Chapter 397: Regressor Instruction Manual (3)

‘Is this happening? Is this… really happening?’

I[1]couldn’t help but be doubtful. Honestly, I was uncomfortable when I heard about it. It was all because I knew that it was almost impossible to give effective orders on the battlefield, especially when variables could always pop up. The situation on the battlefield would change every minute, and incidents outside the commander’s calculations often occurred in the middle of a chaotic battlefield.

For example, a change could occur at Point A, which would make enemy troops move to a different location. In addition, there could also be arrows and spells bombarding the given coordinates. I knew the concept of moving soldiers by detachments and setting them up in large battles, but I had never heard about making one person do all those, which was why I was uncomfortable with the idea.

The goddess’ mirror was making sure that I would always have a larger view of the battlefield, but there was still a delay, which I didn’t really like. However, as time went on, I couldn’t help but acknowledge the fact that things were going better than I had expected as I completed my objectives.

‘This doesn’t make sense.’

Setting up a route or giving out coordinates was understandable because the command center could request backup for the allied forces that needed backup. However, giving objectives and making sure that the details were accurate was different.

There was a limit to how much a person’s eyes could see, and there was also a limit to how much information their brain could quickly process.

I couldn’t see everything, and I had limited time to organize the information I was receiving.

If my reaction time were slow, then I would say that I wasn’t suitable for this kind of job. However, the fact that even I was having a bit of trouble reacting meant that it was pretty much impossible for ordinary people.

‘My eyes are kind of special, Mr. Hyun-Sung.’

This could be a glimpse of what Lee Ki-Young had said to me before. The powerhouses and tacticians I knew would never be able to do something like this.

It was only natural for people to evaluate each other differently the more time they spent with each other. At first, I simply thought that he was pretty useful. But now, the person who didn’t particularly strike me as someone special had become someone indispensable to me. He had become a friend and a brother who was also helping me lead other people.

I couldn’t help but think about just how I missed a genius like him in my past life, and I nodded after I confirmed once more that swinging my sword to save him in the tutorial dungeon was the best decision I had ever made in my second life.

‘There’s an enemy.’

I saw archers pulling back their bowstrings in front of me, but I didn’t move because I knew I would soon receive an instruction. As expected, I quickly received an instruction.

- Point C, 321.12.

“Confirmed.”

The barrier was thick, but…

‘I can break through it.’

There was a large-framed man standing in front of me. He was wielding an axe paired with a large shield. He started swinging at me, so I responded with a swing of my own and felt something unpleasant as blood started flowing out of the large-framed man.

I kept on moving. I didn’t want to give the large-framed man a chance to rest. While all this was happening, I kept on receiving instructions, and I kept on responding to them. I couldn’t help but feel like Lee Ki-Young was right next to me as he kept on giving me instructions. I was sure he was more reliable than a comrade watching my back.

‘The buff is about to expire.’

- Point C, 321.69

“Confirmed.”

As soon as I reached my destination, holy power started pouring down on me. The priest pouring holy power down on me stared agape at the scene. The priest received nothing but an order to send out their holy power toward a certain location at a certain time, and I was sure that they had no idea where I was located before I arrived here.

‘I understand how that priest feels.’

The other allies felt the same. It was so ridiculous they had never imagined it was possible. The battlefield turned into a stage made for me. I didn’t have to worry about anything else other than wiping the enemies out and reaching my destination. To be honest, I didn’t have the luxury of thinking about the arrows and spells falling toward me from the skies. I didn’t really have to think about them because I knew my allies would protect me at the right time.

Booom!

A large screen manifested in mid-air, blocking enemy spells. The caster—an allied mage—looked at me in shock. A few minutes ago, they received a ridiculous order to channel and prepare a defensive spell and to cast it at a certain time.

They followed the order to the letter, and they had just witnessed the results of that seemingly absurd order.

‘He’s… reading the battlefield.’

It was the best way to describe it.

The wounds I sustained were healing, and the buff on me seemed like it would last forever. Whenever I moved to a designated point, I would receive a buff from a holy priest, and whenever I stumbled upon a fortified location, a spell would shatter the enemies’ defenses, opening a path for me. It was the same for the warriors helping me push the enemies back. While the allied forces were pushing the enemies back, an opening would randomly appear, catching the enemies off guard.

I was thrilled. I didn’t particularly like to fight, but I had a partner I was in harmony with, so I was enjoying the fight.

“Die! You monster! Cough!

An enemy soldier yelled before collapsing, and I heard an ally’s voice afterward.

“Behind you, Mr. Hyun-Sung!”

I heard them, but I didn’t pay attention to them because I already knew what would happen. As expected, I heard a loud scream. I looked back and saw an enemy falling backward with an arrow lodged in their forehead. I was sure that everyone around me felt the same as me. At first glance, the orders were seemingly random, but the allied forces were actually connected systematically, similar to a spider web.

