Chapter 2844: Sands of Time

The Longing Domain did not have a lot of time left... and yet, oddly enough, Sunny and Nephis had nothing to do at the moment. They had reached the Nightmare Desert in the early morning, with the radiant sun slowly climbing the vibrant azure expanse of the sky. The Tomb of Ariel loomed on the horizon, but it was impossible to reach it — no matter how long one walked across the white sands, it never drew closer.

They had never attempted to traverse the Nightmare Desert at night, though, when the two cursed armies turned it into a deadly battlefield.

Sunny and Nephis both believed that the Tomb of Ariel could only be reached at night, so for now, all they could do was wait.

This was probably the last day of peace they would know for a while. The Nightmare Desert was vast, and even if their theory proved to be correct, it was going to take a lot of time to reach its heart — days, weeks more likely. Especially so because they would be fighting their way through a vast horde of undying beings who had been cursed by Shadow God to an eternity of endless war.

Shadow God had been quite a merciless one, it seemed. After all, he had not only cursed the army that fought under the banner of the rebellious daemons... his curse befell the warriors of the Divine Host, as well, making no distinction between friend or foe.

But what else would Sunny expect from the God of Death?

He and Nephis remained aboard the Chain Breaker, watching the desert silently. Growing tired of the heat, they retreated into the captain's cabin of the flying ship. Sunny remembered how the two of them had slept here during their journey to Fallen Grace...

Nephis, of course, did not.

There was probably something useful they could do until the night fell, like meditating to clear their minds or going over the battle plan a few more times. But neither of them wanted to waste their last day of peace on rote tedium. After all, there was a real chance that they would not return from this expedition alive... or at least that both of them would.

They were painfully aware of each other's presence, which filled the cabin with a heated pressure.

Neph's presence ignited Sunny's longing, and her Aspect allowed her to sense the flame of his desire.

A light touch turned into a kiss, and a kiss turned into something more.

In the end, they used the remaining time until nightfall to indulge themselves, engaged in passion and engrossed in each other with fervour and intensity that were as deliberate as they were frenetic, putting the sturdiness of the Chain Breaker to the test. Eventually, overcome by a sweet exhaustion, they cuddled on the sweaty sheets to rest and recover.

Sunny was reminded of what Effie had said to him once... that when one was facing death, they wanted to feel alive more than ever.

He was looking at the ceiling of the cabin, his thoughts moving slowly.

His mind drifted to the last time he and Nephis had spent time together in this cabin, and then to the future.

Soon, they would invade the Nightmare Desert. If they survived that, they would enter the Tomb of Ariel. If they were to survive that, as well, they would face the Vile Thieving Bird in battle.

And if they survived that, too, Sunny would most likely regain his fate.

That meant regaining his True Name, surrendering to the Shadow Bond once again, becoming a carrier of the Nightmare Spell for the second time, restoring his ability to challenge the Fifth Nightmare... And, most importantly, it meant that Sunny would be remembered.

That was something he had wanted for the longest time, and at times with desperate intensity. He had spent years unsure and not knowing what to do, only recently deciding that he did not want to be forgotten anymore.

That he wanted to be remembered by the people he held dear once again.

But now that the prospect of being remembered ceased to be a merely theoretical possibility and seemed to be within his grasp, Sunny suddenly found himself afraid.

Yes, people would regain their memories of him. Nephis would know what they had endured on the Forgotten Shore together and why she stayed behind in the collapsing Crimson Spire. She would remember how they slept in this very cabin as the Great River carried the Chain Breaker downstream, into the past.

She would know that this was not the first time the two of them had come to the Nightmare Desert together.

However...

She would also remember how Sunny had abandoned her in Verge to face the First Seeker alone. How he had run away to fulfill his own selfish, misguided desire.

She would remember his betrayal.

A heavy sigh escaped from his lips.

How would Nephis react if she remembered him?

Would she be happy? Would she be angry? Would she slap him across the face, perhaps, full of scathing accusations?

Or would she kiss and embrace him instead? Most of all...

Would their fragile relationship survive that revelation?

This closeness between them had not come easily. Sunny had worked tirelessly to build it, even if the foundation on which he was building it was missing. He often felt unsatisfied and saddened by the fact that the relationship between him and Nephis, while intimate and harmonious, did not run that deep.

But now that there was a possibility that their peculiar relationship would end, he found himself treasuring it immensely.

He didn't want to lose what they had now. He was already happy with what they had now. He was content...

But he was also greedy, and wanted more. So much more.

“You're thinking greedy thoughts again."

Nephis was playing with a stand of his hair, letting the black silk of it run between her fingers.

She smiled faintly.

"Your eyes glisten a certain way when you do."

Sunny turned his head and glanced at her silently.

She looked into his eyes, no space between them.

In the end, she turned away and sighed.

“I know every inch of you by heart. But I also don't know anything about you. It's so vexing."

He remained silent for a bit, then hugged her from behind and drew her closer.

What was he supposed to say?

‘It won't be for much longer. Soon... you'll know everything about me soon, once again.'

That was what he wanted to tell her.

But instead of saying these words aloud, Sunny smiled.

“I'm not too tall. So, there aren't that many inches of me, to begin with. Still, quite impressive..."

Nephis laughed quietly.

Soon, the brilliant sun melted into the dark horizon.

Their time of peace had run out.

Wouldn't you agree me with that Cassie not only a peeping tom but also experiencing those moments. I mean she simply share the senses of sunphis and get double pleasure if she wants more she can even touch herself it will be threefold.

My thoughts are corrupted but I think Cassie might have seen some good hd corrupted real life scene through her broken ability to witness the past.

