Chapter 2190: Creation of Key |
Sylas felt that something was off. Legacy was an organization, but this key, or whatever it was, was clearly referring to an overarching concept.
This didn't sound like it was that big of a deal. So what? Maybe Legacy just named themselves after the concept.
But this was the wrong way of viewing things.
Will was a complex thing, and by the time you started dealing with the building of bloodlines, and Sects, and Guilds, and Clans, you weren't just building what Will you projected to the world on your own anymore.
At some point, it was just as critical how the world viewed you as you viewed yourself.
Sylas never cared about these things, believing he could shrug off these matters as he pleased, but that didn't change how the world itself worked.
That was to say that even if Legacy originally named themselves after this unique concept, it was only a matter of time before the Will they built themselves on commenced to morph and change.
Yet, as far as Sylas could tell, the Legacy he knew of shared this same exact name nonetheless. That was to say… The organization somehow embodied Legacy itself, not the organization, but the concept. And that realization made Sylas' heart skip a beat.
It recontextualized everything for him.
But he had dismissed, defeated, or circumvented their efforts countless times already.
By the time Sylas realized it wasn't actually Legacy that was targeting Earth, and they were just trying to take advantage of a situation, he had already defeated them several times.
Whether it was Alex, the number one they picked instead of him, their whole scheme with the Demon Gates, the appearance of the Professors… He had defeated them so many times it was hard to take them seriously.
However, staring at this name now, Sylas realized something…
He had never actually faced the full brunt of Legacy's efforts, not a single time before. The scope of this organization, what they were chasing after, lusting after… Was a concept that seemed to exist as an umbrella even above Will itself.
'Legacy…'
Sylas' gaze flickered, a radiant cold erupting from them for a small moment before they slowly calmed.
'Okay.'
The badge flickered between Sylas' fingers.
This treasure was definitely not normal. If he was correct, it might essentially allow him to create mini-Split Realms on a whim and clear them to gain whatever secrets were left behind by Clans, Sects, or organizations that had long since fallen.
It wouldn't be as involved as entering a whole Split Realm either. It would be more focused and targeted, meaning it would be easier for him to clear them with speed.
This was essentially a cheat for Sylas who needed Evolutionary Energy to progress. At the same time, it would add a great deal to his Royal Hero Line as well, strengthening his bloodline at the same time.
There was definitely a catch, though…
Sylas had a feeling that the true core members of Legacy would definitely not like him having this thing.
On the one hand, he was correct. These rewards were specially made for him. The Madness System must have sensed his need for Evolutionary Energy and essentially gave him the perfect item to farm that.
It also seemed to be a treasure without limits. Sylas just might stumble into the Legacy of S-tiers with this thing and get himself killed.
But that wasn't the important part of the danger he was facing.
If Legacy has such a monopoly on the Concept of Legacy itself…
How could they be alright with an outsider they had already tried to invite to their organization taking advantage of it without their input.
'Good.'
Sylas caught the badge out of the air, abruptly stopping its spin and storing it into his Madness Key.
If there were members of Legacy observing him through the knight right now, they were free to come. He would be ready.
There was no challenge he wouldn't absolutely crush.
'Legacy of Key…'
The name of the treasure itself was very interesting as well. Shouldn't it be Key of Legacy? He had a feeling there was something important he was missing about this as well. But for now, he didn't have an explanation. He could only move onto the next reward.
Oddly enough, all three rewards were badges, and the second one he picked up interestingly enough followed the exact same naming scheme.

[Rune Masters serve a fraternity of eternity, but Creation Masters exist on a level beyond, untouchable by the common man and existing in a plane all to themselves. Exclusive as they are, they are always looking for new members. And yet, these invitations exist so very few and far apart. Should you be reading this… you have been selected.
[Pass one final trial and you shall be ushered in to a holding of endless proportion, a mass of knowledge the likes of which very few Rune Masters have ever seen [However, take note young candidate. You may only select your Path of Creation a single time]

'Is that so…'
The one thing Sylas lacked the most when it came to Rune Mastery was a foundation of knowledge.
Right now, his best foundation came from the Weaver Guild, but he had already reached a point where that knowledge base was pitiful. He had surpassed them by such a large amount he couldn't even fathom just how much he was missing out on.
But this seemed to want to bridge that gap for him.
These rewards were so very odd, though. It was like they were giving him keys to improve instead of actual things to help him with immediacy.
Sylas wondered if this last one would be different.
