Chapter 409: Dialugia, Juliana (3) |
I told myself desperately to ignore her
‘I knew she was crazy, but…’
As the battle went on, I realized that Juliena was crazier than I thought, but from her point of view, I could see why she was so angry. Her reunion with her lover only lasted for a moment when an unknown demon kidnapped and locked her lover up. Seeing that the two already had a sad ending, it made sense for her to be so angry. My heart broke when I heard their sad story, but I still had to get away from here because of her eerie behavior.
- Curse! I’ll curse you! Curse! I’ll drag your corpses all over the continent. You’ll experience the most miserable death and ending so that you’ll feel suffer even in the afterlife, you scum! You dirty scums! I’ll step on your corpses and make sure everyone related to all of you will fall into the fiery pits of hell and be in pain forever!
The black smoke immediately enveloped the enemy soldiers. They kept casting a purification spell, but controlling Juliena’s curse with holy power was impossible. Juliena’s skill wouldn’t affect the target that quickly, but Juliena was still influential on the battlefield.
“Stay away! Don’t come any closer! Shit! Don’t come closer!”
“Aaaahhhh!”
“Stop her! Don’t let her come any closer! Mother, mother!”
“S-Save me… Run! Run away! We’ll all die! We’re all going to die!”
“Don’t come!”
- You deserve the pain! Kyahaha! You’re like bugs! You wicked humans! Die! Die! Die! Dieee!
The tentacles that spread out from her in all directions easily pierced the enemy soldiers’ armor. However, those who got stabbed by the tentacles didn’t die outright. When I saw how they were making all kinds of noises while trembling, I couldn’t help but think that they were being influenced by a curse. Juliena’s tentacles mutilated a few of the enemy soldiers’ corpses, and she even started hitting them with the hilt of her sword. As the battle progressed, the enemy soldiers afflicted with her curse started screaming amidst the chaos. Fear was natural in humans, and even I didn’t want to be here right now.
As such, I immediately started walking away. The allied soldiers looked at Juliena with disgust, and I felt bad, so I had no choice but to say something.
“I-it’s dangerous. I-It seems like the seal I had been suppressing was broken.”
“Ah…”
Of course, it was bullshit, but I had to insist. I had no idea just who am I talking with, but I felt relieved to see the soldiers nodding.
‘This is why your usual demeanor is important.’
“I-I see, Father Lee Ki-Young. Then, that’s…”
“I think it’s best if you follow the road and join the main forces for now,” I suggested.
“What about you…?” they asked.
“I’ll head there first,” I replied.
“How—Ah, I see. Okay.”
They widened their eyes for a moment, but they nodded when they saw Dialugia.
I started walking as well, and the nearby soldiers protecting me were nervous that something would happen, but this was currently the safest place because the enemy soldiers were focused on Juliena. My desire to fight alongside Juliena was strong since she was fighting by herself, but I couldn’t do that. Of course, it definitely wasn’t because I didn’t want to be in the same space as her. I just had my own business to handle, so this was beyond my control.
- Gedric! Gedriiiiiic!
Juliena had to have realized that I was moving away because I heard a hair-raising sound. Her voice sounded like the noise a blackboard would give if you scratched it. She seemed like she wanted to hurry up and come to me, but the enemies around her were holding her back. It seemed that the Juliena raid was about to start.
- Gedric! How dare you! All of you! My Gedric! Move this instant! You’re lower than bugs!
“Surround her!”
“Be careful not to get influenced by her curse. Vanguards, protect the front!”
“Don’t get wounded by her sword! Keep your distance and attack her from a distance. Maintain the purification magic!”
The strange fight that was taking place in the center of the battlefield could be a spectacle for some people.
- Move! Move already!
“Aaaahhh!”
“Shit!”
- The curse will fall upon you! The curse! Everyone who gets in between Gedric and me will get cursed and die a miserable death!
“Cough!”
- Ahh! Gedric! Don’t worry! My Gedric! Wait for me just a little longer! Your small baby bird will find you soon!
With how she looked, there was no way she was a small baby bird.
Cold sweat started rolling down, but I did my best to look away. When I ran as fast as I could to get away from that unknown creature, I saw Dialugia lowering her head so that I could ride her.
“...”
- Okay, okay, I got it.
I grabbed Dialugia’s horn tightly, and Dialugia flew upward as the soldiers below us started to get smaller and smaller. They looked touched. I wasn’t sure if this was the right description, but the allied soldiers were looking at me as if I was the protagonist of a fairy tale.
