Chapter 134: Overture (1)

On Monday morning, when the police sent the first batch of thirty-five people potentially infected with the "Psychological Virus" to Zhiwei Technology, Wei Hongsi had already made the relevant arrangements. As soon as those people arrived, the staff immediately began monitoring and diagnosing them.

In the initial stage of this work, the original Project CDU team was still responsible. Subsequently, Wei Hongsi would arrange for new project team members to join and gradually take over until the personnel transition was complete.

But not everyone would be replaced. Among the original members, several had been selected by Wei Hongsi as new project team members. Having these "old hands" to guide them would make the personnel transition smoother, without affecting the normal operation of the project team.

The only new member was Yuan Zhenhui. However, Wei Hongsi planned to have him more involved in data analysis work; assigning him to the Monitoring Chamber was only temporary.

Seeing that the monitoring and diagnostic work was proceeding in an orderly manner, Wei Hongsi returned to his office and began conducting one-on-one meetings with the personnel seconded from Department Two.

This wasn't an interview. When new members joined, they always needed to meet with their supervisor to get to know each other and become familiar.

Through these meetings, Wei Hongsi could form a concrete impression of these people, matching them with the photos and resumes in their profiles. When introducing the work content and job arrangements, he could also understand the other party's thoughts and reactions, which couldn't be reflected in the documents.

Everyone who came in couldn't help but be startled upon seeing Wei Hongsi. Although the degree of expression varied, their inner feelings were quite similar.

At Zhiwei Technology, someone in their early twenties becoming a supervisor was not unheard of, but it was definitely rare as phoenix feathers and qilin horns.

After all, both academic qualifications and work experience required a lot of time to accumulate. Without these two things, what qualified someone to be a supervisor?

Moreover, a few people had seen Wei Hongsi before. Although Department Two had nearly three hundred people, Wei Hongsi had at least sat in the lobby for over two months, so there were some who had encountered him more frequently and remembered him.

However, although these people were very surprised, they didn't voice their doubts on the spot.

The secondment notice was sent directly to them by the Department Director, and they hadn't come to the wrong office, so naturally, there couldn't be a mistake.

Furthermore, they still held some expectations for this secondment.

Some people were in a similar situation to Yuan Zhenhui—they had been in their original group long enough and would be happy just to change environments. Some were tired of repetitive work and wanted to try new challenges in a different field.

Others thought that someone so young being able to become a supervisor meant either he had exceptional abilities or had connections higher up. Following such a leader should offer good prospects.

Of course, as long as they were retained, they would receive a salary increase of no less than ten percent. The driving effect this had on them couldn't be ignored.

But not questioning didn't mean there were no doubts.

Technical people always had some pride. Taking advantage of the opportunity to learn about the work, these people raised some technical questions, with a few individual questions being quite tricky in their angle.

This kind of secondment was a two-way choice. Wei Hongsi could choose these people, and these people also had the right to refuse.

If this step was skipped or handled carelessly, it might not only cause some people to withdraw, requiring a new selection, but also affect subsequent work. For a team to operate efficiently, the team members' trust in their leader was very important.

So Wei Hongsi couldn't just brush them off; at the very least, he had to dispel these people's most basic doubts.

Limited by his work experience, if he encountered cases he hadn't dealt with before, he might not necessarily be able to answer them without sufficient understanding.

Fortunately, these people weren't that excessive. They only raised questions based on the new position's work content, so handling them was calm and effortless.

Such meetings were still quite time-consuming. Meeting all seven people took over two hours.

Wei Hongsi was about to check the diagnostic status of the people sent by the police when a chat message popped up on WD. Gu Shiming wanted him to come to the 2801 President's Office immediately.

Wei Hongsi replied "Received," locked his screen, and left the office.

He guessed that the leaders from the Task Force should be at Director Dai's place. It was almost noon by now, so the content of the commission and cooperation between the two sides should have been discussed long ago. What else needed to be discussed, and required him to listen in, was probably related to the case details.

Taking the elevator to the 28th floor, Liu Zhifeng was still waiting in the elevator hall.

Wei Hongsi followed him into the President's Office. Entering the work area, he first glanced at the people present. Last time, he wasn't familiar with the environment and had neglected to observe, but this time, he wouldn't.

On the sofa in the reception area, Dai Songquan sat in the main seat, with Ji Yongsheng and Gu Shiming sitting below him. On the guest side sat three people, with Director Liang and Director Shi in the center, and Yu Zhen sitting to the side. He hadn't expected all three of these leaders to come.

Wei Hongsi first nodded to company leaders like Dai Songquan, then greeted the three Task Force leaders.

Director Liang stood up and shook hands with Wei Hongsi, saying with a smile, "Teacher Wei, today you're on your home turf."

Then Director Shi also shook hands with Wei Hongsi and exchanged a few pleasantries.

When shaking hands, Yu Zhen even patted Wei Hongsi on the upper arm, appearing very close.

Seeing Director Liang stand up, Dai Songquan and the other two also stood up, smiling as they watched this scene, unable to hide their surprise.

They knew Wei Hongsi was assisting the police with some work, and that it was likely very effective. In the previous conversation, although not many case details were involved, the several police leaders had all praised Wei Hongsi highly.

But they hadn't expected these leaders to show Wei Hongsi such courtesy. Given Director Liang and Director Shi's ranks and ages, they could have completely treated Wei Hongsi as a junior and greeted him while seated.

Their taking the initiative to stand up and shake Wei Hongsi's hand showed that the help he had provided the police was very important. He had earned this treatment through his strength.

After everyone sat down again, Wei Hongsi took a seat next to Gu Shiming.

Director Shi said, "The reason we came this time, besides commissioning the diagnosis and treatment of the 'Psychological Virus,' is also to discuss another very important cooperation with Director Dai."

Dai Songquan nodded. "Director Shi, please go ahead."

Director Shi said, "As I've already introduced, this case was orchestrated by a transnational criminal organization. It has now been determined that organization had long planned to make a move on Zhiwei's AI system. Your company is the victim in this case."

Dai Songquan nodded. Ji Yongsheng and Gu Shiming felt the pressure on their shoulders lighten considerably.

As the saying goes, "You can be a thief for a thousand days, but you can't guard against one for a thousand days." Being targeted by a transnational criminal organization—not to say it was impossible to guard against—but at the very least, their responsibility was very small, or even nonexistent.

Director Shi continued, "In the early stages of the case, your company began research on the prevention and treatment of the 'Psychological Virus,' which also provided us with great help. Otherwise, for this commission, we wouldn't have been able to find a suitable partner."
