Chapter 1176: Battle of Yin and Yang

The radiance of sun and moon suddenly slowed. At Tang San's chest, a white vortex appeared, spinning rapidly. Though the sun and moon power still pressed down despite being slowed, it was pulled into that white light, absorbed and merged within.

Under the stunned gazes of the Sunborne Nymph Emperor and the Earthshade Nymph Emperor, Tang San was, with his own strength alone, drawing in both of their attacks. And these were the powers of ultimate yin and ultimate yang!

Behind him, blades of blue-gold grass grew swiftly, joined by more leaves and vines weaving together. Droplets of white light fell like dew from the grass, dropping into the vortex before him, making it thicker and more condensed.

He must be insane.

That was the first thought of both the Sunborne and the Earthshade Nymph Emperors.

They had studied ultimate yin and ultimate yang for ages. They had tried harmonizing the two before, but these powers were too domineering; when they touched, it was as if two needle tips clashed, instantly exploding. That was why their combined attacks could unleash such devastating force.

But now they were witnessing something they believed impossible. Tang San was enduring the power of sun and moon at once, and even absorbing it into his body.

Mad… He must be utterly mad!

Yet with every instant that passed, their shock only deepened. That raging power of yin and yang, once absorbed into the vortex at Tang San's chest, vanished like pieces of clay sinking into the sea. At the same time, the white light radiating from him grew stronger and stronger.

What is he doing? How could he possibly withstand ultimate yin and ultimate yang?

Not only were the two Nymph Emperors shocked beyond belief, every Emperor still alive was staring wide-eyed.

Even the Undying Demon Emperor, who had been meditating to heal, looked up at the sky. He wanted to see how Tang San and Xiao Wu would overcome the Sunborne and Earthshade Nymph Emperors.

In his view, these two should be the harder to face. Maybe the plane would restrict the amount of energy they could gather, unlike in his case. But even if that was the case, the Laws he touched upon were still Laws of this plane, while the explosive power resulting from the merger of yin and yang was, in terms of Laws, beyond what the plane could suppress. They truly could shatter heaven and earth. Even when the Crystal Demon Emperor was alive, she had acknowledged that these two had the greatest potential for evolution in the entire Ancestral Court.

But what was he seeing now? Their blazing yin-yang force was being not just endured, but even absorbed. Could a human truly do such a thing?

Yet soon, changes appeared in Tang San's body.

Golden-red and deep-blue lights began seeping from his body. His frame trembled, showing that his state was not truly stable.

The two Emperors exchanged glances, determination flashing in their eyes, and both increased their output. At once, Tang San's body shone with alternating red and blue lights. But at his chest, the white vortex became all the more powerful.

Xiao Wu watched silently from afar. She did not move forward; she simply held the Asura Shadow Sword in her hands and quietly observed. The crimson light on the blade flickered faintly.

Gradually, pain appeared on Tang San's face. He was shivering more and more violently, though the vortex at his chest still spun with relative steadiness.

A muffled groan escaped him as the golden Sea God phantom behind him collapsed.

The White Tiger Demon Emperor clenched his fists. Too arrogant… Tang San was too arrogant! How could anyone withstand ultimate yin and yang at once? It was impossible.

Now arcs of lightning crackled over Tang San's skin, proof that the energies of yin and yang had reached a density so extreme they were forcing his body to the brink of explosion.

His face twisted in pain, but he stubbornly held on, forcing the vortex at his chest to continue.

Behind him, another figure appeared—an image of Tang San himself, with a rainbow halo behind his head, a white vortex spinning in his chest. Yet the lower half of this image had been dyed in sun and moon colors, half golden-red, half deep-blue.

Had his body been tainted, eroded by the two Emperors' powers?

The white vortex spun frantically, but its instability was plain for everyone to see. Golden light flickered across Tang San's skin.

Not far away, Xiao Wu's face also twisted in pain. White light seeped from her brow and chest, spreading across her whole body. Even the Asura Shadow Sword in her hand trembled.

The White Tiger Demon Emperor held his breath; the Crystal Phoenix Demon Emperor even wanted to leap into the air, but invisible chains restrained them. This was the rule of Conquering the Heavens. None, not even Emperors, could interfere.

Their loss of composure was because they realized one thing: the Lifebond Necklace.

Tang San and Xiao Wu's lives were bound by it. If Tang San could not endure, then Xiao Wu would also bear half the burden. Though Tang San fought alone, the pain was shared by both. And if Tang San's body burst under the excessive burden of yin and yang, Xiao Wu would certainly perish as well.

How could the White Tiger and Crystal Phoenix not be shaken? Yet they could do nothing.

The Celestial Fox Demon Emperor also watched intently. He alone had not yet entered the trial of Ascending to the Throne. If Tang San defeated the Sunborne and Earthshade Nymph Emperors, then the next match would be against him. By all rights, he should have been thrilled.

But as things proceeded, his face grew only more grim.

He felt it. Something was wrong. Tang San's actions were premeditated. Against the Undying Demon Emperor, he had won easily; he had a shield strong enough to block the combined assault of the Undying Demon Emperor and the Parasol Tree Nymph Emperor, so why not use it now? He had a divine technique that could restrain even the Undying Demon Emperor, so why not use it now? Why insist on facing ultimate yin and yang with his own body?

The Celestial Fox Demon Emperor, Master of Fortune, sensed his own fortune withering rapidly. More than that, the Ancestral Court's collective fortune itself was falling sharply. The trend was not shifting in the slightest, even though Tang San and Xiao Wu seemed about to collapse.

Something was wrong. Something was very wrong.

And just then, unnoticed by anyone, Tang San rubbed his right thumb against his middle finger and snapped.

In the next moment, a low rumble shook the Ancestral Court.

Penguin's Choice™ #3: Where Immortals Once Walked

This novel is translated by my old partner in crime, Tiptoe. Tome of Troubled Times was a great run (if you enjoy porn with an excellent plot) but a little on the history/politics/culture-heavy side. This one is a little more light-hearted, and with 2k+ chapters already in, you're in for a good time and a long time.
