Yoon Sung-il, a young man from South Korea, had just experienced the exhilarating joy of being discharged from mandatory military service. The next day, however, he awoke to a chilling reality.

“Lieutenant?”

He opened his eyes to find himself a soldier once again. Not just any soldier, but a Wehrmacht officer in nazi Germany during the Spanish Civil War.

The horrors of war unfolded before him. For his own sake, and for the sake of his people, he had to prevent the impending madness of World War II.

And to do that, he had to eliminate the nazis.

“My Germany doesn’t need nazis.” Collapse

Should try readimg even if just for 2 reasons:
-Seems interesting, even though climbing starting from...private(?) or whatever is the first military rank would've been even more interesting...maybe?
-Korean synopsis that isn't one sentence long oru2x

(Hope that it won't be "I destroyed evil, but from it's remains appeared one much more vile and disgusting" situation...or becoming one himself) 12

Very rare for a private to become a high ranking officer in Nazi Germany. And I assume the story requires him to become a high ranking officer.

In the Wehrmacht, the barrier between the enlisted ranks and the officer corps was extremely rigid, rooted in a long-standing Prussian military tradition that emphasized social class and formal academic training.

While the Nazi party liked to promote the idea of a "people's community" (Volksgemeinschaft) where anyone could rise to the top, the reality in the military was quite different.

To become an officer, a candidate typically needed the Abitur (a diploma from a German secondary school that prepares students for university). Most privates and non-commissioned officers (NCOs) did not have this level of education.

I'd take a step forward to say all authoritarian regimes limit upwards mobility.

To be fair though, Nazis were notably kind only to their own kind so if you want to go up just be the /ourguy/ and say the 'right' things. As said in the prior post, it was a hold over from the Prussian military and the German Empire. The Nazis wished they could have more Nazis in officer position and this requirement limited that. Because many old nobles made up the officer corps.

Even then it was an improvement, because before in the German Empire you had to be of noble birth to achieve officer rank. You can get a magical analogue to the culture of the Prussian military from Trenches, Guns, and Magic.

Today, even the most liberal of countries don't give you officer rank without a certain level of education or experience. You'd want some guy that can't get into uni to manage a platoon? And if you can manage a platoon why would you become a private?
