Chapter 249: Unreasonable Overwhelming Firepower
Starlight Continent, Southeast Region.
High in the sky, the void suddenly twisted as if an invisible sharp claw had slashed through it, tearing open a massive rift.
The rift slowly widened, and from it, a majestic Wizard Tower emerged, moving with an unsettling blend of slowness and speed.
The enormous tower was a deep, inky black, resembling obsidian, shimmering with a cold, eerie luster.
On either side, two curved, horn-like structures jutted out, reminiscent of arrow towers or turrets. Combined with the straight main tower in the center, it appeared to be a dark claw from afar, exuding a chilling and sinister aura.
After more than ten breaths, the Wizard Tower fully detached from the rift and hovered high above.
The rift behind it gradually closed.
Buzz!
An invisible ripple emanated from the Wizard Tower, rapidly spreading in all directions and instantly engulfing an area of dozens of kilometers.
[Activating Detection Field, scanning an area with a 30-kilometer radius.]
[Detecting Energy Particle concentration...]
[Detecting magical aura...]
[Detecting material environment...]
[Scanning complete.]
As the voice faded, a three-dimensional holographic panorama materialized in the void, with dense text annotations hovering above the model.
Liam's gaze quickly swept over the text, and he nodded slightly.
"Not bad; the Energy Particle concentration in Starlight Continent is almost restored to what it was two thousand years ago."
Behind Liam stood two Wizards.
The Wizard on the left had half of his cheek completely missing, revealing a terrifying white bone that made him look quite frightening.
The Wizard on the right still had his cheek intact, but an extra white bone head protruded from his neck. Two faint blue flames flickered within its empty eye sockets, indicating it was once a canine creature.
"Hearing Liam's words, the Bone-faced Wizard revealed a sinister, chilling smile. His voice was hoarse as he said, 'If it weren't for the Elemental Desert, the concentration of Energy Particles and the resources of Starlight Continent would already surpass those of many Sub-Planes. As long as we seize the Starlight Continent before the other Wizard Factions, we can obtain another Resource Plane.'
Another Dog-headed Wizard snorted, somewhat regretfully. 'It's a pity that the resources of Starlight Continent haven't recovered to their peak. Otherwise, we could have used this opportunity to plunder a significant haul, securing our cultivation resources for the next few decades.'
The Bone-faced Wizard chuckled, 'Be grateful. If that were the case, this mission wouldn’t have fallen to us; it would have been snatched away by those Crown Wizard clansmen long ago!'
The Dog-headed Wizard curled his lip but did not refute, clearly acknowledging his companion's words. The Crown Wizard clansmen were like insatiable wolves, taking any high-profit, low-risk missions for themselves while leaving behind only the hard bones to gnaw on.
Occasionally, they might encounter a few low-difficulty missions, but because the rewards were too meager, those Crown clansmen looked down upon them. Only then would such missions fall to their lot.
In the cutthroat environment of Gloomy Throne, those like them, the exploited, often held an awkward status.
'Alright, enough idle chatter,' Liam interrupted the two men, his gaze darkening. 'The concentration of Energy Particles here cannot compare to the Gloom Moon Plane. If we waste too much time here, it will hinder our cultivation. Let’s resolve matters quickly and return.'
Bone-faced Wizard and Dog-headed Wizard shared his sentiments and ceased their conversation. The latter retrieved a bone whistle, placed it to his mouth, and blew hard.
There was no sound, only an invisible, strange fluctuation that seemed to arise from thin air, as if spreading through multiple layers of space.
Afterward, the three waited patiently.
However, as half a day passed, no one arrived.
As time dragged on, Liam's expression gradually darkened. The Bone-faced Wizard and Dog-headed Wizard also sensed something was amiss, their brows tightly knitted.
'Could it be that Evan and the others have encountered some trouble and cannot get away?'"
"What in this continent could possibly keep twelve Wizards trapped? Besides, even if they couldn’t leave immediately, they could have sent a Bone Raven with a message, yet there’s been absolutely no movement. Something is definitely wrong!"
As the two spoke, Liam's expression suddenly shifted. He reached out and grasped at the empty air, summoning a Bone Raven that appeared out of nowhere, struggling in his palm.
Upon seeing the Bone Raven, the Bone-faced Wizard and the Dog-headed Wizard both relaxed. The fact that a Bone Raven had been sent likely meant things weren't too dire.
However, they quickly realized something was amiss; this Bone Raven showed no signs of delivering any message at all.
