The Charm of Soul Pets寵魅

Some of the most WASTED potential I've ever seen for a novel. Don't get it mistaken the 1st 100 or so chapters of this book aren't good... they're EXCELLENT! You have stakes, a unique power structure that's cleverly naturally introduced, solid and intriguing world-building so why do I say wasted Potential? Well... after he LEAVES the island he starts on that's when cracks start show. Instead of having tension and stakes stacked up against the MC that he has to navigate instead he'll meander through the world uninterrupted. Now I don't COMPLETELY hate faceslapping, and I don't think stories need to have HIGH-STAKES 24/7 either, it's that it feels like alot of the progression feels like side-quests Even the FIGHTS... My god the fights are so boring it's actually REALLY BAD! Fights can take around 6-10 chapters to finish with a complete lack of weight to anything being described.. Even the reason to fights before there was a push and pull to the plot. PUSH: The white nightmare trying to consume him and the island he's on. PUSH: His ambition to get stronger and get revenge. But after 1st chapter he loses all that, even his push feels greatly diminished with how he spends his time. Overall... you may enjoy it, but if you do give it a read I HIGHLY recommend you skim the later fight scenes.

Been reading this a bit. While translation is good, novel suffers from excessive over explanantion and worst part is that author explains the same thing over and over again. For instance. Somebody uses special skills. Author writes a paragraph to explain said skill. Ok fine, but the next fight somebody uses same skill, we get slightly altered but same explanantion all over again. and considering that there are tons of different pets and skills. All the fights are just an explanation of skill effects. Its extremely dull and annoying.

Ended up just skipping reading any chapters with fights in it.

So I would at best rate this novel as 3. It has ok world building and story, but severly lacks in storytelling department

This is a really good novel, sure there are parts that get a little slow, but it is definitely worth it. One issue I often have with webnovels is that the ending hardly ever 'lands' well. This novel's end though... It hits very hard, specially the one before the Epiloge.

The main character was colder and more ruthless in beginning but as we progress he gets more attached to previous familial relationships . Which leads to him making more decision to that benefit.

The potential romance from the direction it’s going it’s probably going to be that stuck up Princess Jinrou , is not bad, I just tolerate, characters around her from what I see just bootlickers and were are told she is all that people be kneeling n stuff that maid of her be talking to much.
At least She is not kidnapped or creates enemies for Mc from just existing, generating hatred and jealously just because she is Jade like beauty and all that, so far at least.

From What saw also his mother seems to have abandoned father and Mc prob another stuck up person saw it in chapter 101.

Currently read until (chapter 192 /book 2 82) it’s good so far

The book is funny, with its flaws, but also great moments, the idea is quite interesting, but the ending is not very, not that terrible, but inevitably leaves an unpleasant aftertaste in the mouth, I would like a happier ending.
In any case, I advise you to read the book, my rating is a solid 4/5.
