Preferably where the MC isn't dumb especially for plot, instant OP, cheats, whole world is full of females/harem that all gravitate towards MC for no reason, nice for no reason, hate for no reason, every male is his friend or just a nameless face slapping NPC, double standards all around; because of gender and also because you're the MC so logic doesn't apply to you. All injuries are easily and freely healed where nothing ever happens and it's no big deal, monsters butcher themself cause MC would too scared to do it so they leave it on the ground but somehow still benefit anyway, and they also get rich by doing nothing. MC can somehow slaughter an entire village of goblins, then the bosses kill themself cause MC is the chosen, or MC kills a talking colossal world-ending-boss like that's the obvious thing to do just cause it needed to happen for plot; but at the same time the MC is too scared/dumb to do basic things like socialize, standup for themself, develop. Constantly getting used and taken advantage of and disrespected - which can actually be a good plot since you should pick your battles but they aren't even thinking of enduring while biding their time for revenge; they are a doormat that apologizes for having the audacity to not be softer when stepped upon. I can keep going, but I'm sure you get what I'm talking about.

And just to be clear, there is nothing wrong if you like those stories as I also enjoy a multitude of genres. But for me the novelty has wore off, with a few exceptions. There are also so many lazy author/manga copying the same generic isekai like it's a template. Granted, imo, this mostly happens in illustrated works and to me reading and watching are different experiences. However the easy part is starting it. Especially when you have so much template material to pull from, but those stories all seemingly fall off a cliff sooner or later for obvious reasons. I just want something good enough that I can enjoy regardless of what others may say.

Something where the MC isn't some chosen destined to become the supreme master of all. Someone who is just another person living in that world; average in most ways with some things just a bit below and above average. Yet also becomes amazing in their own right.

Something more mature, in-depth, gory, uncensored, unfiltered, enduring responsibilities, fantasy's harsh reality, morale dilemmas, complex emotions, long term consequences, dynamic three-dimensional characters, questionable government, politically powerless, moments of selfishness and selflessness, lies and deception, mistakes and redemption, a wild roller-coaster of downfalls and their eventual rise just to fail again. Doing whatever they can to survive and have somewhere to live. The story of a human life.
