Book 3: Chapter 119 (1) |
The Lionheart Society wasn’t just a revolutionary organization resisting the Empire; its members were elite talents from various fields.
So, regarding the news that their spiritual leader, Mr. Leon Kasmod, had married the Silver Dragon Queen Roswitha and fathered three daughters, everyone launched into heated discussions.
A former Empire dragonologist exclaimed repeatedly:
“I’ve studied dragon reproduction for half my life, but I never imagined humans and dragons could produce offspring. This will be the greatest discovery in cross-species research!”
A former royal family counselor raised a question:
“Under what psychological conditions would a sufficiently exceptional human male bond with an equally exceptional female dragon? This is a question worth pondering.”
And a former five-star general of the Dragon-Slaying Corps declared:
“Give him a chance to be captured, and he could easily win over the Silver Dragon Queen. Even the Sun God standing beside him would be reduced to a mere backdrop. Leon Kasmod is destined to be the most dazzling monument in the history of both human and dragon races!”
Watching everyone indulge in discussing and speculating about his and the Mother Dragon’s love story, Leon could only give a helpless smile, not bothering to stop them.
As long as they didn’t reject Roswitha, the Dragon King, that was enough.
As for the rest, let them chat however they want.
Anyway, Leon had told the truth, so he wasn’t afraid of rumors.
While no one was paying attention, Roswitha shot a sidelong glance at the *dog man* beside her, then quietly reached out and gave his waist a hard pinch.
Leon felt a fiery sting but, with so many people around, didn’t dare cry out. His face contorted for just a moment.
When Roswitha released her fingers, Leon immediately put distance between them.
Clutching his aching waist, he asked, “Why’d you suddenly pinch me?”
The queen’s pretty face flushed slightly, and she avoided Leon’s eyes. Standing there with her arms crossed, staring straight ahead,
“Who—who told you to talk about *us* in front of so many people?”
“But didn’t I tell the truth?”
“You!—”
“From thousand-year-old dragon fossils to five-year-old dragon cubs, everyone in the dragon race knows we’re married. So don’t humans have a right to know too?”
Roswitha listened to his logical explanation, wanting to retort but unable to find a good comeback. In the end, she could only hiss Who-who gritted teeth,
“Twisting words to seize reason.”
“Hey, how am I *twisting words to seize reason*? Mother Dragon, let me tell you, I—”
Mid-sentence, Leon seemed to realize something and abruptly stopped.
He looked at Roswitha’s slightly flushed face, blinked—
And had a sudden epiphany.
“Oh~~ I get it.”
Roswitha rolled her eyes, “What do you get now?”
“You’re actually thrilled that I announced you’re my wife in front of all these people, but since you’re used to being tight-lipped, showing too much joy would ruin your Silver Dragon Queen’s aloof persona. So you pinch me and deny it to cover up how excited you are inside, right?”
Having her little thoughts exposed by this *dog thing* in just a few words, Roswitha was both.annoyed and embarrassed.
If ther so many people around, she’d really want to activate her dragon runes and give this guy a taste of her power.
The queen glared at him, muttering under her breath,
“Just wait till we get home. I’ll deal with you then.”
“My master’s wife used to say that to him all the time.”
“Then you and your master really are cut from the same mold.”
“No, I mean…”
He deliberately dragged out the last syllable, *selling a little cliffh
Roswitha tilted her head, listening.
“We’re increasingly like a real couple.”
“…Keep saying shameless stuff like that, and I’ll spill all your embarrassing stories right in front of the Lionheart Society!”
Leon immediately shut up.
The members continued chattinghe couple didn’t interrupt.
Leon walked to the edge of the speaking platform and jumped down easily.
The platform was about a meter off the ground. Roswitha, wearing a long dress and high heels, couldn’t make such bold movements, so after Leon jumped, he turned back, took her hand, and helped her down to keep her from falling.
Roswitha let Leon support her with one hand while lifting her skirt with the other, gracefully hopping off the platform.
“This world is so magical, Captain.”
Rebecca’s voice came from behind.
Leon let go of Roswitha’s hand and turned, “What do you mean?”
“The Silver Dragon Queen needs someone to hold her hand to get down from a one-meter platform, and the rough-and-tumble dragon-slaying hero is considerate of his wife in every way. Tsk tsk tsk, is this the power of love?”
The couple could tell the little brat was teasing them.
Roswitha naturally couldn’t say much—after all, in Rebecca’s eyes, she was the “gentle sister-in-la.” persona.
But Leon wasn’t so polite.
He stepped forward, grabbed Rebecca by the collar, “Your sister-in-law flew all night to the Empire, exhausted from the journey. What’s wrong with me helping her down from the platform?”
Lifted off the ground, feet dangling, Rebecca grinned fawningly, “Nothing, nothing! Wishing you two a hundred years of harmony and three more kids—ow!”
At “three more kids,” Leon let go.
Rebecca crashed to the floor.
The twin-tailed girl stood up, dusting herself off,
“Jeez, why are you only gentle with sister-in-law and so rough with everyone else?”
*That’s because you haven’t seen me being rough with your sister-in-law,* Leon grumbled inwardly.
“By the way, where’s Martin?” Leon asked.
“At home.”
Rebecca said, “Because of family reasons, he rarely comes to the Lionheart Society. But whenever the Empire’s about to make a big move, Martin’s the one who tips us off early, which has kept the Lioyour nheart Society going smoothly so far.”
Leon nodded.
“Captain, this time we’re officially declaring war on the Empire, exposing their conspiracies while clearing your name. Do you have any specific plans?”
“Yeah, I do.”
On the way here, Leon had already roughed out an overall plan.
“I’ve calculated the dates. In three days, it’ll be the Empire’s annual Thousand Lantern Festival. The whole nation will be out on the streets releasing paper lanterns. We can use that opportunity to expose the Empire in one fell swoop.”
