The planet Neire is cursed, and a malevolent corruption is spread throughout the lands.

Dark horrors reside around every corner, and safety is a concept of tales and legends. Trapped in a world where they are at the bottom of the natural food chain, humans have followed the trends of the lands, and done something unnatural.

Banding together, they hunted their hunters.

Weapons in hand, they faced living nightmares. Unable to wield aether, they used Eldrim cards to spread their dominion. In a world where death was their only birthright, they carved out an empire that was legend incarnate.

But while they fought cursed monsters outside, a more insidious monstrosity struck from within. Greed, deception, and war marked the end of the Valeriya Empire.

Hundreds of years later, Nero is born into a nation of warriors, in an age cracking beneath an unseen weight.
Whispers of a new order, undercurrents to seize power, and a desire to form a new empire have spread throughout the lands.

The world is ready for a change, but it might not be ready for Nero who was betrayed.

They messed with his brother, and now, they must face the consequences. Collapse

Is there anyone who can recommend novels with this kind of style? A novel with a slow and serious plot, solid world-building (a world that makes logical sense), strong character development (not hollow characters created just to suck off the MC), a non-cliched story (I’m sick of transmigration, reincarnation, and system tropes), and an MC who isn’t a perfectionist (the MC actually develops as a character and doesn’t have to be overpowered).
    .
I’ve already read several novels with a similar vibe, including:
Kill the Sun, Kingdoms Bloodline, Lord of Mysteries, and this novel, The Eldrim Cards.

The author’s other work, The Innkeeper is exactly what you’re after. Personally, I’d say it is the single best cultivation novel I have ever read.

It's not quite this style, but the novel "The Zombie Knight Saga (Novel)" is very good and unfortunately little known. The original is written in English, and the author has made it publicly available, meaning he does it for his own pleasure and with passion, without any commercial intentions. Unfortunately, because of this, the chapter release rate is slow. If you decide to read it, be sure to have a notebook and pen ready to jot down characters and lore.

It gets annoying how much the author glazes the MC and how desperate the author seems to show the MC is some sorta alhpa male. Just a few chapters in and its like the author is screaming at you at how much of a Sigma the MC is.

I understand your point, but... this chapter has more inner dialog and trust me this way is better, it may become a little annoying, but it's essential for us to keep a hold of the MC mentality, instead of wondering why he's answering that way when it's obvious that those questions are dubious and tricky, we can see that he got it, it is a trick question, but he decided to give the answers that would be beneficial to him without be dishonest.

read until chapter 97 before i dropped. the power system seems interesting but progress is very slow until now atleast. the novel starts basically with the mc reaching cultivation stage 1 in the first chapter, and ch 97 he has 3% progress towards reaching lvl 2.

now im fairly certain theres gonna be some quick progression events soon, and he is capable of fighting above his level also, but the tempo certainly isnt very fast regardless.

you can get used to the dialogue, but it feels fairly cheesy, i wasnt a fan. you can get a feel for the way the characters talk in the first chapter, just know it stays that way.

the society they live in is also very unreasonable... all people are atleast stage 1, they reach it by the age of 14-17 or so, and many people train for higher levels, also a lot of people in the army since the country is governed by their military as the country constantly has to send people to the frontlines.

for some reason however, all the techniques are restricted...?? main character learns some technique that can help him a lot even at stage 1, given to him by his teacher, and he has to burn the papers after since its restricted information... and it wasnt even something crazy. just a basic method to better control his aether (mana), that it seems like most people who cultivated even a little bit would quickly reach access to. for a world where people constantly die and every student is encouraged to reach higher levels, its a bit unreasonable for all the info to be restricted.
