Premise: MC has a martial arts proficiency system. He is a very cautious person who develops step by step in a low key manner.

But even though the MC is extremely cautious, he still has to rely on various Deus Ex Machinas to save his life, as every 50 or so chapters he encounters antagonists levels higher, that makes him run around in panic. No matter which cultivation level the MC is in, these situations always occur. It's like the author can only write the troupe of a runaway MC.

The numerical progression of the techniques are also not shown in the later parts of the novel, with different techniques having different proficiencies at times based on the author's whims.

Most of MC's techniques and trump cards are also not as wondrous as they sound. They don't have any special features and they start losing their edge in the later parts of the novel as MC even struggles to handle an opponent of the same sub-realm, and can only run when facing someone a sub-realm higher. Even though he is built up as this monstrous genius, he still has to rely on desperate arts like blood burning art to even contend with someone of the same sub-realm. Power progression is truly disappointing.

Also, author has a habit of padding chapters with useless information that's repeated again and again throughout the story. I believe it's done to meet the word count quota on Qidian. Subsequently the actual amount of plot in each chapter is pitifully small.

Its on about 101 chapters for now

Pretty good progression novel. MC's cheat is basically amazing comprehension ability and he has still to pay for it through a system, so really not that overpowered.

The biggest downside is the pace which can seem rushed oftentimes with lacking dialogue and skipping the feel good moments. Another downside, the worldbuilding is not expanded on even on basic info sometimes. The geography of the place. The dynasty and rebel forces. What is their deal when it seems the sect governs itself and its teritorry? Is the dynasty weaker than the immortal cloud sect? How can they fight when it seems you are likely to to be killed by anomalies when travelling between cities?

This is my second time reading this novel and I ended up pausing/dropping again. It's an entertaining novel with competent MC. There's just two major problems. One, the translation is a bad MTL, like it gives other MTLs a bad name, but it's still readable. The second more important reason that makes the enjoyment of this novel hard is the difficulty level.

The author, in an effort to create a dynamic world with a lot of antagonists for the MC, goes overboard and creates a setting that's more like an apocalypse. Not only is MC living in a world with a declining incompetent dynasty with rebel armies, and bandits (which he somehow manages to constantly run into all of them). Evidently the ghosts and evil creatures of the world all got the memo about the declining empire as well. So now the wilderness is a death trap filled with monsters with high cultivation.

This makes no sense because how on Earth could regular humans survive in this world? How would and small town survive? How do you have cities if you can't even trade. Where is the city going to get all the food when outside the city is like hell difficulty?
This author created such a hellish setting just to give the "lowkey" MC reasons for always running into trouble even when trying to avoid it. It's entertaining for the first couple times, but after a while, it's just annoying.

Typical fastfood novel, at quite a few points was very filler heavy but overall quite good for fastfood, 5-6/10 as a novel 7,5-8,5/10 as a fastfood
