The planet Neire is cursed, and a malevolent corruption is spread throughout the lands.

Dark horrors reside around every corner, and safety is a concept of tales and legends. Trapped in a world where they are at the bottom of the natural food chain, humans have followed the trends of the lands, and done something unnatural.

Banding together, they hunted their hunters.

Weapons in hand, they faced living nightmares. Unable to wield aether, they used Eldrim cards to spread their dominion. In a world where death was their only birthright, they carved out an empire that was legend incarnate.

But while they fought cursed monsters outside, a more insidious monstrosity struck from within. Greed, deception, and war marked the end of the Valeriya Empire.

Hundreds of years later, Nero is born into a nation of warriors, in an age cracking beneath an unseen weight.
Whispers of a new order, undercurrents to seize power, and a desire to form a new empire have spread throughout the lands.

The world is ready for a change, but it might not be ready for Nero who was betrayed.

They messed with his brother, and now, they must face the consequences. Collapse

read until chapter 97 before i dropped. the power system seems interesting but progress is very slow until now atleast. the novel starts basically with the mc reaching cultivation stage 1 in the first chapter, and ch 97 he has 3% progress towards reaching lvl 2.

now im fairly certain theres gonna be some quick progression events soon, and he is capable of fighting above his level also, but the tempo certainly isnt very fast regardless.

you can get used to the dialogue, but it feels fairly cheesy, i wasnt a fan. you can get a feel for the way the characters talk in the first chapter, just know it stays that way.

the society they live in is also very unreasonable... all people are atleast stage 1, they reach it by the age of 14-17 or so, and many people train for higher levels, also a lot of people in the army since the country is governed by their military as the country constantly has to send people to the frontlines.

for some reason however, all the techniques are restricted...?? main character learns some technique that can help him a lot even at stage 1, given to him by his teacher, and he has to burn the papers after since its restricted information... and it wasnt even something crazy. just a basic method to better control his aether (mana), that it seems like most people who cultivated even a little bit would quickly reach access to. for a world where people constantly die and every student is encouraged to reach higher levels, its a bit unreasonable for all the info to be restricted.

Hmph… so the Yin–Yang Sect raises its banner here.

This Wanderer greets you...not as an invader, but as the Last Disciple of the Enchanted Lotus Pavilion, a sect long fallen because it refused to bow to false balance.

You preach Yin and Yang, yet I must ask:

If a man spreads vulgarity as scripture,
    peddles scams as cultivation manuals,
and sows hatred like demonic qi.....

is it balance to grant him mercy?
Or is it merely convenience dressed as virtue?

You call it compassion when you upvote all alike.
I call it watering poison and flowers from the same cup, then acting surprised when the garden rots.

    True balance is not blindness.
True Yin does not shelter corruption,
and true Yang does not shine upon filth indiscriminately.

If your sect believes morality and immorality deserve equal incense, then do not name it Yin–Yang.

Name it what it is: Indifference Dao,
where judgment is abandoned and responsibility dissolved.

This land was never claimed by decree. It is claimed by discernment.

Now tell me, Daoist of Balance (Overlord)—
when a demon smiles and a cultivator bleeds,
do you still clap for both and call it harmony?

The Eldrim Cards is one of those novels that reveals its nature slowly.... like an old formation you don’t notice until you’re already standing inside it. crown

This is not a novel that chases dopamine. It doesn’t sprint, it walks, and sometimes it deliberately stops to stare at its own world. For some readers, this is patience-testing. For others, this is exactly where the flavor lies.

The author’s hand is experienced.... unsurprising, given this is the same mind behind The Innkeeper. The prose is clean, controlled, and confident. There is no frantic edge-lording here, no hollow mystique for the sake of looking deep. When things are left unexplained, it’s less negligence and more a deliberate refusal to spoon-feed. Whether that feels like intrigue or irritation depends entirely on the reader’s temperament.

The worldbuilding is where the novel truly earns its keep. Culture, social hierarchy, historical scars — none of it feels decorative. People behave the way they do because the world made them that way. Betrayal, vengeance, ambition..... these themes don’t arrive screaming; they seep in quietly, like dampness in old stone.

The power system, however, is divisive. Cards. Grimoires. External tools.
Some will find it restrictive, even immersion-breaking. Others will appreciate the structure and the strategic ceiling it creates. This is not raw qi roaring through meridians.....it’s measured, symbolic, and cerebral.

