    For those who like this story, know that the same author has already written and completed an excellent first novel before this one. know

    It's called "The Record of Unusual Creatures", it's in the same genre, with puzzle solving, mystery and exploration, but with a space theme. welldone

    You will find the same humor, the same horrific side and secondary characters as endearing as in “Deep Sea Embers”. satisfied

      Is that true ? I have read the other story a bit and I was not aware that they are by same author. I do have to say that the other story was not as good as this one. I think I stopped reading that one at some point.

        His first story starts slowly, many didn't have the patience to finish the beginning. satisfied

        It's a shame because the sequel is great, the MC investigates a post-apocalyptic parallel universe and the origin of non-human races on Earth which has a link with this same universe. know

        We discover the history of this ruined universe and its extraterrestrial races which have all suffered a sort of extinction.

        Personally I recommend it, it is as good as "Deep Sea Embers". welldone

          might pick it up again, the first one I stopped right about one of the main FMC characters had some issues and MC rushed to save her or something, don't recall exact details, just remember that she was at very vital point. Up until that point it was interesting read, but then the story took a weird turn for me at that point of time.

      LoL...are you reading properly or just skimming? he just got into completely new world and met the weird talking goat head. he dont know if he is ally to him or previous captain. if he got busted that he is outsider, he dont know what the ship or goathead do to him. in other word, he neither trust the ship nor goat head nor his crew and he has to rely on himself to gather information and as the story goes by, you will see their relationship progression

      to be fair, as you stumble along with the story you will discover that the background of the world and the MC and other characters is not so straightforward and it all starts to make sense.

    A novel about a world submerged in mystery and focused on unveiling said mysteries.

    This novel is currently one of my favorites, and I keep looking forward to new chapters. Sure wish there were more novels like this out there.

    It as a bit of a rough start in the first few chapters, and it can be a bit on the slower side as well, as some chapters are more dedicated to fleshing out the characters and world than on advancing the plot.
    I personally like the idea that the MC is not necessarily threatened by the Lovecraftian horrors of this world - it gives him more time to explore its mysteries surrounding him. If you're looking for action, this story isn't the right one.
    Meanwhile, I'd say it definitely doesn't lack tension or agency, if that's a worry.
    Additionally, it's not lacking in wholesome and comedic moments.
