Four years before the New Calendar.

Less than five years remain before the descent of the Great Tomb of Nazarick.

Tang Zheng sat by the roadside gnawing on a piece of hard rye bread, eyes filled with confusion—and a trace of despair.

He had transmigrated into the world of the Undead King.

Alright, that part was fine.

The problem was, he’d transmigrated directly into the other world itself.

Thinking of how, four years later, the Tomb would destroy entire nations, he shivered. The future offered only two paths:

Either die in the aftermath…

Or survive and become a citizen of the Sorcerer Kingdom.

Or maybe…

Tang Zheng looked at the panel that appeared before him—

[Innate Ability: Player]

I think this is the best Overlord fanfic I've ever read.

The protagonist sees Nazarick and Ainz as enemies from the start. From his reading and experience with Overlord, he knows that Ainz will do anything for Nazarick and will never allow any threat to get out of control, even if he wanted to. His responsibility as the "Supreme" of Nazarick, along with the adoration of the NPCs, doesn't allow him to act in a "human" way.

So he has two options: fight or live in peace under the sorcerer's reign, hoping to survive peacefully as an ordinary human.

Upon awakening his innate ability [Player], he decides to fight.

Our protagonist is a planner. Basically, the entire story revolves around him creating plans, telling half-truths, manipulating the powers in the world, or strengthening himself.

He chooses the "Humans are superior" mentality, not because he fully believes it, but simply to "generate hope." He lives in fear of the day Ainz and Nazarick appear, which is why he always seems tense. It's as if he's walking on a glass floor; all his steps are cautious, and only occasionally does he "risk everything."

It's not that he's weak; on the contrary, at certain points he's much more powerful than most, but it's because he knows that when Ainz arrives, there can be no trace of him, only the traces he chooses to leave.

Even so, after Ainz's arrival, he knows that at most he can be a "guide." Why is that, even though he has advantages? Because Ainz has Nazarick. As the story unfolds, you realize more and more that Nazarick is simply absurd. The treasure alone, with its various world items, is already completely overpowered, not to mention the numerous level 100 NPCs. Our protagonist knows that Nazarick is a "higher dimension" than the world, which is why he becomes a planner and not someone who will confront them head-on.

So be prepared to see a protagonist who extensively explores the Overlord universe and changes the political geography of the story before the emergence of Ainz and Nazarick, all in order to benefit himself or hinder Nazarick.

There are provisional explanations for the disappearance of the previous [Players] (The 6 Gods and 8 Kings of Greed), and the author presents very interesting and logical theories, which captivated me as a fan.

I stopped at chapter 590 of the MTL, the last one released. Ainz and Nazarick appeared in chapter 560, so we are now beginning the most important arc of the work, and honestly, it's very good.

He's not a lecherous Japanese protagonist, he's not naive, he doesn't underestimate his enemies and is always planning. There's no harem either; what happens is that many of his important servants are women, but I found that irrelevant to the overall context. He doesn't even have intimate relationships with any of them (he doesn't have time for that). This isn't a romance-focused novel, but a survival one.

One of the novel's strengths is the various professions/classes the protagonist acquires. If you've read other comments, you know about his [Genius] class and that because of this, he has a very unique character build, possibly making him the strongest player of all.

    It's a must-read for any Overlord fan.

    5/5

First time reading an Overlord fanfic and I must say I feel like learned a lot more about the overlord word than with the books I read xDD I loved this from begginning to end. I even read the MTL translation and actually liked it more than the "normal" chapters. Those had some errors as well but overal the mtl kept them at a minimum in comparison.
Rn I'm waiting for chap 519 and Ainz is like 1.5 years away and there's still so much to do. Hope that the Theocracy is not annihilated in the meantime. Things are about to get hard for those that can't hide like our mc.

Just came back to say that Ainz has arrived and the plot has not been diminished one bit because of it. the author is taking the elements from cannon and weaving a pretty good new progression of events now that Ainz has a hidden player waiting for him with a ton of preparations made behind the scenes to counter him. It's litterally a several pronged/layered information war between the Kingdom, the Dragons, Ainz, MC, Crown, and Slane Theocracy's higher ups. Those below lv 55 dont even have the status to be part of the machinations and can only serve the purpose of pawns.

I am enjoying this novel very much from the job classes the mc is deducing and picking to the fights and the schemes. As a big fan of overlord I am dying for the mc to have a showdown with Ainz Ooal Gown

It's an okay fanfic, but the author is clearly new to writing fights. He writes turn based battles where the MC never goes all out and just puts himself in dangerous situations and underestimates opponents so he can say "now its my turn" for the 10th fight in a row

Unfortunately the fights in the original novel are similar to this, but I agree with you.

Even if a Chinese does not have a harem, he still has a harem... sigh The MC surrounds itself only with women.
Perhaps he is just cowardly and distrustful in order to bring men closer to him.

Good guy? that's a matter of prespective though, his undead class costantly supresses his emotions so everything he do is for the good of Nazarick and its its inhabitant, even looking for his friends is because they are part of the Nazarick as supreme one. You'd find he have little care of others, and never at the cost of Nazarick safety. If he see MC as dangerous, he'd try to control him or eliminate him imo. Not at the start but slowly that's the it'd go because he's not in control of his own emotion and choices.

YoHe would be considered a threat and killed. The Lich is under a mental manipulation that leaves him ruthless in decisions. All for Nazarick.

No because end of the day it’s either become a subordinate or die especially when the window of becoming allies with Ainz only exists when he first transmigrates into the world and the main character himself is quite prideful not willing to share living space with that old skeleton man

Not all players are equal, unfortunately for author, Ainz has a tomb and multiple world items making him very very powerful for the NEW World. Other guys who came before Ainz did bring world items with them but theyre still lacking in quantity compared to what Ainz got. So I would love to see how he comes over such huge disparity in power.

MC gets NPC specific classes like genius. This allows him to gain lvl's in all basic classes so he has a chance to get multiple end game classes compared to ainz his one end game class.

Some classes that were gender specific can get their requirement ignored.

Some non game related class lvl up possibilities that does not increase the overall level. Like taking in massive amount of energy of a specific type to lvl a class compared to just leveling up and assigning a point to it. This allows him to possibly get more end game classes later on.

Not really a spoiler because this is already shown in the first few chapters and it just adds to the excitement of reading the novel.

Read this on webnovel and it’s mid Ainz is probably not gonna show for a while but the main character himself is quite smart and knows how to prioritize gaining resources and doesn’t hide all the time so it’s quite enjoyable just don’t expect a skeleton overlord showing up for a long while
