Chapter 63: Shop Spending

"This is actually a precious consumable with strategic value. It can summon a controllable zombie horde out of thin air, but is that green stuff really bile?" Bai Mu muttered as he placed the Boomer's bile and the First Aid Kit into his inventory.

The ending rewards also included a Common-grade Script chest. He took it out as well; it was a small wooden box inlaid with brass, exuding quite a medieval flair.

[Open Script Chest (Common)?]

[Yes/No.]

"Yes."

[You have obtained the reward: "Gas Mask".]

A black mask appeared in front of Bai Mu. The upper half was covered with a brownish-yellow translucent material, while the lower half consisted of a breathing filter.

[Name: Gas Mask]

[Type: Head Armor]

[Quality: Common]

[Defense: Extremely Low]

[Attributes: None]

[Equipment Effect: Immune to poison gas and smoke damage in the air.]

[Equipment Requirement: None]

[Remark: A gas mask created to resist the mutant virus, possessing incredible sealing and filtering capabilities. It is said that during testing, the developer wore it and dove deep into a cesspit. According to rumors, after the test was completed, higher-ups saw the developer thoroughly enjoying a barbecue buffet. Thus, this mask was immediately approved and officially entered production.]

Just like the traffic cone hat, it was another piece of head armor. However, this item did not provide the wearer with any additional defense. The extremely low defense on the attribute panel meant one shouldn't expect it to help withstand any attacks.

But its special effect looked incredibly powerful, directly granting immunity to poison gas and smoke damage.

Although the scenarios where it would be useful were rare, if there ever came a time when it was truly needed, this effect would be nothing short of a divine skill.

To get a usable piece of equipment from a Common chest left Bai Mu quite satisfied. With all the Script chests now opened, he proceeded to open the Script Shop to plan how he would spend his Points.

In the Script Shop tab, five random items had refreshed as usual. Among them, the Painkillers, Magnum revolver, and Hand Grenades were all things Bai Mu had seen in the Script. These three items were all props found in the military supply crates.

There were four bottles of Painkillers, all Common-grade recovery items. A single bottle sold for 150 Points. The effect was to restore 25% of Health and provide an additional 25% temporary Health that lasted for five minutes. It was actually quite expensive, considering it was a one-time consumable that vanished after use.

However, Bai Mu had plenty of Points, so he directly bought out all four bottles of Painkillers.

As a Player who could face mortal danger at any moment, things like health potions were naturally to be hoarded as much as possible.

The Magnum was a Rare weapon priced at 800 Points, but Bai Mu already had a revolver, so he gave up on this option.

The Hand Grenades cost 100 Points each, and there were three in total. Bai Mu bought them all with his usual extravagance. Although their power wasn't very high, pale in comparison to the stick grenades he found in Dave's secret arsenal, he had a lot of money in his pockets, so he spent it where he should.

Unspent money was nothing but waste paper; only the items obtained in hand were tangible.

The last two items were things Bai Mu hadn't seen in the Script.

One was a permanent active skill card, and the other was something called a T-Type Enhancement Serum. The prices for both items were extremely expensive. The former cost 1,200 Points, while the latter cost 1,300 Points.

Adding the two together brought the total price to 2,500 Points. Before spending anything, and including the 80 Points left over from the first Script, Bai Mu only had 2,360 Points. Even his entire net worth wasn't enough to buy both.

'I have 1,460 Points left. I haven't reached E-grade yet and haven't unlocked the Player Trading Market. If I want to earn Points through trading, I can basically only trade with friends,' Bai Mu calculated in his mind.

'But apart from that Wall-nut plant card, I don't really want to part with any of the items on me. This Wall-nut card probably wouldn't sell anyway, and even if someone did want it, it would sell for 100 Points at most.'

'It's almost impossible to scrape together over 1,000 Points in a short time. Moreover, after clearing Journey of Death, the Deserted Island Survival Script Shop was refreshed even though its time wasn't up yet. Wanting to gather Points through the main Scripts is clearly unrealistic. When I clear the next main Script, the Journey of Death shop will definitely be refreshed too.'

'I better just give up on one of these two items and choose only one to buy.'

Bai Mu sat down, facing the shop page, and carefully considered his options. The active skill card was named "Charger's Charge," and it was a Rare-grade skill. Tapping on the skill card revealed its effects:

[Skill Name: Charger's Charge]

[Skill Category: Active Skill]

[Effect: Summons a Charger at your location that lasts for up to 60 seconds. It will charge in a straight line toward your chosen direction or a single target, attempting to smash the first target it hits into a wall. If there are no walls along the charging path, the Charger will slam the target into the ground after traveling a certain distance.]

[Cost: 30% Stamina]

[Learning Requirement: None]

[Remark: The Charger is the only special infected that still remembers how to speak. But few know that before the infection, he was just an ordinary farmer. He had a happy family, but he ruined everything with his own hands. He charges at everything he can see, even if his head gets squashed by obstacles on the road. Or perhaps, his original intention was simply to bash his head against a wall and die.]

This was an active attack skill with a very strong effect. Bai Mu had seen the Charger's charge firsthand; it had even twisted steel gangways. When it ran, it was comparable to a small car. This skill could be understood as summoning a small car on the spot with the gas pedal slammed to the floor. Not only could it be used to attack, but it could also be used to clear obstacles.

Bai Mu rather liked this skill. The effect of the other enhancement serum was a bit more direct.

[Item Name: T-Type Enhancement Serum]

[Price: 1,300 Points]

[Type: Active Consumable]

[Quality: Rare]

[Effect: After the user injects this serum, they will gain a special infected bloodline. The special infected bloodline will retain the user's mind, but their physical appearance will undergo partial changes. Additionally, they will gain an enhancement ability from a special infected along with a corresponding attribute boost. The user will become more sensitive to light and sound.]

[Item Quantity: 1/1]

[Remark: An enhancement serum extracted by the military from the bodies of special infected. They tried to create enhanced soldiers but ultimately failed. The first batch of test subjects merely turned into the same monsters. However, at the very least, it was proven to be genuinely effective.]

Looking at the serum's introduction, it practically turned the Player into a superhuman. The abilities of Mutants were already beyond those of ordinary people, but the effect was random. It would select one at random from all the Mutants.

If it rolled a Hunter, Witch, or Charger, it would naturally be a massive profit. Even a Tank might be included among the special infected.

Bai Mu had never cared much about his appearance. For the past ten years in the apocalypse, he had frequently fantasized about possessing all kinds of superpowers just like the Mutants.

But if it randomly rolled one of the other four types, turning him into a shorty, a bloated fatty, a long-tongued monster, or an acid-spitting Mutant, it would be quite a loss.

It was a fifty-fifty chance. No matter which one was rolled, the boost from the enhancement serum came very directly, but its side effects couldn't be ignored.

After thinking it over, Bai Mu finally bought the skill card.

If he were a low-rated Player who couldn't obtain many resources to begin with, the enhancement serum would naturally be impossible to pass up.

Summoning a Charger for 60 seconds was nowhere near as long-lasting as becoming a Charger himself.

But he had confidence in himself. In the short term, acquiring a special infected bloodline might provide a huge boost, but ultimately, it was only a bloodline from a D-grade Script. In higher-grade Scripts, superpowers like spitting acid or extending a long tongue would probably just be a joke.

If he had extra Points, he could have bought it and listed it on the Player Trading Market. He felt sure someone would take a liking to it, but he had no spare cash on hand, so he opted for the skill card instead.

[You have purchased the item "Active Skill Card (Charger's Charge)".]

[You have mastered the active skill "Charger's Charge".]
