After arriving in a fantastical otherworld, Gauss acquires an adventurer’s handbook—one that allows him to grow stronger the more monsters he slays and catalogs. He originally thought he was about to embark on a classic heroic journey: slay dragons, vanquish demons, and save kingdoms.

Instead, he finds himself endlessly exterminating goblins—creatures that breed like pests and never seem to go extinct. As the goblin kill count and rewards on his monster compendium grow at an alarming rate, his face grows ever more helpless…

[You have slain 1,000 goblins! Intelligence +1, Strength +1, Constitution +1.]

[Title 『Goblin Butcher』 upgraded to 『Goblin Specialist』—you are now an expert in goblin extermination. Few know better than you how to kill goblins.]

“…”

[Title 『Goblin Specialist』 upgraded to 『Goblin Nemesis』—you are now the most terrifying oppressor in goblin history, a nightmare etched deep into their bloodline.]

[Current Effects:

Effect 1: Nemesis. Deals 50% additional damage against goblins.

Effect 2: Bloodthirst. Slaying goblins has a chance to randomly restore 10% of stamina.

Effect 3: Intimidation. You exert absolute pressure over goblins and their evolved kin, greatly weakening them in your presence.]

As the title keeps evolving on his status panel,

Gauss seriously wonders—

Is there any way to stop people from prefixing his legendary titles like “Dungeon Conqueror,” “Redscale Bane,” “Phase Hunter,” “Pale Monarch,” and “Scourge of Tiamat” with…

Goblin Slayer? Collapse

are we thinking of the same Overlord? The Ainz Oal Gown Overlord? the only similarities are that they use magic and they both are in a fantasy world

There are many similarities beyond that... the adventurer levels, their tags, the common monsters, and an overarching level system that govern their power system but the locals are mostly oblivious to. Of the many anime worlds i watched, the one that fit this novel the most, to me, was the world Nazarik was moved to. I'm not saying it's an overlord fanfic, it just feels like the world setting was inspired heavily by it.

I have to note for future readers that during MC's quest in chapter 56, the translator has made an error. MC isn't fighting goblins but kobolds. Goblinoids is the family group containing goblins. Kobolds and goblins aren't related at all. This is very important because shortly after those chapters, the author talks about the real goblins, but with the wrong translation, you might not be sure if he talks about kobolds or goblins.

If I had to guess, this translation group probably has an in-house AI translation tool. For some reason, the AI tool used the term goblinoids and goblins in place of kobolds. I doubt any human translator would make such a mistake. This is especially so when the kobolds are described to have a thin dragon bloodline and possessing reptilian heads.

Even Google Translate properly translates those chapters by saying kobolds and not goblins. Famous AI tools also wouldn't make such a rookie mistake. This is especially so for DeepSeek since it probably has extra training in translating Chinese text to English.

Nah, the pacing is great. I understand that if you are reading along with the updates that it would feel slow. However, looking at it from an overall pov, the pacing is great, neither too fast nor too slow.

    I couldn't get through it.
If you know what to pay attention to, you'll understand that the book is bad or will gradually go into obscurity.
    There are no details here.
A village is a village, there is no description of houses, people, surrounding nature, fields of food, nothing, it's just a village and that's the end of the description.
Even the conversation in battle is not logical and makes you feel ashamed of the book.

People are already complaining that it is too slow, and you are complaining that the author is going too fast?

In my personal opinion, the world-building is nuanced enough. There is no point in info-dumping everything. Especially when things like those villages won't be visited again in the future. The author's description of the world is already nuanced enough.

I might even add that the author has thought through things far better than most fantasy authors. A good example would be the whole logistics aspect of adventurers. In his first quest, Gauss was noted to be extremely tired from carrying his spoils from the goblins. Later, when he temporarily joins an elite team, they utilize a cart to carry their luggage and occasionally sit on it during travel to rest. They are also described as not wearing their armor 24/7 because it is tiring. During travel time, they keep their armor on the cart. The author also describes how adventurers must carefully calculate the rewards of the quest and the potential costs in repairs and consumables if they want to make a profit.

So your claim that there isn't proper world-building is straight up false. The only people who would think that either skimmed the chapters or simply lack the thinking skills to pick up the nuance among the author's descriptions of what is happening.

Lastly, you claim battles are illogical, but you actually offer no example. The battles have a good flow with no weird shenanigans happening. I might even say that the author's take on attributes is far more nuanced than most fantasy novels. I finally rejoice with an author properly displaying the intelligence attribute and how op it really is. At the same time, the agility attribute is finally portrayed properly. Movement speed shouldn't be tied to agility but to strength. People move faster due to their leg muscles and not because of their flexibility.

It's like reading a japanese fantasy manga where a lot of NPCs die in a dramatic way, and the MC becomes a typical Japanese person because of the NPC's death. But there's no drama here, it's easy to read like a daily life with a focus on something interesting in the future. but there are too few chapters to venture into this water.
