Kaius just wanted to unlock his class - instead, he restarted the apocalypse.

After years of training, Kaius has barely acquired the first two of his family's legacy skills. Powerful and vanishingly rare, the method of creating them is a secret people would kill for.

Now they might be the only thing that keeps him alive.

Narrowly surviving a bandit ambush, he gets trapped in the Great Depths- a world spanning dungeon. To escape, he will have to slay one of the Guardians that defend the exits; a feat no one without a class has survived. Ever.

If that wasn’t bad enough, if he succeeds he will reignite a forgotten trial that nearly ended civilization.

Good story. Not great, but good. Lots of fights - personally after a while I got tired of overly described fights against lame monsters I couldn’t care less about - but that was mainly the mad scientist section.

Entire first book only has 2 real characters, the MC and the badger. This isn’t bad, but like I said it can be a little tired.

I really didn’t enjoy the fact that continuing the system integration screws over every strong person in the world - it felt like bad world building to justify MC’s importance.

This story is fantastic I highly recommend it to everyone. The 1st arc is wrapping up within the next 2-3 chapters (around chapter 130ish) so this is a great time to jump in.

Sometimes I feel like apocalypse novels have the most random reasons for the apocalypse to happen, so I can't expect what is the reason behind it

So I'm fully caught up on patreon with this novel, that should be enough of an indication of how much I like it. Main positives:

Most stories of this nature start with a weak MC discovering or gaining an OP skill or ability, being hunted while trying to learn how it works and eventually being OP through luck.

This story is different. MC starts the story with OP skills he's worked hard to get. He has knowledge of his path and how to obtain and increase the skills he needs. He has his goals and he implements them knowing exactly what he needs to accomplish. Such a refreshing change from the 'idiot' MC's who usually lack any hint of how their world even works. There's also a pretty non-standard system, both magic and skill wise.

Plus he gets a cool and actually relevant companion later on. hokage

A negative for some might be the pacing, as after
there isn't much action happening for a while.

How many chapters do you think one should give it before dropping it if they are still not liking it? Gave it 3 chapter and really not liking the writing style. It's written in very interrupted way reader

For me, 15 chapters but that's because I'm used to reading slops with 600+ chapters. That said, I think if a story doesn't catch your eye by the fifth chapter, you're probably not missing out on much. For me, I look whether the writing style is mature and whether theres an interesting plot or characters that's worth reading further and if it doesn't have one of these I would just drop it.

Well... this is really a good novel, it's slow paced because the situation demands a slower pace! This point of the story is important exactly because it's slow paced, it tell us that Kaius is in grave danger, and also how important and unforgiven levels can be! This is different from that brain rotting, trashy written novels were powering up is just SO ridiculously EASY! Each and every battle is deathly challenge before he gets his class. No active skills and fighting monsters WAAAY stronger than him!
So, I also understand that you're used to trash level novels, but don't criticize a well written story, just because the MC isn't blasting cities gates at the 5th chapter and crushing planets in the hundreds.

Synopsis starts off normal and then derails into madness.
As expected of an English writer. ✍️ smoke
