Chapter 1409: Born with a divine spoon

Liam’s pulse raced as he fixated on the anomaly—a lone structure that defied the surrounding chaos. Unlike the battered, collapsing edifice around him, this edifice stood firm, its polished metal and etched runes glowing softly in the distance. It was as if a protective calm had been woven into it, an invitation amid the destruction.

Surely, this had to be the room where the treasure was. Nothing else would explain what was going on. The question was whether he should risk everything and claim the treasure or if he should simply take the easy exit.

Liam had already started running forward towards the mysterious room. Of course, he had to take it. There was simply no other option.

A golden event that had brought out divine temple participants and some mysterious elemental king definitely had something good to give. He was not about to pass up such a good item.

Liam made a last-ditch effort to reach the isolated space, ignoring everything else. The good thing was that he did not have to work hard to block any attacks anymore.

Everywhere around him, there were spatial tears. Everything around him was getting sucked into the void. The explosions couldn’t even reach him anymore. The void was taking care of everything for him.

However, escaping that void was the biggest headache he had at the moment. Thankfully, Liam had something he could actually use. The movement technique from the assassin class awakener from earlier.

He only had a rudimentary understanding of it and had never practised it before, but he had absorbed all the information from the soul when he had processed it. He should be able to do it.

Liam dashed forward, his footwork suddenly becoming a blur of precision and agility. He weaved through the chaos with uncanny grace, each step a calculated evasion of the gaping spatial tears that threatened to swallow everything in their wake.

The void’s pull was relentless, but Liam moved as if time had slowed for him alone, every nimble pivot and decisive leap drawing him closer to the luminous anomaly. Electricity crackled around it, protecting it from stray spatial explosions.

However, it was clear that it wouldn’t be able to hold out for long. Maybe a few seconds at best. Liam frowned. Would he be able to reach it? He was able to move through the chaos using the new footwork, but his speed was simply not enough to get there.

Just as he was thinking about it, another figure appeared in the vicinity. The Elemental King!

Liam’s eyes widened in shock. This guy was still here. Just how powerful was this being? The entire building wanted to take him out, and he came out on top? The whole world was collapsing because of him, and yet here he was, totally indifferent to everything.

Liam was no longer confident. There was a thin line between confidence and overconfidence, and he felt as if he was about to cross it. He definitely did not want to face this madman.

The myriad realms were vast, and he did not dare think that he could stand toe-to-toe with the strongest. Many beings were born with a divine spoon and were strong even before they stepped out of their mothers’ wombs. It would be stupid to rush blindly into a fight with someone like this. He had already gotten the cauldron. Perhaps it was time to run after all.

Though Liam was taking stock of the situation, the other party did not seem to care at all.

The Elemental King did not care about Liam or about the spatial tears popping out everywhere. In his eyes, only the treasure room was there. He calmly moved through the tears as if he were taking a stroll in the park. He casually dodged tears left and right, not in the least anxious or nervous.

Liam clenched his fists. Was this the pride and power that came from being born as one of the superior races of the myriad realms? Snapping him out of his thoughts, a loud boom rang out.

Liam snapped to look at the treasure room when he saw that a huge spatial tear had finally wreaked that single room as well. One wall of the room was completely decimated, and now a big spatial tear decorated it instead.

This made entering the space so much complicated. Not just that, but the entire structure was seconds away from collapsing completely.

Liam’s heart raced, and his eyes filled with madness. The Elemental King still remained indifferent to everything as if he was a God above all of this. Was this it? Was this the difference he would never be able to bridge? Liam refused to accept it.

He gritted his teeth as he suddenly had an idea. Sure, he learned a footwork that would help him tremendously in this situation, but then again, he was at best an amateur at it. Why use an amateur to do the job when he could get an expert to do it?

He summoned the newest soul he had forged, which was none other than the assassin. He then sent the soul forward, ordering it to get to the treasure room.

"Work, damn it." Liam was almost activating his exit token just in case the Elemental King decided to wipe him out because of this. But even so, he watched in awe as his minion wonderfully obeyed his orders.

The soul minion skillfully weaved through the chaos, its ethereal form a flickering shadow against the backdrop of collapsing reality. It darted between the gaping spatial tears and errant explosions, its every movement calculated to avoid the void’s ravenous pull.

Drawing closer to the treasure room, the minion focused on the singular beacon of divine light that still pulsed from within the damaged edifice.

Before it lay a once-hallowed chamber now marred by a massive spatial tear—a jagged scar where reality itself had splintered.

The tear twisted the room’s wall into a chaotic fracture, threatening to obliterate the sanctuary in mere seconds. Yet, the assassin soul advanced undeterred, gliding past the edge of destruction as if dancing on the brink of oblivion.

And then it actually succeeded in entering the god damn room!