Imagine khankhat or any other sacred being making love with someone and their memories get leaked into the future where a young blind girl sees them. Lol

Hell I wonder if Cassie through some twisted luck saw divine d or p…and blacked out…
I think I should sleep my thoughts are corrupted

Damn I love this chapter, Neph and Sunny drowning in burning passion.

    Sunny being the big spoon.

Sunny thinking about the fact that he abandoned her for his freedom instead of trusting her.

G3 alludeding to Nephis' reaction once she remembers the boy she has loved since before she first him, and Sunny fearing the outcome.

I hope Neph will have a lot of complicated emotions. Not just happiness that she remembers him, but also anger for him abandoning her, sadness that he chose selfish freedom over his loving trust in her. But in the end I really really hope that G3 keep their love that defied fate strong. Keep them together.

The fact that G3 brought this up shows me thet he is not going to skip out on the emotion, and hopefully deliver the greatest moment in Shadow Slave.

Nephis did like Sunny from the Forgotten Shore, and the feelings grew as the Story progresses but she nor Sunny never confided with each other due to their circumstances. Nephis would have kept it in her heart cause of her desire for usurping the Sovereign's thrones would leave no room for love, at least that was what she thought at the time.
In the TOA, we can get confirmation that Nephis liked Sunny, as they were somewhat flirting with each other while on the way to the meet Cassie.
Sunny finally accepted that he loved Nephis in TOA, but he thought they could not be together cause of Shadow Bond, as it will somewhat be a relationship of Master and Slave. That's why he went to the Estuary to get rid of Shadow Bond.
They never had time to talk to each other, to confide in each other. He knew Nephis liked Sunny, but he thought Nephis was holding back because of shadow bond but Nephis was holing back because she did not want to drag sunny into the War, as he made it clear at that time during Antarctica Campaign that he did not care if the Sovreigns kill each other except for they should not include waking world into the war. But Sunny would have fought for her Regardless if she had just asked him to take his side.
Nephis as stated in previous chapter would never have shown her weak side at that time and Sunny misunderstood it for the bond.

Damn, sunny always following Effie's words on relationships. It's same as effie having s*x when she was about to enter TOA. When the world is about to end, ppl will always try to complete their wishes and desires.

Imagine if he really follows in Effie's footsteps and gets Nephis pregnant in the Tomb of Ariel. Wouldn't that be something pressure

It's also interesting to know that Sunny and Nephis are the only couple in the series with divine lineages. If they do get a kid, how would their bloodline turn out? Would it result in a hybrid between a daemon and a descendant of a god, creating an entire new type of being? Or would Weaver's lineage consume the Sun lineage of the child. It's already proven that descendants can inherit the lineage of their parents. Perhaps another reason why Weaver's bloodline was considered a transgression by the gods because it could ensure that the Daemons will live on maybe

Interesting concept. But I think the gods and deamons never had the notion that they would all die one day. Even during the war of gods they still viewed themselves immortals

Why setup a lineage like weaver did? He was the only one expecting everyone will die, he caused it himself

For some reason I am not getting any notification from you replying which is weird.

But yeah it makes me think of the issue of being the heir of Weaver in waking up FG. By the time Sunny completes the lineage he will no longer be considered a human but a daemon in physiology, mind, soul and spirit. If this gets passed down to his descendants, who are more related to the daemons, then that is a real issue they have to tackle where they have to sever that connection to FG or they kill FG which still works

I think it's impossible for them to have kids.sorrry I'm not saying they are incapable but it's just impossible. I am not being able to see nephis as mama or sunny as a papa…these two aren't made for this kind of shit and I'm certainly certain that nephis wouldn't bring a one more weakness into the world.

The logical reason I can provide is" nephis is nephilim" and sunny is divine shadow with the blood of daemon.…remember what G3 told us?

Nephilim were the creature both hated by the gods and daemon.
That cursed talking skeleton, one of nine even said " nephilim were horrifying beings '
He ragarded them on the same level as void beings—angels.

So by taking in the grand perspective of the universe I think,it's impossible for this duo to have a child.
I could be wrong but I will stick with this statement as long as we don't get a mini sunphis

Would she slap him across the face, perhaps

It's good thing that Sunny's also a Supreme Titan or else just think how painful it would be to get slap across the face by a Supreme Titan! So we don't need to worry..he is safe(perhaps) pressure

Ahh this one annoyed me a little. If he does say this “‘It won't be for much longer. Soon... you'll know everything about me soon, once again.'“ Will her memory suddenly go blank or something? lol. I mean is there any harm in saying that? He’s not mentioning anything from their past or his past that would make you think there’d be a problem with him saying this. Is he just afraid to say it cause of what they’re going up against they might die three times over? Or just being a cheeky street rat ;)
    Anyone have an opinion?

Just don’t see this working out for him exactly how he wants. Hope it does because Sunny being forgotten has for sure run its course. Cool at first but time to end hopefully lol.

Also hope this ends with Asterion dead. Do not want everyone going into a 5th nightmare together. The group are going to ascend on their own. So while the cohort is about to kill/trap Asterion for good, he does what he doesn’t want to do, and dives into the 5th nightmare. The crew with not much choice dives in after him, or they could hope he dies I dunno,…including Mordret for whatever reason. Even tho I think he’d rather just stay lol.

That brings up another question I have. How do they know if a nightmare seed is for the first through 6th or 7th nightmare? Also is there more than one of each? Obviously more of the first seeds but is there only one seed to a 5th nightmare or are there multiple seeds with different 5th level nightmares. Anyone know?
