Chapter 494: Pokemon master of tactics: Chapter 494 (Bonus Chapter) |
The Flygon looked at Alex and said, "Human, tell me. What do you want to talk about?"
Alex maintained a friendly expression as he replied, "I should be asking that question. Why are you attacking this human city? What do you gain from it besides risking your own life?"
Even though they were only thirty meters apart, Alex remained completely calm.
He had already calculated the risks. With Gardevoir and Ditto capable of teleportation, he and his Pokemons could disappear from this spot almost instantly if the situation turned bad.
At the same time, several of his Pokémon were ready to use Protect at a moment's notice, which would give him more than enough time to react even if the Flygon suddenly launched a powerful attack.
Even in the unlikely event that she used her life energy to strengthen a move, the layered Protect(s) he had prepared would still be enough to block it.
That was the reason he could stand here so calmly in front of such a powerful Pokemon.
The female Flygon displayed an unreadable expression as she said, "This isn't important, human. I have no reason to attack this city. I am only here because I am searching for something."
Alex immediately noticed that she was unusually clever for a wild Pokémon. She didn't reveal what she was looking for, nor why she had chosen this particular city.
He found himself slightly impressed. Her behavior felt more calculated than that of many humans he had met.
Still, he didn't show any of that on his face.
Instead, he smiled faintly and said, "If you're looking for something, you should talk to the right person. I don't mean to brag, but I hold a relatively high position among humans, so finding what you need wouldn't be difficult for me."
The Flygon looked at him in silence.
For a brief moment, the thought of capturing him crossed her mind. If she could take him back to her territory, she might be able to force him to help.
But that idea disappeared just as quickly as it came.
All of his Pokémon were watching her closely, their bodies tense and ready to react instantly. Any sudden movement would immediately trigger a counterattack, and she knew she wouldn't be able to capture him without a fight.
And a fight against this group was not something she wanted.
After a short pause, she finally spoke again. "Alright, human. I will tell you what I need. I am searching for something that allows my species to live longer."
Alex's eyes flickered slightly, though his expression didn't change.
He immediately thought of the Gem series, which were produced by several professors specializing in specific Pokémon types.
He had once seen a Bug-type version at an exclusive auction he had been allowed to enter after winning the Rookie Tournament. Even that cheap version had sold for around five million, a price that no longer meant much to him now.
But the value of these Gems varied drastically depending on the type. The reason wasn't just the complexity of their production, but also the difference in their effects.
A Bug-type Gem could extend the life of a normal Bug Pokémon by about a year.
A Dragon-type Gem, on the other hand, could extend the life of a Dragon Pokémon by more than twenty years.
That difference alone explained why the prices were so extreme.
Alex smiled slightly as he said, "You're lucky. I'm one of the few humans who can actually get something like that and bring it to you. But what can you offer me in return? You have to understand that such an item is very valuable and not easy to obtain."
He exaggerated a little, but overall, his words weren't far from the truth.
The Flygon reacted immediately. Her wings shifted slightly, and there was a subtle change in her posture that made it clear how important this information was to her.
She looked at Alex with a serious expression and said, "Human, your words please me, but I do not trust you. Tell me the exact name of this item and its effect."
Alex was once again slightly impressed by her reaction. She wasn't just strong, she was careful, suspicious and calculating.
He let out a short laugh and replied, "Haha, so you want the name and exact effect so you can confirm it later, right? No problem. I prefer fair trades anyway."
He continued calmly, "The item is called a DragonGem. Its effect is to extend the lifespan of a Dragon-type Pokémon by an average of twenty years."
He paused briefly before adding, "But there's a downside. The effect decreases with each use, and DragonGems in particular lose effectiveness very quickly."
Alex looked directly at her as he explained further, "Each additional DragonGem only gives half the effect of the previous one. So if you use three on the same Dragon Pokémon, the total lifespan increase would only be around 35 years."
The Flygon remained silent for a moment.
Thirty-five years. For a Dragon-type Pokémon, that wasn't insignificant, but it also wasn't as much as she had hoped.
From her perspective, it felt comparable to only a decade or so in human terms.
Still, something in Alex's explanation made her trust him a little more.
The fact that he had openly mentioned the decreasing effectiveness worked not in his favor. If he wanted to deceive her, there would have been no reason to include such a disadvantage.
After a short pause, her gaze sharpened slightly as she continued to look at him, clearly thinking about her next move.
The Flygon looked at Alex and asked, "I need three of these Dragon Gems. What do you want for them?"
Alex didn't answer immediately. Instead, he took a moment to think, his expression turning more serious as he considered the value involved.
Each Dragon Gem was worth around 30 to 35 million Poké Dollars, and even for him, that wasn't a trivial amount. Three of them would push the total close to a hundred million.
That wasn't something he could trade lightly.
He finally spoke, his tone measured. "Each Dragon Gem is extremely expensive, and I don't think it will be easy for you to offer something of equal value."
The Flygon didn't react right away. She seemed to think carefully before answering. she said slowly, "What if I give you everything my pack has collected, and in addition, I help you once in a battle, as long as it does not put me in serious danger?"
Alex smiled faintly, but there was no hesitation in his refusal. he said calmly. "That's not enough, I'm sorry, but you're not strong enough for your help to be decisive for me."
He paused briefly before adding, "I won't explain the details, but I have a trump card that allows one of my Pokémon to surpass your current strength."
The Flygon's eyes narrowed slightly. She didn't fully believe him, but she didn't dismiss it either. From her perspective, it was entirely possible that he possessed something powerful with significant drawbacks, something he was unwilling to use unless absolutely necessary.
She remained silent for a few seconds, clearly weighing her options.
Then she spoke again. "What if, I offer my mate's help instead of my own?"