The soul minion stood right in front of the treasure!

Chapter 1408: Going, going and gone?

Liam gritted his teeth and unleashed everything he had at the paladin. However, the drop of golden liquid he used was way too powerful to deal with. It was as if the thing affected time itself.

Liam couldn't breathe. He couldn't think. His dao fields were all crumbling one after the other. He was only barely holding on. However, right at this critical moment, the cauldron on his chest pulsed.

"The other side is using a divine treasure. It's only fair that you used yours too." The familiar arrogant voice sounded in his mind, and the next second, a strong suction force erupted from the cauldron.

Broken pieces of metal chunks, smoke, debris, and all sorts of things started flying into the cauldron. Shockingly, this was followed by the paladin.

Liam's eyes widened in shock as he watched the cauldron actually suck the man inside. He blinked twice as he couldn't believe it but it was very real.

Everything around him was intact, except the paladin was now missing.

Liam wanted to ask the cauldron senior what exactly had happened, but the glow on the cauldron had already faded. Also, this was not the time or place to worry about this. Everything around him was exploding left and right.

Liam found that he was now able to move. He immediately tried to activate his exit token and get the hell out of there, but he was once again unable to activate it.

What the hell was happening? He lifted his head in panic, and the paladin was still nowhere to be seen. So why was he not able to leave?

    This f#cking golden bubble!

He needed to break this somehow. He took a deep breath and started to fully activate his Dao seeds again, but then he suddenly stopped. He waited a moment and observed. Something was off. The golden bubble was there around him, but it wasn't doing anything at all.

His movements were restricted, and his mana reserves were low, and yet nothing was happening. Not even the explosions were reaching him.

Now that he saw it, the golden bubble was actually protecting him from everything? Liam did a double take as he tried to wrap his mind around this concept. Was this golden bubble actually helping him?

He had no idea how this treasure worked. The paladin took out the liquid and then was sucked into the cauldron. Now, without any direction, the golden liquid ended up helping him.

Liam's lips tugged upward into a smile. This was an unexpected gift. His grin widened as he watched everything around him explode and repair repeatedly. It seemed that the Elemental King was giving the metallic building quite a fight.

Right now, he was simply a silent spectator watching everything go down from the convenience of his golden bubble. Only popcorn was missing.

Liam was amazed as he continued to watch everything for hours and hours. What sort of power did the Elemental King hold to put up such a fight?

The world beyond his shimmering prison continued its relentless cycle of explosion and reconstruction—a maddening dance of creation and destruction. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the explosions slowly started to die down.

The power of the golden bubble was also starting to wear off. It was still protecting him, but he was now able to move freely. Wherever he moved, the bubble moved with him.

With a big grin plastered on his face, he started exploring the metallic ruins. Electricity crackled here and there, and the previously impeccable metallic interior was now covered in soot and smoke and broken parts. There were even huge gaping holes in some places.

The metallic golems no longer popped out. Everything was peaceful. The building finally died?

Liam casually walked forward when, all of a sudden, a dangerous feeling welled up in his heart. He felt as if he was going to face some crisis that was going to determine his life or death. He froze for a moment, wondering what to do, and then it happened.

The next second, a huge explosion rang out. An explosion of epic proportions, something that Liam couldn't comprehend. Everywhere around him, reality started blurring. Spatial tears started showing up left and right.

The metallic structure convulsed violently, its beams and panels buckling as if caught in the grip of some colossal, unseen force. Reality itself seemed to splinter before Liam's eyes, as spatial tears widened into gaping voids that revealed fragments of alternate worlds—a kaleidoscope of chaos and possibility.

Liam's heart pounded as he stood transfixed in the midst of the unfolding apocalypse. The once-familiar metallic corridors now twisted in impossible angles, their surfaces morphing under the raw, untamed energies unleashed by the explosion. At that moment, every instinct screamed at him to flee, and he started running.

He used every bit of power he had left and focused it all on his speed. He did not dare use minor teleportation as it could land smack dab in the middle of the void.

The golden bubble around him was also starting to wear thin. What the hell happened? Did the entire building self-destruct to keep the Elemental King out? There was no sign of that mysterious being as he started to run to safety at top speed.

The ground under him was only barely stable as he ran from one spot to another. He would only just barely move when a spatial tear would appear in the spot. His heart pounded loudly. He had never been in a peril like this. This was what an exploding world felt like?

He ran and ran and ran without stopping until suddenly, the golden barrier around him was only barely visible. His exit token became active yet again, and he was now able to leave this dreadful place.

But just as he was about to activate his exit token and slip away from the crumbling nightmare, Liam's eyes caught sight of an anomaly in the distance. Amidst the chaotic ruins, there was a single structure that stood stable like a lone sentinel—an island of calm amid the storm.
