      I’d recommend just going back and reading the last 50 chapters or so. A lot of the Backlund stuff got omitted from the anime, besides Susie talking.

      Alger wanted help finding the pirate admiral, in exchange he’d provide the last ingredient she needed for her to make her sequence 8 potion. An endocrine gland from a very rare marine animal. He knows a primitive island of fantastic beasts though so he can get it. Pirate admiral was sequence 6 with an artifact that lets him be as strong as a sequence 5 or 4.

      Aubrey infiltrated a beyonder society with the help of her friend, glaint, some other noble kid who loves the occult (like Melissa’s friends from the birthday party) He introduced her to two beyonders of sequence 9 (an apprentice and an arbiter). They investigated on her behalf and hired subcontractors to help look into things too. Pirate noticed he was being investigated and took action.

      Pirate has a magic item that lets him take souls and utilize their beyonder powers (aizek mentions it in the animation actually, either implies or outright states that it’s a creation of his own). (It’s also mentioned it’s basically a secret suppliant pathway, sequence 5 shepherd ability, only real shepherds can take more souls and swap between em faster). He kills and impersonates a poor baron to get access to a high society party, to assassinate a Duke as part of a commission he took (he wants to become the 5th pirate king and the notoriety would help). Except Aubrey goes wait this guy used to be nervous, never making eye contact, and he always put his cologne on in a very specific pattern (3 hours before a party so the strong notes can dissipate). Except the baron now is confidently making eye contact and smells of freshly applied cologne. She lets the party security know, and prays to the fool to let him know. Klein then plays a mosaic video recording of her praying to Alger so he knows where the pirate admiral is. Then he also blows the death whistle and tells aizek via letter. Party security stops pirate’s assassination attempt, he flees before Alger and the steampunk police (machinery Hivemind) can arrive. Only to run into aizek like 2 blocks away, who murks him easily and takes the magic toy away (which helps him remember more of his own shit). Aubrey and Alger realize it was the fool’s follower who did it, and praise the fool.

      Of course, the hivemind and nighthawks of Backlund are now very concerned about the mystery beyonder who was able to kill the pirate admiral and then dip without being noticed. Aubrey gets a new beyonder bodyguard to avoid retaliation by pirate’s allies since it’s entirely on her that he got discovered. And Alger is caught up in the investigations. So they both pray to let the fool know they’ll be unable to attend the next tarot club meeting, so he tells the sun guy meeting cancelled this week

      Oh yeah you also missed everything about Derrick. He’s from the forsaken land of the gods, which is maybe in the south continent. Awful curse on the land where he had to kill his own parents to prevent them from rising as evil spirits, which is the norm in the land, ever since they’ve been cursed by the omnipotent omniscient god. (Which is not a description anybody else had used beforehand, even when talking about the original creator). They just call it the silver city, and they’ve never seen the sky or sunlight. Permanent dark Cloud cover with heavy lightning storms that abate for a time regularly. (Day and night are lightning and no lightning times. Possibly not a 24 hour clock). Monsters in the dark are a big threat. beyonder knowledge taught in school. Tons of other stuff you missed out on.
