Chapter 2886: Young Supremes

“Pathetic."

Azarax was leaning on the rocks, hidden from the sun. Sunny was not sure if the ancient tyrant was aware that he had begun to shy away from direct sunlight as of late, but it was not difficult to notice.

The towering skeleton moved his axe slightly, staring at the two of them holding hands with his empty eye sockets.

"The two of you disgust me to the core simply by virtue of being who you are, but on top of that, you are an offence to the very idea of a Supreme."

He clacked his teeth.

“A Supreme is someone who submits to no one... at least not voluntarily. On the contrary, simply by existing, he forces others to submit to him. Therefore, two Supremes can never coexist as equals. Ideally, one will kill and plunder the lands of the other — at worst, one will be conquered but stay alive."

Azarax shook his head.

"Yet here you are, pretending to be love birds. How appalling. One of you should have killed the other a long time ago."

He glared at them and spat:

“And how are you so ignorant and weak? Pathetic, truly pathetic. Is this what remains of the Flame? If so, you shame your ancestors."

Sunny gave him a cold look.

The ancient tyrant was not entirely wrong. Compared to him, they were indeed ignorant in some areas and could be perceived as weaker than the dire enemies he had faced in the past.

However...

"Hey, you fossil. Remind me, what were you doing twelve years ago?"

Azarax grinned.

"Hanging on the tree."

Sunny nodded.

“In all your Supreme glory. Do you know what we were doing twelve years ago, though? Trying to survive as mundane humans. It only took us ten years to become Supreme. How long did it take you?"

Azarax laughed.

“A Dormant human becoming Supreme in ten years? Preposterous. Even I, the great and terrible Azarax, spent centuries climbing to the throne of Supremacy. Stick to the truth, Shadow. You are a terrible liar.”

Sunny smiled.

"Oh, no. I am the most honest person in the world, actually — two worlds, even. So, let me tell you the honest truth... you've been around for thousands of years, and you are still merely a Supreme. Now that's truly pathetic."

He shook his head.

"Plus, the previous rulers of our realm had similar ideas to yours. The world is too small for two Supremes, gaining ultimate power through civil war conquest... crap like that. Not only did it bring unspeakable harm to our world, but we killed those Supremes — together. I'd say that proves my point, no?"

Azarax just gnashed his teeth silently. Letting out a sigh, Sunny looked around the desert.

As the sun rose a little higher, he sighed and spoke to Nephis:

“I don't suppose we will be able to find the Black Skull. Now that I think about it, it's a bit funny... and a bit sad. So many people died during the Battle of the Black Skull, but the Citadel they fought for ended up ownerless. The Skinwalker chased Mordret away, and even when he destroyed the Skinwalker years later, it remained empty somewhere out there, in the Nightmare Desert."

Sunny hesitated for a moment, then spoke to Azarax:

"Hey, do you maybe know who that skull belonged to? It's a huge skull, entirely black, with three eyes."

Azarax glared at him darkly.

“Three eyes? Must have belonged to one of that abominable girl's abominable kin, then. The nephilim."

The ancient skeleton spat on the sand. Only, of course, he did not have any saliva... or lips, or a tongue, or any other part necessary to spit. So, it looked quite odd. Azarax spoke in a somber tone:

"Three eyes... it's the sign of the Void. It's the sign of the angels, and of what angels touched. Nephilim were the same, even if they chose to hide their third eye most of the time. Those horrid things. They joined our glorious army to fight against the gods, but even though we were glad to have their terrifying strength on our side, we weren't happy to be in their company."

Sunny gave him a long look.

"Why did you all hate the nephilim so much, anyway? I never quite understood it."

Azarax scoffed.

"Because they were abominations. They were something that was not supposed to exist — their very existence went against the laws of everything. Things can be either Divine or Unholy, either of the Flame or of the Void. But they were both, and therefore, in contradiction to everything that is right, good, and holy:"

He glared at Sunny.

“But why are you asking me? You have one of those abominations right in front of you, holding your hand. You can just ask her."

Sunny smiled.

“I am asking you because I'm interested to learn what you have to say."

He remained silent for a few moments, and then asked:

“What about Godgrave, then? Was the giant skeleton lying there a nephilim once, as well?"

Azarax leaned on his axe.

“What is Godgrave? Did someone bury the gods?"

Sunny grimaced, then shook his head.

“No. It's just what we call that colossal skeleton — it must have belonged to a creature that was at least ten thousand kilometers tall. And someone still managed to kill it."

Azarax laughed.

“That is impossible. There has never been such a giant in the world. Only the World Tree could compare, but it obviously did not possess a skeleton. So, it could not have been a nephilim... in fact, I doubt that a creature like that ever existed at all."

Sunny took a mental note of the fact that Azarax was not aware of the being whose skeleton had later become Godgrave. Did that mean that the ancient tyrant had been ignorant, or that the enormous skeleton was only created after he had been nailed to a tree?

‘Curious.'

That thing definitely had something to do with the Void, though.

So, Sunny was not sure that he wanted to know the answer.

Although flaws are seen as "unwavering laws", that's only in relation to the person who possessed the flaw. If such a thing did happen, it would probably only work on the opponents with same relative strength level. It wouldn't work on asterion because he is above her in every way. Obviously there's exceptions to this like Sunny's or Kai's flaws. Their flaws work on those around them who are stronger because technically they are only interpreting information and not affecting the world. It would be really interesting if they encounter a being who is say the god of truths and who by divine domain can influence them and their flaws because of it. It's a really interesting thought and I enjoy the nuanced interaction the mask has on certain people

she won't be able to save anyone. Because Sunny's flaw sounds like "You can't tell the truth," not "You can't not tell a lie," which would make him just talk nonstop. Not only would she probably not be able to provide first aid or smth, but she wouldn't be able to simply leave a battle without killing the opponent or losing.

