Chapter 2189: Legacy of Key |
"SYLAS GRIMBLADE!"
A roar of fury echoed across time and space, a persistent Will trying to climb back. But Sylas didn't even move, nor did he say anything. It was a complete waste of his time. He had already wasted more words on this fool than he cared to.
The rest no longer had anything to do with him. As far as he was concerned, this battle… was over. No, it had been over for a highly long time already.
So, he would just take what he had earned and return home.
Sylas felt a surge of Evolutionary Energy flood into him. He had felt it when he defeated Thessa, a lot more than what he had felt when he defeated The Prince. This wasn't because she was stronger, but instead because Evolutionary Energy was far more clever than a system. It was weaved into the laws of the universe itself.
As such, it could understand the nuance of a situation far more than most people could, and thus could conclude the truth about matters.
It knew that Sylas had an advantage against The Prince he shouldn't have had, so it didn't award him as much. By comparison, defeating Thessa was a lot more difficult, and it didn't give him anything for The Duchess at all.
And by comparison to all of those…
The reward for the Monkey King was on an entire different level entirely.
Before, he had been forced to choose between whether he wanted to improve his Class or the Grimblade Bloodline. Ultimately, he chose bloodline.
Funny enough, that was actually hugely helpful to him. If he hadn't done that, the moment he comprehended the Golden Battlefield, he would have gotten himself ripped apart. There was no way a Mortal could survive on the Demi-God Plane like this.
Now, however, it was about time he progressed his Classes.
Sylas didn't do that, though. Not just yet.
The Monkey King was a fool, but he was right about one thing. Sylas knew too little about what it truly meant to be a Demi-God. Even now that he was one, he couldn't quite grasp all the intricacies.
That was because of one very obvious thing he had almost overlooked. This comprehension he had of his body previously was borne of an understanding of the intricacies of his Mortal Body. He understood that body like the back of his hand, but his new Demi-God Body wasn't on the same level at all.
It also made him curious about Classes and how they might have worked differently on the Demi-God Plane. Were the ideas of how he would improve in the past the same as the ideas he should continue to pursue now?
He wasn't sure anymore.
But luckily, he would be rising to the Demi-God Plane soon enough, and this Evolutionary Energy wasn't going anywhere. He could store it for as long as he wanted.
He wasn't subject to the whims of a system. Or at the very least, he wasn't as subject to it as he was in the past.

'Oh.' Sylas' gaze flickered when the notification surfaced. For some reason, he hadn't actually expected to get proper rewards from the Split Realm.
But it made sense that he would. He was happy enough with his Evolutionary Energy alone. But if he was going to get rewards too, this was huge.
That was because if Sylas was correct—setting aside the fact these would be his first truly Demi-God level treasures—the limit of these rewards wouldn't necessarily be at the D- or C-tier.
Because of the way the Monkey King had done things, the Split Realm was highly flexible, and it had the ability to bend and curve all the way up to the A-tier, and yet down to the F-tier if necessary as well.
It would be very interesting to see how the Madness System chose to display the rewards for a Split Realm like this.
The last time Sylas had managed to get his hands on A-tier rewards, he had been able to do quite a lot. And he had a feeling that given what was probably waiting for him on the Demi-God Plane, he would need more of that.
And Sylas also remembered something else about Split Realms from his experience with the Mountains of Giza… All of the rewards were specifically tailored to the one who successfully grasped them.

Complex screens and Runes danced across Sylas' vision. But as they quickly formed, Sylas' eyes couldn't help but narrow as three things began to take shape in front of him. The Runes they came from… were very odd.
Sylas looked up to meet the eyes of the knight that was still peeking over the universe at him. It showed no signs of disappearing as though it was still very much interested in watching all of this play out as well.
Sylas gazed at it deeply and then reached forward, taking what looked like a badge out of the air.

[Legacy of Key (???) (Legendary)]
[The weight of Legacy is beyond the understanding of most. Standing beyond Will, Legacy is a power that persists beyond life, beyond space, beyond time. It stands as a testament to every accomplishment, every achievement, every thought, imprinting itself onto the world without regard for what Wills it might stamp out] [Abilities: Sense lingering attachments of Legacy in the surroundings. Defeat it and take it for your own] —
Sylas stared at the first word, unable to take his eyes off it. He read it over and over again as though the number of times he did so might change something about what he was seeing, but it didn't.
He was sure.
He had stopped reading things through their alphanumerics a long time ago. This word, it couldn't have been more obvious.
This Legacy and the one he knew were one and the same.
