If you open up the entry for 'average' on a dictionary, it gives you a link to this novel.

I shouldn't be doing this- I'd sworn off, I'd taken a break, I need to recharge from the monotony of average ass power fantasy and lie back in the bed of quality deep fantasy...

    but alas, I...
    shall pioneer. 7

I'm only 16 chapters in so far, and it's okay- nothing stellar, but it has potential, just a fair warning that the translation quality takes a dip after a dozen or so chapters in.

@ch27, fight scenes are disappointing. Usual xianxia word vomit bullshit, full of nonsensical proverbs and bloating, creating large chunks of texts that are 1% content, 30% repetition, and 69% adjectives and idioms and metaphors and the like that serve no purpose save for inflation. Incredibly exhausting to read, and my eyes can't help skip over it.

It doesn't help that a lot of it is weirdly prose'd and written, and as a veteran of the genre it feels Incredibly same-y, so it's extra tiresome. For anyone seeking an example, read the first half of chapter 26.

@ch30, things appear to be kicking off. The Spirit Creek Battlefield is interesting enough, and while the whole
thing isn't the most original, it's still a decent enough hook for the time being. Whether or not this book proves to be good or not, I believe, will largely depend on how this battlefield area pans out. I'll attempt to keep reading to the end of this arc before posting a complete review, unless it turns out this is just a tiny interlude area for the time being.

Got kinda bored around chapter 36, and I'm dropping it--
I'm sure this novel might be entertaining for someone new to the genre- even as a fifth or sixth book, it could work pretty well, since there's nothing overly obnoxious or disgraceful about it.

That works in the opposite direction too, though. There's nothing very unique, the writing is as obtuse as most xianxias, and it's not like any of the characters are unique. The power system is so far pretty bog-standard; the cheat is self-explanatory for everyone who's read this sort of stuff, and that 'rune' or whatever thing is also easily picked apart, and it's not mind-blowing and I've seen it done before, even if in different ways.

If you're looking for a pretty decent average xianxia, go for it, I'd say. It's not offensive, but it isn't exactly mindblowing, and there are some decent hooks here for you to go for. Definitely one of the better new releases on this site.

If you're used to the genre and are looking for something original to spice it up before you can throw yourself in, don't waste your time; this is standard stuff.

Likely a harem, but maybe not; he has met two female characters so far, and my harem senses signal harem for sure, but who knows? Happy reading, fellow brothers and sisters. May you find the novel that gives you enlightenment. bow