This was my thought as well before Asterion enthralled her to kill Cassie.

But we've seen how the flaw only affects the person's will; but if it's not her will, the flaw is bypassed and she was able to kill future Cassie by Asterion's will.

Therefore I think she'll still be able to choose who she wants to kill but instead of the flaw preventing her from delivering the killing blow it'll help her instead.

      One shot one kill.

If there is a being that is capable of resisting corruption, it is the Dreamspawn.

If they do not belong to the waking world or the dreams realm, they do not belong to the void either.

Eurys, Azarax and all the other ancients really be hella racist towards Nephilim without any shame despite being on the same side as them lol.

Three eyes being the sign of the void is interesting to know. Is it just the angels, or all the other "species" of the void have that feature. With all the ones we know so far.

The Darkness Void Being whose death spilled True Darkness and created the Hollow Mountains
    Angels
Nephilim, while also being from the Flame
    Forgotten god
    And possibly godgrave?

When i look at this, I really love how G3 expands this world of his with the huge variety of races and species unlike most other novels. E.g. (gods, daemons, void beings, beings of Nothing, Creatures of darkness, shadow creatures, nephilim, Noble creatures, Nightmare creatures, humans, divine, unholy, stone saints, soul serpents, and so many more within the story)

Since they're talking about the Sun Slayer, is he alive or dead? Cassie had a vision of him getting up, but I wasn't sure if it was about the future or the past. If he can get up, then he's alive, right? But if he's alive, shouldn't he have a shadow? Or has the Shadow stolen it again? The Shadow could be called the God of Thievery.

It seems to me that he is dead, but the body of the Divine Being itself continues to live and function. Just as the bodies of the Seven exist after their death.

I need to learn more of the Nephilim and Nephis maybe that'll be contained in knowledge of corruption that she's currently trying to master.

she's a step above Asterion in not belonging anywhere, for her case it's not only her birth but her existence as a whole is an enigma.

and she still fights for humanity, Asterion gotta lock in he's just using his birth as an excuse to hide his cruelty. I'd rather see him die than lock in for what he did to Cassie tho.

I was unaware she's trying to learn about corruption, it's logical I guess. Since her aspect longing light bringer makes her incorruptible to the void, who else would be more suitable to venture out into the void than her?

Although I don't think the corruption spreading from the NC and corruption from the void is actually the same thing.
It's true corruption initially originated from the void that seeped through the abyss but once corrupted, NCs spread their own type of corruption, such was khanakht, skinwalker, and Asterion(yes he's considered NC with chimera heart).

Is her incorruptible aspect effective for all types of corruption? I think it is, I remember she shrugged of khanakht maddness...

That would be pretty crazy to believe if Nephis can resist Corruption from its source, being the Void. When we had the literal dream god fell to corruption and Weaver cutting of their own arm. I just think it would be too unreasonable for her immunity to Corruption be to that extent, maybe just the influence of corruption through the Nightmares and the nightmare creatures etc.

What exactly is the difference between the Void and the Flame? Or rather, the Void Creatures. Both were born from the primordial Chaos, both seek to consume each other, and both are in a constant state of conflict.

You might argue that Void Creatures are inherently chaotic, destructive, and insane, but is this truly the case? If I'm not mistaken, in the Tomb, the destructive influence of the Void was explained through the fundamental difference between the Void and the Flame. This means that any contact between these two substances leads to a drastic and violent change, which is perceived as destruction, madness, corruption, and so on. In other words, the Void does not cause destruction on its own; destruction only occurs when the Void and the Flame interact incorrectly.

The Void is described as a chaotic state where anything is possible, and therefore nothing makes sense. However, how can Void Beings exist in such a chaotic state? The very fact of their existence reduces their chaotic nature by definition. This makes them more "stable" and "consistent." Is this not what distinguishes Flame from Void?

And again, the question is, is the Flame so different from the Void Beings? What if the Void Beings are the same gods as the Seven? It's just that these beings are so different that their cooperation seems repulsive and terrifying to humans. It reminds me of the Outer Gods from ORV. What if the Nephilim and angels are "ambassadors" trying to help two fundamentally different worlds "find common ground"?

Alternatively, the Void may be nothing more than a chaotic abyss that defies analysis.

Just like the concepts & emotions of Outer gods cannot be explained to normal beings and gods in ORV, the Void beings are similar in that logic but, they bring corruption& knowledge with it.

I think nephis will be similar to Kim dokja in that aspect, bringing humanity and Void beings together by cleansing NC's from knowledge & Corruption.

Wouldn't that be crazy. Perhaps when she unlocks more of her aspect legacy, or maybe by reaching Sacred, she can finally "cleanse" the corruption from nc unlike Sunny with Death. This would return them to noble creatures and make it a part of her domain because hers, in a sense, is limited to only humans and territory.

Yeah because if you look at it, her domain can't grow that much because of 2 reasons. One being that there are only 3 billion humans in her domain, unless decades pass and the population increases manifold, it's still too slow. The other being that there are limited citadels. So the only way her domain could expand is by conquering more territory. Unlike the others, such as Sunny, Mordret, Asterion etc., there is no 'cap' on them, and they can definitely have more vessels, shades, and thralls as time goes with not being limited to humans.

Nope, I don't see how it's possible. NC don't have the same desire or longing like humans or noble races.
