Kenichi Yamada was a 35-year-old salaryman. As a hardcore game enthusiast, he was saddened by the modern trend towards casual games.

So, when a site claimed to be «for people who like to do things the hard way,» he just couldn’t resist. Thus, he was reincarnated into another world as Allen, playing on Hell Mode.

This is fantasy light novel about Allen’s journey as a summoner.

Reincarnated as a serf, he starts from nothing.

His journey begins with absolutely no knowledge of the world around him, just like those games he played 10, 20 years ago. Collapse

Just under halfway through the current chapters (at 54) and it's pretty good so far.
He spends a lot of time working out how things work, which is kinda refreshing given how generally there would be a system which would explain things. Instead he has to do trial and error and use his own deductions to figure things out.

The only kinda strange thing is the fact that in some of the earlier chapters he sometimes talks about him doing a speedrun. I know that when JP mentions speedruns they generally mean RTA runs, but it still doesn't really make sense here as it is in no way a speedrun. He chose a difficulty level that makes things like 100* more difficult for him and it takes years for him to level up his skills.
Maybe its just an issue with translation or some other difference in understanding.
Luckily it seems to have not been mentioned much at all as the story continues on and the quality is still pretty decent as of now.

Yeah, overall its a good novel, just a few cultural things that were lost in translation were an issue for me. However, the translator does their best to give context, so I really don't have many gripes with the novel. 4.5/5 for me

a harem tag but no romance tag, does this mean that he's going to be followed around by many beauties but won't get involved romantically? Typical JP sh*t.

Since he is a summoner I believe he could summon his own servants as if a master from the fate series but, I am just about to start reading

It's definitely different compared to the other JP isekai novels out there. The main character, while being good, is not a complete fluff. To me, that's the best thing about it because most JP isekai novels out there end up with the MC being rather...dumb. This MC is actually pretty smart and it shows how he tests thing out before coming up with his conclusions. He reminds me of Shiroe (aka Villan with glasses) from Log Horizon.

I just finished the first arc as of this post and so far I'm very much addicted to the story. I had been dropping most JP novels after 6 or 7 chapters until this gem.

This man may not be able to beat Ponpokona because he has just breached a little over half of what Ponpokona has achieved, and I mean that he is only 56.something there.

I almost want to like the comment to be contrarian. Though I'm not a fan of bowing to anybody, so I can't bring myself to do it =P.
