Chapter 2763: Endless Growth

‘He's insane. He's actually unwell...’

That was the only thing Sunny could think of as he regarded Asterion with a frozen expression.

But no... Sunny had already established that the Dreamspawn was of sound mind. It was just that nothing about the way he saw the world was within the bounds of what humans would consider normal, while his thinking process was completely free of all preconceptions that most people shared. After all, why would Asterion not want to devour humanity, the Forgotten God, the entire world, and the everlasting Void on top of that?

The notion was no more preposterous than a random orphan from the outskirts of NQSC becoming an immortal demigod who commanded a legion of dead souls and ruled half of humanity. To someone who did not know Sunny very well, his strange story would sound like the ravings of a madman. Just like Asterion's confession had sounded just now.

'He truly is a worthy heir of Heart God.'

The god of growth and hunger.

Asterion was more or less a flawless embodiment of insatiable hunger and unending growth. Nothing could ever satiate him, because his endless growth would always demand more fuel. So... in a sense, it was only natural that his ambitions went far beyond what Sunny and Nephis dared to want to achieve.

‘Hell...’

Just what had those damn Path of Ascension zealots done to raise Asterion into the eerie creature he was today? Was it their fault that he had turned out this way? Or had his mind become twisted as a result of their isolated colony in the Dream Realm being annihilated, instead?

No one knew much about the fate of that mysterious group. It had always been dismissively described as a fringe cult, but really, those supposed zealots were quite exceptional in their own way.

They had been some of the first Masters of humanity, just like Immortal Flame, Warden of Valor, and Nightwalker... one of them had claimed the Lineage of Heart God, as well. It was just that their beliefs clashed with the emerging Legacy hierarchy, so they decided to abandon the waking world entirely instead of being pushed out. That was how Asterion came to be born in the Dream Realm.

Their Citadel had fallen at some point, though, leaving him the only survivor. Come to think of it, Sunny did not know the details of how the Path of Ascension cult had been destroyed... however, there could have been only a few possible causes.

The most probable cause was that their settlement had been overrun by Nightmare Creatures. Alternatively... it could have been attacked by humans, instead. It was an established fact that the Legacy regime had been born in bloodshed, after all, having eradicated all other rising factions.

Would they have really left a fringe group like the Path of Ascension cult to develop in peace?

Looking at Asterion now, Sunny realized that there was a third possible cause.

The Dreamspawn could have slaughtered the Path of Ascension zealots himself. Considering his current disposition, it was not difficult to imagine that he would have began on his journey of endless growth by consuming the very group that had created him.

There was no way to know.

Sunny exhaled slowly.

‘He wants to devour the Void, huh’

In short, Asterion wanted to become equal to the seven great gods and declare war on the Void, as well as on the harrowing creatures that dwelled within it... just like the gods had done once. In a sense, that war had never ended, so he would resume where the gods had left off — after inheriting their legacy.

No wonder he was hunting down all the Divine Lineages.

‘No, wait..."

Sunny suddenly felt a little dazed.

The gods had not been able to destroy the Void, they had only been able to seal it. But Asterion was not planning to succeed where they had failed by relying on the same amount of power.

He was planning to attain power greater even than what the gods had wielded.

After all, if he really did manage to consume all humans, all Nightmare Creatures, the Forgotten God, and existence itself...

Then he would not simply become equal to one of the great gods. No, he would unite that which had been scattered all along... he would contain within himself all of the Flame of Desire.

So, he would become as powerful as the source that had given birth to the gods, not the gods themselves.

Seen in that light, his ambition to devour the Void suddenly did not seem quite as baseless.

‘He's still mad, though.'

Sunny sighed.

"Do you suppose that we will just let you gobble up humanity?"

Asterion turned and looked at Sunny silently for a few moments.

Then, he asked in a pleasant tone:

“But what can you even do?"

Chuckling quietly, Asterion looked away. "You can't kill me. You can't seal me, either — because to do so, you'll have to sacrifice the lives of the very same humans you want to protect from me"

The sound of his voice was almost compassionate.

"Ah, but of course, by sparing them, you are only ensuring that I will get them all, eventually. Goodness gracious, I really do not envy you. You really are in a tight spot... it's almost like the whole situation has been designed by someone to trap you."

He grinned.

Looking at that grin, Nephis said in a calm tone:

"Do you really think that I will not burn all of Bastion down just to end you?"

A cold smile twisted her lips, as well.

“Do you think that there is anywhere in this world — in all worlds — that you can escape to if I decide to find you?"

She looked at him evenly.

"Go on, provoke me more. Let's see which one of us is ready to make sacrifices.’ Asterion remained silent... and Sunny did as well.

At that moment, even he did not really know if she was bluffing.

Eventually, Nephis shook her head.

“Your arrogance is impressive, but your bluff is too simple to call. You try to pretend that neither of us poses any danger to you, and yet you spent years doing nothing but hiding. You even felt so threatened by a mere Saint as to ambush her — most pitifully of all, your ambush failed."

She frowned.

“Countless humans have been infected by the idea of you already, but how many have you been able to make your thralls? The Human Domain stands strong, and all your efforts to shake its foundations have amounted to nothing. Yes, you are devious and dangerous... but do you really think that you can win?"

Sunny was not sure if that confidence was a bluff, either.

Asterion stared silently at her for a long while, as if unwilling to answer.

Then, suddenly, he grinned.

“Alright, it seems that you really are unwilling to make a deal with me. So, then... how about a bet, instead?"

So is the "final" enemy forgotten god or the void? Is void just a place or are there beings there and if so they have to be stronger then the forgotten god, since they became forgotten god by being sealed into the void.