Liam's eyes narrowed. With a tight grip, he crushed the Bone Raven to dust with a resounding crack. From the shattered bones, a tiny bean-sized, pale blue light floated free.
Liam's hand darted out, his index finger touching the pale blue light. Instantly, a faint ripple spread outward, transforming into a mirror-like light screen that hovered in the void.
Images flickered on the screen, clearly depicting a battle.
On one side was none other than Evan.
Opposing him were three identical-looking young girls and four giant metal octopuses.
Liam and the others immediately recognized them as Puppets.
The battle lasted less than ten minutes, with Evan quickly succumbing to defeat, then being knocked unconscious and carried away by the Puppets.
The images ended abruptly, the light screen collapsing into particles that slowly faded into the air.
The expressions of Liam and the others turned grim.
Clearly, something had happened to Evan and the rest.
"Evan is always cautious. This Bone Raven must have been secretly left behind by the enemy when they weren’t paying attention, just to warn us."
Liam’s gaze darkened, his expression wavering with uncertainty.
"It now seems that the twelve who entered Starlight Continent first have very likely been captured by the enemy, and their chances of survival are slim!"
The Dog-headed Wizard frowned and said, “But that shouldn’t be possible. Starlight Continent has been sealed for a thousand years, and resources there are scarce."
"It's absolutely impossible for such a powerful existence to arise. Evan, there were a full twelve of them. How could they have been completely annihilated?"
"It is indeed unbelievable, but the facts are right before our eyes," Liam said, his tone somber. "The puppets we captured are clearly Wizard Level Puppets, and that speaks volumes."
The Bone-faced Wizard and Dog-headed Wizard fell silent, their expressions a mix of shock and suspicion.
They knew exactly what this meant.
Refining Wizard Level Puppets required resources, skill, and strength; all three were indispensable.
If it were just one or two Wizard Level Puppets, perhaps they could have been acquired through some Wizard Inheritance.
But seven Wizard Level Puppets of different types could only indicate that they were refined by a Wizard Faction!
Yet, that was precisely why they found it so hard to believe.
The conditions of the Starlight Continent made it seem impossible for a Wizard Faction to emerge!
They would be grateful if even one Wizard were born!
What had truly happened on the Starlight Continent in the past two thousand years?
"It seems we underestimated the Starlight Continent," Liam narrowed his eyes.
"So, what do we do next?" the Bone-faced Wizard asked.
Before Liam could respond, the Dog-headed Wizard snorted coldly and replied, "Is that even a question? Of course, we take revenge!"
"Even if there really is a Wizard Faction on the Starlight Continent, so what?"
"A Wizard Faction that developed from the Elemental Desert Era, with a lineage of only a few hundred or a thousand years at most—how much power could it possibly wield?"
"With our Wizard Tower here, there's nothing to fear. We will crush them and let those country bumpkins know the consequences of opposing our Gloomy Throne!"
Liam shot him a warning glance and said calmly, "Don't be careless. To be able to refine Wizard Level Puppets, that Wizard Faction must possess some strength."
But even as he said this, he secretly agreed with the other's sentiments.
The environmental limitations of the Starlight Continent were evident; any Wizard Faction born from this land, no matter how strong, would still be restricted.
It wouldn’t even qualify as a Wizard Faction by Multiverse standards.
They were only three people, yet they possessed a Small Wizard Tower, powerful enough to destroy a pseudo-Wizard Faction that wasn’t even considered low-grade!
Optimistically, if the Starlight Continent had a Wizard Faction, it meant resources might not be as scarce as they had imagined.
At the very least, that unknown Wizard Faction must control a considerable amount of resources!
If they could defeat that Wizard Faction and seize the resources, this operation would undoubtedly be a tremendous success!
With this thought, a hint of fervor surged in Liam’s heart.
Looking at the other two, he saw their eyes flickering, clearly reflecting the same thoughts.
Competition in the Gloomy Throne was fierce, and cultivators like them, lacking any background or backing, were often exploited and found themselves in dire situations. This was a rare opportunity to acquire a significant amount of resources, so naturally, they wouldn’t let it slip away.
"We must seek our revenge, and we also have the mission to conquer the Starlight Continent," Liam stated gravely. "However, we can’t act rashly. It’s best to gather intelligence first and understand the specific situation of that Wizard Faction."
This was a mature and prudent suggestion, and both the Bone-faced Wizard and the Dog-headed Wizard had no objections.