- Move to the next location.

“Confirmed.”

- Next.

“Confirmed.”

- You can slow down. Pay attention to your stamina.

“Confirmed.”

‘He’s a genius.’

I couldn’t help but think that way.

Cough!

“You crazy monster! Die! Stop him! Stop him from coming up here!”

“Use all your magic and arrows! We just need to hit him once! Just once!”

“But…!”

“Shut up and pull! Stop that bastard from coming—Cough!

- Well done.

“It was nothing.”

I took a moment to compose myself, and while I was doing that, the priests poured holy power down on me again, and my current buffs were refreshed. I turned around and saw a ridiculous sight.

I had been growing a lot in this second life of mine, but even in my past life, where I almost reached the limits of my potential, I had never been in a war that was as satisfying as this. Honestly, this couldn’t be considered war anymore. If the battles I had fought in my past life were considered off-road, unpaved beaten paths, then this battle could be considered riding a luxurious sedan on a smooth, paved road.

I had grown enough to match the mana and stamina I possessed in my previous life, but I was fighting a battle that was markedly different from the battles I had ever participated in so far. As such, I couldn’t help but clench my fists.

‘I think I can fight all day.’

Of course, fighting all day was just an exaggeration on my part, but I had a feeling that it might be possible here.

- Careful. At your twelve o’clock.

“Affirmative.”

I got distracted, but his voice awakened me from my stupor. I immediately reacted and saw a spear that looked incredibly similar to earlier. It was definitely the same spear that flew toward Mr. Lee Ki-Young earlier. I blocked it with my sword, and it immediately shattered with a loud noise, sending glass-like fragments into the wind.

- I’ll give you the exact coordinates. It seems like the caster chose you as their target.

“All right, I’ll go check.”

- Go.

“Okay.”

The moment I decided to move, a spear was flying toward me again, so I immediately moved toward the coordinates I had just received.

A loud explosion echoed afterward, the spear struck the place where the enemy soldiers were located, and they collapsed to the ground upon impact.

Ah!

I had no idea whether they wanted to block or dodge the spear earlier, but I had no time to think about it nor look around because the next attack was already flying toward me.

‘I’ll block it.’

I swung my sword.

Clang!

‘Block it.’

Clang!

‘Dodge it.’

Boom!

‘Block it.’

Clang!

It was difficult to move in such a crowded place, but the allied forces continued to make a path for me. The command center delivered precise instructions to the safe and fastest route that I could take. We still had no idea who was hurling spears at us, but I was sure the command center was trying its best to track them down.

A glass spear nicked my shoulder.

‘It’s fine.’

I was hurt, but the wound wasn’t deep.

‘Focus.’

Another spear came flying, and I blocked it again.

Clang! Clang! Booooom!

I naturally mustered as much power as I could. My surroundings were a mess, but it was all because of my long-ranged opponent. Unfortunately for them, I was getting closer and closer to my destination, and I kept on moving while dealing as much damage as I could to them.

At this point, I was sure that my spear-throwing opponent finally noticed that I was getting closer.

- We’ll be moving a bit faster.

“Affirmative.”

Mr. Lee Ki-Young told me to move faster because my spear-throwing opponent had started moving. The incessant flying spears finally stopped. The battlefield kept on changing, so the coordinates I was receiving kept on changing as well. However, I knew that I would eventually catch my spear-throwing opponent.

The battle would become a bit difficult for me if I exhausted myself by moving so fast for an extended period of time, but there was no way that I would get exhausted if I only had to worry about my spear-throwing opponent. I didn’t have to worry about other attacks, and when it came to the flying spears, the command center could already see where they were coming from.

In fact, the command center was even telling me where the flying spears would land.

“Tie it! Tie it as tight as you can! Until we can get some distance—Ahhh!

“T-this crazy bastard…!”

“Tie it as… Cough!

I gathered mana beneath my feet and kicked off of the ground as hard as I could, which immediately sent me flying into the air. While I was in mid-air, I saw a man staring at me in disbelief. However, he reacted quickly and hurled a spear toward me.

“You bastard! Die!”

- You don’t have to dodge it.

“Affirmative.”

If I dodged the flying spear, I would just be giving my opponent an opening. I had to take advantage of this opportunity and eliminate my spear-throwing opponent before he could escape and disappear into the crowd. I was kind of nervous, but I bit my lips.

I swung my sword rather than dodging the flying spear, and the man’s eyes widened.

“You crazy bastard…!”

Clang!

There was a loud noise, and I suddenly found myself shining. I definitely didn’t dodge the attack just now, so I instinctively looked to the side and saw Park Deok-Gu getting hurt in my place. I was sure he cast his attribute on me and took damage in my stead.

‘I can’t figure out his limits.’

Goosebumps broke all over my back.