This bum genuinely thinks he is him not even the gods can resist corruption im pretty sure this is why weaver made it so that its this specific cycle its because nephis is probably the only one who can defeat the forgotten god she is immune to the corruption after all

It would be really ironic if Sunny gives Asterion his blood so he gets the lineage of Weaver... and I doubt Weaver's lineage would acknoledge him, which would, i think, kill him... the hunger to gain all the lineages would kill him

The best shot at killing him is through VTB just like it stole Sunny's fate and made him be forgotten. Or else if somehow Cassie attains supremacy and get some ability that allowed her to directly ulter memories

But for that to happen, everyone would need to know about Asterion, so they'd then forget about him. Otherwise, for those who don't know, this will be the first encounter they'll remember. Plus, it's not a given that erasing Asterion from memory will kill him, and the only one who has a chance of not forgetting him is Sunny, because he's already beyond fate and might not be affected if another thread is pulled from the tapestry.

It’s only a matter of time until everyone knows his name anyways. All of Bastion knows, after all, and they’ll spread it worldwide within weeks. Sunny just has to yoink his fate with a shade or shadow of VTB or use Weaver’s Mask, then kill his physical body, have Cassie wipe the name from his mind, and then wipe his name from her own. Ez.

The mad prince created the key of the mouth, which did not allow the sin of consolation to pervert Sunny. So why can't Sunny make memories that don't allow the wearer to perceive the idea of Asterion? At least give them to the shadow clan and a few important people in the world. After all, with 7 bodies, he could implement such a thing pretty quickly. Yes, each incarnation does its own thing, but Aster is not an opponent that can be targeted by just one incarnation.
By the way, when I say "pretty fast," I'm talking about months.

      1. No idea if was still stuck on the moon or not
      2. No idea how to seal a specific word without removing the memory entirely
      3. IF possible, he'd have to supple the entire human domain and that'll take years and set back the other projects he was working on IF he used all his incarnations for the task

      4. the key of the mouth was probably the result of countless iterations of the mad prince working on it as he literally timed its own destruction in order to pass the gate keeper of the vile thieving bird and give the sin of consolation the chance to corrupt Sunny and bring himself back from personality death
      5. IF he could make such an item Cassia wouldn't be running herself drag cursing the infected people now would she?
      6.HE can't spent so much time working on such a memory;

      A. Earth's being eaten
      B. Topography, nightmare creatures migration and influx of souls have to survive somewhere safe before the worlds consumed n sguff

I'm unhappy that the main sorcerer in the world does nothing but enchant citadels and that's it. Yes, he made a lot of memories for the shadow clan, but that was behind the scenes. He took the attitude not to make memories in order to prepare himself for becoming a god, and, they say, that's why he doesn't make memories for various purposes.

I'd argue he did more than expected!

          (Fan Rant)

Anvil of Valor is still manifested working tirelessly to provide the Human Domain with quality equipment- he's never dismissed as Anvil is without a doubt the current Number One Blacksmith.

Sunny ain't just the "main sorcerer" he's the ONLY ONE OF RELEVANCE! While the other baboons are still relying on the Spell to supply themselves he's out there making auxiliary items. The Shadow Chair was made as a flex and it continues to be so. He's just enchanting citadals?

In the first place Humanity shouldn't even be fightiNG THEMSELVES??? LIKE BRO WE'RE FACING ANNIHILATION And we got people purposely holding us back, dividing/slowing the world down cause they couldn't accept someone has to go under(subordinate) for the whole species to rise. Like how stupid was Anvil and Ki Song? Even WHEN we got their reasons it still looked stupid.

And now we got a guy who's just gonna eat all of us cause he can't recognize his identity....? Asterion was raised by humans and he's saying; "i wAs BoRn BetWeEn woLrds A nD as SuCh!!! I'm EnTitled to everything." Fu#king sorry ass was carried in the womb for 9 months and fed for who knows how many years after and he dead ass probably ate his mother, father, community and now gonna eat anyone who speaks his name.

And Mordret could probably do the same thing. Who even knows what that camper who hid at the first sign of trouble is doing rn?

....if you read this long CHEERIO and Sunny's done a lot with everything considered; Weavers lineage, helping his friends, helping humanity and still looking after his sister

He's a bit autistic but he means well! I love that midget~

I think the way to end Asterion is quite simple, but not easy

Sunny has to kill the Vile Thieving Bird, then use it's Shadow to take away Asterion's Fate; this should lead to the world forgetting he ever existed.

Then, they can simply kill his mortal body, and it's all done

    lmk if I missed something

Only issue is that vtb is a cursed terror iirc…

That and leaving to not only find the tomb of ariel but also kill vtb with the help of humanity’s only other supreme is the same as passing asterion a meal ticket

Time in the Tomb of Ariel moves differently so I'd say they only need to distract or keep Asterion occupied just long enough for them to go and return

This could be done before or after they've become Gods

Its not like the vtb could hust snatch anyone's fate. If that was possible then weaver would have broken fate eons ago by just snatching his own fate. One of the reasons it worked on sunny was becaus he was weak. He was merely an ascendent, while asterion is a supreme. More than that, if sunny got to kill the vtb, he would have to be at least a Shadoe, instead of a shade. Because if it is already unlikely that the VTB could rob his fate as a cursed terror, it sure as hell would be almost unthinkable for him to do that without any will

If you think about it, it's not just the villains.

They are all immortal with different triggers.

To kill Asterion, you have to erase everything you can remember about him.

To kill Mordret, you need to kill his flaw.

For Sunny, you have to kill his 7 shadows.

Nephís is the only one without clear limits.

To kill Nephis, you would need to kill the source of her dominion, just like that cursed demon Sunny tried to do when she imprisoned him.

At their level, individual strength doesn't mean much.