Pacing is the true gatekeeper. The story is slow, unapologetically so. A hundred chapters in, and the protagonist is still young.... not weak, not stupid, but unrushed. Growth here is foundational, not explosive. If you demand immediate ascension, this path will frustrate you. If you enjoy watching roots dig deep before the tree rises, you’ll be rewarded.

As for the characters.... the protagonist stands firm, intelligent, driven, and observant. Side characters vary: some are vivid and memorable, others feel quieter, orbiting the protagonist rather than burning with independent fire. There are glimpses of greatness.... teachers, parents, companions....and you can sense the author laying groundwork rather than cashing it in early.

    Verdict:
This is not a novel for binge-hungry cultivators seeking instant breakthroughs.
This is for readers who enjoy process, weight, and worlds that breathe. troll6

I don’t get this obsession with harem vs. not harem. As if removing a harem suddenly makes a novel “deep” or “well written,” or adding one magically makes it worth reading 😂

Someone on Reddit even said that novels are all the same anyway, so the only reason to keep reading is the excitement a harem brings, and that if a novel is labeled “not harem” from the start, it already feels boring and gets dropped.

    Even Reverend Insanity have harem.

Just on his way to Rank 8 alone you’ve got Hei Lou Lan, Bai Ning Bing, Fairy Zi Wei, Fairy Li Shan, Lady White Rabbit (bunny girl), plus multiple female Gu Immortals from Shadow Sect and Heavenly Court.

The reason why people hate harem, me included is because it ruins an otherwise good story, it’s mostly never written correctly, most novel fail very badly to explain how it’s logical to the story especially when it’s made the main theme out of nowhere, it’s okay if it’s written correctly, but how many of those do we have compared to countless hidden gems it has ruined, i see it as wish fulfillment at this point and Reverend Insanity is not harem, not every story where the MC has multiple women around him is Harem, most importantly you have to look at their interactions.

harem is shit because its incredibly boring. all the side characters are usually not interesting at all, im reading a story about some dude building a galactic empire, i dont care about how many chicks hes banging, especially when they get introduced for 5 chapters before joining, and then the characters are acting lovey dovey like dude u have 3 other wives what the f#ck? and the women dont care at all? acting like sisters from that point on, and they are all legit copies from one another, personality is the same and the looks are also the same, just some beautiful girl. i dont mind if the mc bangs multiple girls in the story, but dont try to make it romantical like they all love each other so much, they dont and they seem braindead acting like they do for no reason

im saying all of this but im shitting in the same way on 99% of no harem romance stories too, pretty much all english webnovels. reading Supremacy Games or dimensional descent or something of the sort, peerless beautiful woman accompanying mc and its so hard to give a shit about her and you really just wanna see how the mc gets stronger.

Ahhhhoa! Are you referring to the novel were the MC at the premise of the novel being r***d by a theft then transmigrate to old china were there is super power and the shenanigans, were there is also the empire building theme and etc. I have read it and i have to say it is the trashiest novel ever, i mean as you mentioned he start conquer other empires and take all the princesses and the emperor's harem, just for one to three chapters, then never ever being ever mentioned again, such garbage novel, i dont even know why i had read it in the first place.

And yeah i understand what you mean but sometimes it is very nerve wrecking when there is literally very outstanding and special female side characters and the MC don't even care the slightest, which lets one ponder if he is castrate, not even one glance of interest, solely focused on his grandeur pursuit after hid dream, which, sometimes after some chapters starts to become boring and repetitive. An example is Super Gene and Top VR Sword Master of Heavens.

I'll review this for you guys, so far 367 chapter in the story is quite good, compared to the innkeeper this is more focused on the story it self. The MC is still a kid so there is a room to grow, though i don't quite like him right now. The pace is slow 300 chapter in still at the first realm of power (there are 6 realm introduced so far). The power system is unique and the power shown are really cool and uncommon like in the innkeeper.

    So far 7/10

Give it a try if you like the innkeeper

It's different from others system like plot, the humor is really good and the author really likes to insert a meme to the story but it's somehow fit.

MC's power progression is slow (i think that's common on his novels), the power systems and types are also unique and cool.

Example is there is this follower of the mc that just pops out of nowhere his species is called drama cat and he has a reality bending power, anything he is saying became true, because he's always being dramatic it became a curse to the team. The MC always have a jaw breaker candy to stop him from blabbering.
