Chapter 940: If It’s Supposed To Happen, It Will Happen |
"Was he speaking the truth?" he asked her.
Ryuna smiled, "Since you didn’t bother to ask me earlier, you already know the answer."
Max pursed his lips, feeling he was too ignorant. But it couldn’t be helped. He was just a newbie, after all, not an experienced person.
’Wait. If they were defective products, chances are that Foundation Healing Pill was also defective.’ his eyes lit up at the thought.
Just to confirm, he asked Ryuna, "What’s the average price of proper Low-Grade Tier 5 pills?"
"Average should be 40-50 Merits. The Spirit Replenishment Pills are among the least expensive ones in the Talisman Hall." she answered before immediately adding,
"But don’t go thinking that you can buy the Spirit Talisman pills at the same price outside. They are cheaper in the Talisman Hall because the Hall Master is providing them at a lower price since every Talisman Master needs them. It’s another benefit of being a member of the Talisman Hall."
"I see." nodded Max in understanding, feeling better because this all but confirmed that that Foundation Healing Pill was a defective one.
"Oh right. Try not to take any more of those defective pills. Though this reminder is superfluous since you will have more than enough Merits to buy good ones." she chuckled, then added, "Also, good job back there. You handled those bastards well. Surprised me."
"Nuh-uh." she shook her head, "I had thought you would need me to step up."
"Well, you don’t know me enough then." he chuckled, then noticed Ryuna frowning, a faint blush on her cheeks.
’Don’t tell me just this bit is enough to embarrass her?’ he thought, then suddenly realized that his Charm was acting up.
’Oh shoot.’ he exclaimed and quickly reined it in.
"It was really you?" Ryuna stared at him in disbelief, then her expression turned cold. "I thought you were a decent guy, but you turned to be a disgusting—"
"Hey, stop, stop! I didn’t do that on purpose." he quickly interrupted her. After hesitating briefly and deciding that he didn’t want her to misunderstand and stop being his friend, he transmitted, [You have already realized that I’m... unwell, haven’t you?]
Ryuna narrowed her eyes, then nodded.
Max sighed in relief seeing she was willing to listen.
[You must have heard how that Emperor had interfered in my battle against Isolde and attacked me, right?] he transmitted,
[While Elder Blood Flower prevented my death, I ended up injured... My Mana Core is falling apart. I can’t use mana and this injury has affected my Bloodline too which is quite unique in the fact that it increases my charm. I usually keep it suppressed so it won’t affect anyone, but because of this injury, it sometimes goes out of control—this I just realized, otherwise I would have been more mindful in keeping it suppressed.]
Ryuna stared at him in silence, an unreadable look on her face.
Then, she nodded, [I understand.] and her expression returned to normal which made Max sigh in relief.
Then he paused.
’Don’t tell me I’m attracted to her?’ he thought and realized it was right. Immediately, his expression fell as shame and guilt washed over him as he remembered Rima.
"What’s wrong?" asked Ryuna seeing his expression change.
Hu!
He took a deep breath, dispelling the conflicting thoughts and shook his head, "Nothing."
A short while later, they parted ways.
Max returned to the Violet Peak and entered his cave where he sat in meditation for a few hours. He usually doesn’t need this much time to clear his mind, but today several thoughts were flashing in his mind.
In the end, he let out a sigh and opened his eyes.
’I won’t go out of my way to seduce her. If it’s meant to happen, it will.’ he decided.
He, of course, felt guilty for Rima, but he really needed someone who could help him and get Nascent Energy. It was, after all, the only thing that he knew could heal the injuries on his Dantian, and possibly restore Rima’s.
He then stopped thinking about it, closed his eyes again and slowly tapped onto the Thunder Law.
Slowly, he began feeling the presence of Thunder Mana in the cave. Then, carefully, he locked onto it with his Bloodline Sense and started pulling it into his body.
After a while, he stopped because while he was indeed able to absorb the ambient Thunder Mana, the efficiency was too low.
If there was someone else in his place, they would have either given up on absorbing the Thunder Mana or would have continued to absorb what tiny amount they could absorb.
However, it was Max. He didn’t choose either of the options and instead connected with the Thunder Energy Traces in his bloodline.
For half an hour, nothing happened but then...
Buzz!
The Traces vibrated slightly. In that instant, the ambient Thunder Mana became a lot more clearer to his senses. Not only that, more of it was rushing into the cave like iron towards a powerful magnet.
Max didn’t let the opportunity go and immediately covered all the Thunder Mana with his Bloodline Sense and devoured it in large gulps.
When the Thunder Traces fell silent a moment later, he had absorbed and replenished half the Thunder Mana he had exhausted yesterday to create those ten Thunder Talismans.
His lips curved upward in an ecstatic grin.
He was aware that without special methods, which were very rare and difficult to master or use, or if one wasn’t in an environment where elemental manas were dense enough—like the mountain he where he comprehended the Thunder Law or the Volcano—it was extremely difficult for one to absorb the elemental mana from the ambient mana since all the elements were tangled together and weren’t present in high enough amounts.
But he could. Now, he would be able to save a lot of money he would have otherwise needed to spend to recover the elemental mana.
However, this didn’t come without any cost... It exhausted a lot of mental energy. In just an instant, he had burned over 70% of his mental energy.