I nodded lightly and expressed my respect to them using the knight’s way. I felt like I was receiving a memorial of the heroes, similar to scenes in history books. Being with a dragon was enough to be the subject of public envy, but the individual chosen by the gods was actually riding a dragon.
Seeing them blindly looking at me and expecting me to take care of everything was burdensome, but from their point of view, it was understandable for them to look at me that way. I couldn’t help but think that it was time for me to get used to those gazes.
“I leave it up to you, Father Lee Ki-Young.”
“Thank you, everyone.”
After the short goodbye, Dialugia flew toward the center of the battlefield, where arrows and spells incessantly rained down on the soldiers below. After acting kind of cool, I tapped Dialugia’s horn and spoke. I had to maintain my image, after all.
“Let’s go, Dialugia.”
- I’m not used to the sky.
“I’m sure it’s better than being on land because a task unit assigned to fight you is probably heading this way, so there’s no reason for us to stay. And flap your wings once before flying and howl loudly so that everyone will look at you.”
- I’m not some attraction for people to look at. Even in this kind of situation, you—
“I’m not telling you to act like a clown, and I have no intention of putting on a show. This is to boost their morale. You saw it yourself during the holy democratic revolution. You have already become a symbol. Just imagine that you’re showing your beauty to them by striking a pose or something.”
- I’m not really into it, but…
“This battle will go down in history, and I’m sure the people will talk about you and me. As the human who has been chosen by a dragon. We’ll appear in the history book Dialuria will eventually read. The Alchemist of Light and his wife resisted the demon army! Don’t you think you should maintain the balance since you’re one of the few dragons remaining on this continent?”
- Are they really the demon army?
“Of course, and who cares if they’re not the demon army? History will side with the victors. Of course, that doesn’t mean I’m denying the fact that they’re an army of darkness. Their leader is definitely the one who summoned the demon lord in Laios. Demon Summoner Jin Cheong. He’s the one who caused all of this.”
- …
“I’m telling the truth. Now, let’s hurry and become exemplary parents whom Smartie will respect. Our Dialuria will be respected by humans as well. I’m sure of it.”
- …
I didn’t hear Dialugia’s answer, but it was easy to deduce her answer. The way she lifted her head and roared out loud would make anyone raise their thumbs, and regardless of whose side they were on, the soldiers looked at Dialugia and me. After flying into the sky as if she was jumping, many spells started flying up to hit her, but Dialugia wasn’t slow enough to get hit by those attacks. I was sure that some of those spells were dangerous, but seeing her dodge the attacks by moving left and right made her look like the god of aerial combat.
I was riding her, so it felt like I was in a 4DX cinema. The wind blowing into my face made it difficult for me to breathe, so when I talked to her with my mind to tell her to slow down, I heard her speak.
“You must avoid the blue things. I’m sure those spells were created just for you. They look like some sort of binding magic, so you’ll fall if one of those managed to hit you.”
- I don’t know much, but that makes sense if we consider the amount of mana they used for those spells.
‘It’s just a glorified basic binding magic…”
- I’m sure I’ll be able to resist it, then. By the way, hold on tight so you won’t fall.
There were large blue translucent ropes flying after Dialugia. In response, I hurled a Dragon Breath Potion at the blue ropes, and they exploded with a loud noise. However, there was a spell that kept on chasing after her, and it looked difficult to dodge as well.
I was sure that Dialugia thought the same because she directly interrupted the spells with huge amounts of mana in them as well as the spells she couldn’t dodge. She was just dodging, but I was sure she was starting to annoy the enemy leaders.
We weren’t damaging them directly, but I was sure we were doing some kind of damage because they had to create a task force as well as do some research on spells just to counter Dialugia.
‘I wonder where our Hyun-Sung is...’
I continued looking for him, but I couldn’t see him. Obviously, it wouldn’t be easy to find him because I was riding Dialugia, who was flying downward at breakneck speeds. I tried looking for him whenever we were in a lull in mid-air, but the battlefield was huge, so I couldn’t check every single corner.
However, I was relieved when I couldn’t see the mage detachment we had been targeting earlier, and since they were gone. It seemed like I had been worried for nothing.
‘I’m sure he’s safe.’
If Kim Hyun-Sung could see us, I was sure he was moving toward the main unit, and since the allied forces finally had some room to breathe, I was sure that he would be able to retreat.
All of a sudden, I could feel a tremendous amount of mana from above—no, it was more like immense pressure was boring down on us.
‘What’s that?’
There was a large meteor falling from the sky.
“Crazy…”
The large meteor was falling toward our main forces clumped together in the middle of the battlefield.
“It sure is awesome. Seriously, Jin Cheong. You scummy bastard…!”
