Chapter 209: Giant Beast Slayer

The Tarbosaurus only noticed the herd of hadrosaurs when it drew close.

It halted, lifting its head to look at the Crowned Eagle circling overhead.

“Bzz—” The hadrosaur nearest to it let out a disgruntled low growl.

The Tarbosaurus glanced over but paid it no mind.

After watching for a moment, it turned and walked away.

The next second, the eagle suddenly dove, raking three claw marks across the Tarbosaurus’s back.

“Roar!” The Tarbosaurus whipped its head around and snapped back, but its bite found nothing.

On the hillside, Qin Ziwu commented, “Hit high on low, strike the dumbass. If you don’t cheater that, how’s it even fun?”

The eagle relied on its aerial advantage to harass the Tarbosaurus again and again.

Watching the Tarbosaurus’s clumsy movements—this colossal predator famous for bursts of power and mobility—yet now showing glaring weaknesses and being toyed with by the eagle, the others silently observed.

The Tarbosaurus gave an irritated low growl. Every time it tried to run, the bird came to bother it; when it turned its head, the bird was overhead again.

Annoying to death!

But it didn’t notice that whenever it moved in a certain direction, the harassment frequency dropped significantly.

So it instinctively started heading that way.

On the hillside, as the Tarbosaurus drew nearer, those who had prior hunting experience grew increasingly composed.

Until it stopped a little over a hundred meters away,

“!!!”

The bowstring fired.

One of the Tarbosaurus’s massive thighs suddenly caved inward, and its body lurched to one side.

Then successive shots hammered into its body like heavy artillery, each blow carrying savage force; the Tarbosaurus’s hide burst open with sprays of blood.

Arteries were torn; torrents of blood gushed out like a turned faucet.

It staggered backward on its knees, nearly collapsing.

The Tarbosaurus twisted its head, let out a low snarl, and bolted in another direction.

Unlike the female Tarbosaurus, this male’s first instinct after being injured was to flee.

But its leg was hurt, it limped and staggered; it didn’t make it a hundred meters before a volley of heavy crossbow bolts came from behind.

One bolt stuck into its rump, another scraped along its spine, cutting a long, narrow gash.

The eagle landed on its back. The Tarbosaurus ignored it and kept running,

a stream of crimson blood staining the oasis grass.

The eagle looked at the wound; a glint of blue flashed in its eyes as a strong airflow was driven into the cut.

The long wound along the back was forced open, tender flesh torn apart, blood spraying everywhere.

The Tarbosaurus shuddered; its back stung as if two invisible hands, one on each side, had peeled its skin and blown cold air into its body.

Its legs weakened, and the Tarbosaurus crashed to the ground with a thunderous fall. Lying there, it turned its head and saw a giant bird, pitch-black with wings dotted in blood, staring back at it from its spine.

“Roar...” it gave a low groan and shut its eyes.

“It’s not dead yet, this guy hasn’t exploded a card.” Qin Ziwen pointed at the motionless Tarbosaurus lying some distance away.

“It’s playing dead,” someone said. “These things are cunning.”

Yuan Ming laughed, “Its close relatives seem birdlike. Some birds play dead when danger comes—turns out they’re family after all.”

Wang Yun’s eyes narrowed, “It’s so badly injured; even if it makes it back, it might not survive. I’m more inclined to think it’s looking for revenge—trying to pull someone down with it when it dies. Guild Leader, make sure the eagle stays careful, don’t let it get near the Tarbosaurus’s head.”

“Back!” Qin Ziwen called to the eagle in the distance.

The eagle turned its head and looked toward its master.

Suddenly, the Tarbosaurus, still feigning death on the ground, exploded up!

Amber pupils burned with savage fury; rows of white teeth steamed as it snapped viciously at the eagle!

The eagle rocked its body; powerful air currents wrapped its wings and it shifted forward through the air, dodging the Tarbosaurus’s final killing bite.

The Tarbosaurus forced a burst of power; its wounds reopened. Watching the eagle fly away, a flash of unwillingness gleamed in its eyes.

Finally, it crashed down with a thunderous final fall.

Dense white light surged forth.

Three cards condensed on its body.

Compared to the last quiet hunt, this time the Tarbosaurus had been hunted in front of one hundred and thirty people.

Everyone clearly witnessed the terrifying destructive power of the vehicle-mounted crossbow.

They were stunned—this was a true mega-killer, a giant beast slayer.

On the hillside, Jiang Shan couldn’t help but remark, “I feel like the tech here isn’t that advanced. Why couldn’t the Alliance make this before?”

A man in his thirties beside him said, “The tech may not be hard, but it requires high processing conditions and rare materials. If it’s mishandled, a fracture or recoil could kill someone outright.”

They went down the hill, dragged the Tarbosaurus’s carcass back together, and began processing it.

A desert raptor watched from afar; after a few glances and a stare at the eagle, the eagle squawked and flew straight over.

Frightened, the raptor fled without looking back.

“Cough~ cough~” Chitu called cheerfully, and three mares followed behind.

The mares seemed wary of the unfamiliar humans, stopping some thirty meters away and unwilling to approach.

Chitu called out a few times; one white mare showed a bit of courage, lowered its head, came over, and stood behind Chitu.

Seeing the humans didn’t show hostility, the remaining two mares followed and stood behind him.

“Hey, he even brought back three wives,” Qin Ziwu teased Chitu.

Chitu trotted over to Qin Ziwen and nudged his shoulder with its head, then called to the three mares behind as if urging them closer.

Curious people leaned in when they saw the wild horses so close.

With more people around, the mares grew uneasy, shifting their feet and snorting.

“Everyone back up, don’t scare the horses,” Qin Ziwen waved and pushed the crowd away.

“Guild Leader, have Chitu fetch more horses, will ya? We’re all infantry here—we want to be knights too.” Cao Biansheng’s voice came from the crowd.

Qin Ziwen smiled, “Chitu only managed to charm three by using his looks. Why don’t you sell your own charm and see if you can lure them over?”

“I can’t. If one of those hooves hits me, I’d be out for three days,” Cao Biansheng said. “But Chitu can do it—let’s dress him up a bit. Look, those horses are staring at Chitu.”

Qin Ziwen followed Cao Biansheng’s pointing finger. The wild herd in the distance had gathered quietly; many of the horses stood erect, eyes fixed on Chitu.

Their expressions were full of shock and confusion.

Even from so far away, Qin Ziwen could clearly sense the horses’ puzzlement.

After a moment of thought, Qin Ziwen suddenly had an idea.

Ten minutes later, Chitu barged into the herd, swaggering, with a Tarbosaurus claw in his mouth and its blood smeared on his neck and cheeks.

The herd parted and gave him way wherever he strode.
