irl almost all ants are female with only a select few being male with their only purpose being to mate which these queens don't need.

All the ants are female, except arguably Anthony. they don’t really have a gender because they are monsters, and I think male ants are generally only for breeding purposes (so no reason to exist in the dungeon). I’m pretty sure the mage Anthony meets in the silver city comments that Anthony is the only ant that has a male voice over a mind bridge.

Anthony is biologically female as all ants usually are, but he considers himself a male (since he was a male in his first life) and that's why his mental voice is masculine

This doesn't have a romance tag, but does it not have any romance at all? Like is the mc a virgin or does he have a lover too (and that its just that romance doesnt play a significant role hence the absence of a tag)?

I kinda like where they isnt much romance but it kinda feels bad if mc is virgin

No, there is no transformation of any kind and I absolutely love it like that.
There is only bigger and badder ant.

What does it matter what he looks like? The majority of the story focuses on the
              anyways.
A human transformation would just be misplaced in this story, not to mention that the system in this story just doesn't work like that.
It's nice to have a monster mc that actually stays that way for once. 24

He doesn't look like an ant. He is an ant.

That's what he was born as in the new world.

I'm not sure how he did it, but it's a pretty enjoyable read.

I haven't caught up in a while, but there are battles both big and small as well as character progression for both MC and others in the story.

I'm actually surprised you weren't curious enough to read the first few chapters.

I'm kinda apprehensive about reading it..... Like, if he is an ant, then he doesnt have hands, cant enjoy food etc ryt?

U know that Slime anime with a longass name ryt? In that he gets a human-looking body soon despite still being a slime. So I was expecting he can get some transformation from ant to human?

Well for one, I'm already reading more than one novel currently (cuz I get bored with one easily so I read more than one together), so I almost forgot abt this one

I was apprehensive of it too at first. But it turned out to be a lot of fun. It might be the same for you or maybe not. Try it out.

Do hope you find some time for this one. Chrysalis is a really good novel, and the interactions with other characters are really fun to watch, though it might take a while to appear.

In simple terms it is about an ant trying to make his family/colony thrife and a big part of that is him being in the for front. There is a system that handles evolutions and there is comedy. Aka kingdom building/weak to strong and comedy.

I think it's really lame when a novel starts the MC as a non-humanoid but quickly gives them a human form, completely defeating the purpose of a non-humanoid protagonist. You no longer get to read about the MC's experiences and struggles with adapting to a new form. At that point you may as well have the MC start as a human like most other isekais.

Ok I'll admit that's true. Many do do that and I also don't like it much. Even worse are the ones where you have a humanoid protagonist, but he's basically the same as a human, but with some different skin color or an extra horn etc, might as well have made him human.

Honestly wasn't expecting a reply so quickly to an old comment. Did you end up continuing to read Chrysalis? I'm curious on what your opinions are about it after all this time. I personally do still enjoy it but I tend to wait until arcs finish before reading since they do tend to go on and on.

But i didn't end up reading the novel. Or more like I stopped picking up new novels completely, as nowadays I'm not getting enough time.

Thats weird... isnt it more common that in ant colonies a female ant is the queen while all the males are workers? The queen gives birth while all the children are worker ants who provide for her to give birth for more ants.... Atleast thats how it generally is ryt?

Nope males are only seen like reproductive organ in an ant colony. they are weak and cant really contribute much for the colony, they only are smaller in size in contrast to female ants and also ineligible for work. They only come out once from colony to mate and after mating they swiftly die.

Thats an interesting thing they did in this novel huh... its almost the opposite except for the fact that, turning genders to opposite from real life would make it as [male ant king + female workers] but here they turned the male into a weakling only worth its reproductive organ. Must have been hard for mc at the start I presume considering he is a male ryt

This book's great, novel concept (especially when it started) pulled off really well, starting alone the MC builds a kingdom for his family (army!) where interactions are fun and meaningful. The power system is interesting and well paced. When I read it the previous two times it seemed to be heading in a good direction, and although it follows a fairly repetitive cycle, new opponents and levels to the world keep it engaging. Great novel 8.5/10
