition taking root in his heart.
