Book 3: Chapter 132 (4) |
The black dragon scale was like a key unlocking the gates of hell.
Now, it was about to release the souls beyond those gates.
Of course, the release required a sacrifice.
And the sacrificial offering was—
The Dagger Trio!
The still-dazed Gini brothers stared at the scene.
Though they knew about second-stage fusion, could these charred fusion beasts really come back to life?
As they wondered, three tendrils shot out from the black corpse pile.
“What’s going on?! Have these monsters gone mad?!”
“Let go! This is disgusting!”
“Big Bro, what the hell is—”
Gini looked up at the king and queen on the land boat,
“Your Majesty, order these monsters to release us!”
“Gini, now is the time for you to serve the Empire. You’ll gain unparalleled power and a new body—isn’t that what you’ve always dreamed of?”
“…W-What?!”
Gini’s mind went blank.
The next second, the tendrils dragged the three brothers into the pile of black corpses.
The sacrifice was complete, and the black specter crossed the boundary of life and death, returning once more.
“ROAR!!!”—
A supreme monster born from hundreds of dangerous species, fusion beasts, and the Dagger Trio—
The Primal Nightmare was born.
The monster slowly rose, countless tendrils writhing on its massive body.
Heads of various dangerous species and fusion beasts dotted its form.
At its apex were the Dagger Trio, now completely consumed by darkness.
Their eyes were lifeless, staring blankly ahead, letting the black monster drain their primal power.
A powerful gust swept through, forcing Leon and the others on the ground into defensive stances.
This colossal monster struck fear into every citizen of the Empire who saw it.
“W-What is that thing?!”
“The Empire was secretly creating such disgusting monsters…”
“Run… run! That’s beyond anything we can comprehend… Even Leon probably can’t—”
…
In an instant, the already chaotic Empire district descended into greater pandemonium.
The clamor seemed to annoy the Primal Nightmare, which began attacking the crowd indiscriminately.
Black-red primal power gathered in the countless monster mouths on its body, then fired in all directions.
Worried about civilian casualties, Leon shouted to Rebecca and the others on a nearby low building,
“Get the Lionheart Society to help evacuate the citizens! Everyone, leave the Upper District!”
“Yes, Captain!”
With the crowd’s evacuation promptly arranged, Leon and the two Dragon Kings had to face the terrifying Primal Nightmare again.
“Such heavy resentment… I thought second-stage fusion was already the Empire’s *shameless* limit, but there’s an even bigger player.”
“Judging by this thing’s physical strength, even your Dragon Extinction might not take it down.”
“Yeah… if it doesn’t work, my magic reserves really will—”
“Wait, is this another setup?”
Leon gave a wry smile and shook his head, “No. Two Dragon Extinctions really are my limit. Wanna… give it a shot?”
Leon rarely lacked confidence in winning a battle and almost never said things like “give it a shot.”
But even without clashing, Leon and the others could deeply feel the Primal Nightmare’s terror.
It was a collective of the Dagger Trio’s and countless dangerous species’ resentment.
To it, anything living had to be killed.
So… they could only *go all out*.
“Hold on.”
Roswitha said,
“You both feel the intense resentment emanating from this monster, right?”
Leon and Claudia nodded.
“That means… it’s harboring extremely strong negative emotions.”
With that, the Silver Dragon Queen stepped forward, standing at the foot of the Primal Nightmare.
Her slender figure, compared to the monster towering dozens of stories high, was insignificantly small.
But the next moment, a radiant seven-colored light burst forth, a powerful wave of righteous energy rippling outward.
“Primal Magic—”
The queen gripped the seven-colored energy, her silver hair dancing wildly in the air currents. To steady herself, she spread her dragon wings behind her. In that moment, a silver-white flower bloomed on the battlefield, her graceful figure like an angel descended to earth,
“Soul Judgment.”
…
The Primal Nightmare seemed to sense Roswitha’s primal power, which was entirely opposite to its own, causing it to grow even more frenzied.
It stopped attacking randomly in all directions and instead focused all its energy in its chest.
A black-red magical orb gathered there, its internal aura of violence so oppressive it made it hard to breathe.
Even in its charging phase, Leon could feel the unprecedented power of this strike.
He stepped forward, gathering lightning magic to assist Roswitha.
But Claudia pressed a hand on his shoulder.
“What’s wrong?” Leon asked, turning back.
“A clash of primal powers—your regular lightning magic won’t help.”
Claudia said, “And that black dragon scale is strange. Aside from Roswitha’s primal power, most conventional magic probably won’t work against it.”
Leon gritted his teeth silently. Though reluctant, Claudia had explained the situation clearly. If he acted rashly, not only would he fail to help Roswitha, but he might also cause unnecessary trouble.
With this in mind, Leon stepped back, then slowly raised his arm, shielding Claudia behind him. Immediately, magical energy surged, forming a blue skeletal frame.
