Chapter 613: Medusa’s Deal |
Ivrecia–Twilight, the most outstanding natural witch of Florence, governed the cycle of the four seasons. She was the wielder of the Law of Nature and Life, and also the savior who sacrificed herself during the God War to save the Material Plane…
Yet such a seemingly perfect person, in Medusa’s words, was a human witch who was rude, extremely vain, and very prone to holding grudges.
And it was precisely these very human flaws that made the image of Ivrecia–Twilight in Janna’s mind become more vivid. At the same time, it allowed Janna to become even more certain that she was not Ivrecia–Twilight.
Especially when Janna heard Medusa state with absolute certainty that she was definitely not Ivrecia–Twilight, not only did Janna feel no disappointment, but instead felt a sense of relief—as if a shackle deep within her heart had finally loosened.
However, as reason and logic returned, even if Janna did not wish to admit it, the moment she chose to enjoy the benefits brought by the Daily Quest System, the threads of fate had already tightly bound her to Ivrecia–Twilight.
“Every gift bestowed by fate has already been secretly marked with a price. Whether I can ultimately afford that price depends on whether I’ve made sufficient preparations…”
Shua—
Just as Janna was still observing the state of the demon god Medusa, her vision suddenly went dark. When she opened her eyes again, she found that the scene before her had returned to the original snow-covered landscape.
“Did she… let me go?”
“Perhaps… she never paid attention to me at all.”
With that thought, Janna’s gaze shifted back to the Flesh Meteor in front of her.
Although she did not know whether the Medusa statue she had just seen in her spiritual vision was real or not, for safety’s sake, she decided to change the storage location of the Flesh Meteor.
After all, the demon god Medusa was infamous, and her temperament was unpredictable. Even though Janna could sense Medusa’s special feelings toward Ivrecia–Twilight from her words, she still did not want to gamble.
“I’m sorry, Ines. It looks like we need to find another place…”
“Do you want to make a deal with me?”
Just as Janna was about to instruct the Frost Guardian to search for a new storage site, Medusa’s low, hoarse, and magnetically charming voice once again echoed in her ears.
“This is… Medusa’s voice?”
Janna had originally thought that after determining she was not Ivrecia–Twilight, Medusa would simply ignore her. Yet after forcing her out of the Spirit Traverse state, Medusa had now unexpectedly proposed a deal.
“You may not be her, but judging from the magical aura emanating from you, you should be her successor. Therefore, I wish to make a deal with you.”
“Ee-ee?”
“Shh—”
The Frost Guardian Ines, who had been confused as to why Janna suddenly stopped speaking, saw her make a silencing gesture. Then Janna raised her head as if talking to herself and said:
“Respected Lady Medusa, I am merely an ordinary wizard apprentice. I’m afraid I cannot shoulder any important task…”
“I say you can, then you can. Besides, this deal will follow your wizard principle of equivalent exchange. I will pay the reward in advance.”
Before Janna could finish, Medusa interrupted her directly, even invoking the wizard principle of equivalent exchange and promising to pay the reward beforehand.
However, upon hearing this, Janna did not immediately agree. Countless possibilities flashed through her mind, and after a moment, she continued respectfully:
“May I know what task you intend to entrust to me, so that I may understand it in advance…”
“No. Because I haven’t thought of it yet.”
Hearing this, Janna’s expression froze for a moment. She then used her Muscle Control talent to steady her face, preventing any inappropriate reaction from showing.
“Of course, I can guarantee that the task I entrust to you will be something you are capable of accomplishing, and it will not involve any life-threatening danger.”
At this point, Janna understood that she could not continue hesitating.
After all, the one before her was a demon god whose strength rivaled that of the Outer Gods. Yet when facing her—a mere apprentice who had not even advanced to a formal wizard—Medusa had not resorted to force. Instead, she offered reasonable terms, which showed considerable sincerity.
“Alright, I accept.”
Having made up her mind, Janna no longer hesitated and agreed decisively.
“Very good. Once I think of the task I wish to entrust to you, I will inform you… Before that, let us discuss the reward.”
Janna had originally thought Medusa would require her to sign some kind of binding contract in advance. However, she found that Medusa had no such intention. After hearing Janna’s verbal agreement, she immediately began discussing the reward.
Though surprised, Janna naturally did not bring it up herself.
“Within your soul, aside from the natural aura similar to Ivrecia, there is also the aura of the Spirit Realm. So, you are a summoning-type wizard?”
“Yes, Lady Medusa. I am indeed a summoning-type wizard apprentice. My Wizard Talent is Spirit Traverse.”
Janna was not surprised that Medusa could perceive her Spirit Traverse talent. Instead, she directly revealed it.
“Spirit Traverse? I’ve never heard of it. But I can sense from your soul that your talent is quite outstanding among humans… though compared to Ivrecia, it still falls far short.”
So she really had an S-level talent…
Already accustomed to Medusa frequently bringing up Ivrecia–Twilight, Janna, though not particularly interested in gossip, still carefully extracted information whenever she heard anything about her.
It was known that Janna’s talent was A-level. And anything surpassing A-level among Wizard Talents would naturally be S-level.
At present, across the entire wizard continent, the one known to possess an S-level talent was the guardian of Atlantis—the Third Tier Wizard who governed the Law of Catastrophe and Ocean, and who also bore the title Lord of the Ocean—Themis-Russell…