Soon, the Wizard Tower hummed and trembled as it soared into the distance.
The flying speed of the Wizard Tower was extremely fast, and before long, the outline of a town emerged in the distance.
Liam spoke softly, "Let’s go directly to find the local Noble Lord; those individuals are likely to know more about what is happening."
The Dog-headed Wizard grinned and replied, "I’ll handle it. My Corpse Hounds haven’t eaten anything in a long time. This town should be more than enough to fill their bellies."
Liam glanced at him and nodded expressionlessly.
After all, it was just a human city; slaughtering it was insignificant. As long as they gathered useful intelligence and it didn’t delay their mission, Liam didn't want to interfere with the others' actions.
Besides, these two weren’t his subordinates; they were merely temporary teammates for this mission. Though he could assert his authority with his Second Level Wizard status, he couldn’t make them completely obedient.
As they spoke, the Wizard Tower drew closer and closer to the town, and soon they could see a clear overview of it.
Just then, the void ahead suddenly twisted, and the azure sky appeared to be split by a knife, abruptly tearing open a massive gap.
Amidst the astonished gazes of Liam and his two companions, a towering wizard tower flew out from within.
"Wizard Tower!"
The Dog-headed Wizard's face changed drastically, crying out in alarm.
Liam and the Bone-faced Wizard were also filled with shock.
What was happening?
Why would a wizard tower appear here?
Could it be that another Wizard faction had invaded the Starlight Continent before them?
Was it the Deadwood Council? The Savage Spirit? Or perhaps that group of insidious individuals from the Deep Blue Alliance?
Liam's expression suddenly turned somber. He felt a deep intuition that something unexpected had occurred.
"The architectural style of this wizard tower... I can’t determine which faction it belongs to," the Bone-faced Wizard frowned, turning to look at Liam. "What should we do?"
Liam hesitated upon hearing this.
However, soon, he found he no longer needed to struggle with the decision, as the other side had already made it for him.
A deafening roar suddenly erupted from the high sky, like countless monstrous beasts howling at once. The rolling sonic waves converged, resonating through the heavens like booming thunder.
Immediately afterward, the opposing wizard tower lit up with blinding spell radiance. Numerous thick rays of light shot out, striking the Dark Wizard Tower, where Liam was located, like a torrential downpour.
Buzz!
The Mystic Lock Defense Energy Field of the Dark Wizard Tower activated instantly, a layer of distorted force field engulfing the entire tower and blocking the countless incoming rays!
However, Liam and his two companions turned pale with fright.
"Are those spell turrets?!"
"It seems so... but their power is far too strong!"
"The key is the number. I saw it clearly; that wizard tower just launched three hundred Cursed Rune Rays simultaneously!"
Liam and the others were completely shocked.
The standard equipment of a small wizard tower usually consists of about a hundred spell turrets.
Better towers might have around one hundred and fifty or sixty.
It wasn't that the builders of the wizard tower lacked the funds or were unwilling to equip more spell turrets; rather, the energy of a wizard tower was limited.
"Equipping three hundred Spell Turrets could certainly enhance long-range firepower, but what's the point if just a few volleys can drain the Wizard Tower’s energy?
Even with a hundred Spell Turrets, they wouldn’t all be deployed at once in battle. They would be activated according to the specific combat situation, with only a portion focused on specific targets at any given time.
The size of the Wizard Tower across from us—clearly a Small Wizard Tower—is astonishing. It is equipped with three hundred Spell Turrets, a sight that is beyond the comprehension of Liam and the others!
It's simply too illogical!
The key point is that the power of those Spell Turrets appears to be much greater than that of normal Spell Turrets!
Just now, a single volley reduced the durability of Dark Wizard Tower's Mystic Lock Defense Energy Field by more than thirty percent!
Even taking a direct hit from a Plasma Cannon wouldn't be that terrifying!
"Those arrogant bastards!"
Recovering from his shock, the Dog-headed Wizard's gaze flickered, a cold sneer curling his lips.
"With this kind of fighting style, I don’t believe their Wizard Tower’s energy supply can keep up. That last volley probably drained most of their Elemental Pool’s energy!"
The Small Elemental Pool’s energy is limited and simply cannot sustain such a relentless barrage of Spell Turrets.
However, no sooner had he finished speaking than the opposing Wizard Tower illuminated again with dazzling Spell Radiance, and a dense swarm of Cursed Rune Rays shot forth like a horde of locusts, crashing into the Dark Wizard Tower with a thunderous roar!"
