Chapter 491: Power Contract. |
Julia has recovered her soul essence, and Roy has successfully obtained the divinity of the Mobius Ring. His mission in this world has been accomplished, and it can even be said to have been exceeded.
At the moment, Roy is not very familiar with the control of authority, so he is somewhat impatient to return to the Abyss. For him, Sparda and Dante's concerns are entirely unnecessary.
"Don't look at me like that!" Roy said to Sparda, "This is the Heavenly World, so the situation is still manageable. But once I enter the Human World, even if I don't want to leave, the world's will may not allow it!"
Hearing Roy's words, Sparda breathed a sigh of relief and nodded, "I hope you don't mind, Osiris... Your Majesty! After all, I've spent a long time in the human world, and it's like a second homeland to me. I don't want it to be harmed..."
Roy was in a good mood at the moment, so he teased, "Haha, aren't you worried that without me, those demons in the Demon World will have no one to suppress them?"
Sparda's expression froze, and he smiled bitterly, "That's for sure. Several Demon Kings have already died. Lady Trish and the others might follow you back to the Abyss. Without their leaders, those who aspire to take their place will inevitably fight for power and territory. The Demon World is likely to be chaotic for a while."
"Old man, why not reseal the Demon World?" Dante suddenly spoke up.
But Vergil promptly interjected, "It's useless, Dante. Haven't you noticed? Even if the Demon World is truly sealed, there will always be people in the Human World trying to break the seal."
Dante snorted in retort, "And that person you're talking about is yourself, right?"
Taking advantage of the silence, Sparda finally spoke up, "There's no need for further sealing. Dante and the others will be responsible for dealing with the demons entering the human world..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Sareth interrupted with a peculiar expression, "By the way, is your decision not to reseal the Demon World because you don't want your son to lose his job?"
True, Dante is a demon hunter. If the Demon World is really sealed, with no more demon invasions, he might actually end up begging for food...
Hearing this, Dante became somewhat embarrassed and irritated, grabbing Sareth and messing up his red hair.
As for Sparda's decision, Roy didn't express agreement or disagreement. After all, once he left this world, he wouldn't have any control over what would happen next. So he turned to Bayonetta and Jeanne.
These two witches actually gave Roy a better impression than Sparda's group. After all, as contract holders, witches have more connections with demons. Roy asked, "Even if they are Umbra Witches, this Heavenly World should still have some connection with the higher heavens. The fall of Julielle, the Archangel, is definitely a major event for the higher heavens. Maybe soon, a new Archangel will be sent to your world. At that time, you witches will surely become the primary targets. What are your thoughts on this?"
Bayonetta had been observing Roy's current appearance and immediately shook her head, saying, "It's not that easy for those angels to kill us. You don't need to worry about that. However... if possible, I hope to make a contract with you, allowing me to borrow your power in this world."
"Oh!?" Roy asked with interest, "So, what price are you willing to pay?"
"The price is the souls of high-ranking angels!" Bayonetta placed her hands on her hips and said, "Believe me, even for a witch who has long been in contact with demons, a powerful demon king like you is a rare encounter. If we can make a contract, I promise that every time I borrow your power, I will offer three souls of high-ranking angels as tribute to you!"
"Hmm..." Roy used his large fingers to stroke his chin, pondering for a while.
For Roy, the sacred souls of high-ranking angels were not particularly useful, as they couldn't satisfy his hunger or be used to absorb and increase his magical power. Unlike those fanatical demons whose mission is to destroy angels, he lacked the inherent sense of honor attributed to demons. Nevertheless, high-ranking angel souls could still be considered as a resource. Now that Roy had become a Demon King and reached the top tier in the Abyss, such resources could potentially be exchanged with other Demon Kings for valuable items.
"Okay!" Roy finally made a decision, saying, "I allow you to borrow my power in this world!"
The rest of the matter unfolded logically. Roy and Bayonetta signed a pact, which stipulated that Bayonetta could only borrow Roy's power in this world, and the borrowing would be tiered. For every ten percent of power borrowed, Bayonetta had to offer three souls of high-ranking angels as tribute. These angel souls had to be at least of the level of the Four-Winged Angels. The higher the percentage of power borrowed, the corresponding tribute would double.
If Bayonetta wanted to use all of Roy's power, she would have to offer him at least thirty sacred souls for each usage! This was already a considerable number. Even in this long-standing Heavenly World, gathering so many Four-Winged Angel souls would be quite challenging...
Sareth and the others watched in silence as Bayonetta and Roy formed the contract. They didn't voice any objections. While they believed that humans borrowing power from demons or even Demon Kings could be risky, this was still the world of the witches. It didn't directly concern their world. The primary connection between the twin worlds lay in the Abyss. As long as the witches didn't cross boundaries, there shouldn't be any issues.
Moreover, they believed that witches, who had long dealt with demons, would not be ignorant of the dangers posed by demons. They should be more cautious when dealing with demon powers. The power contract formed between Bayonetta and Roy might be more about increasing their advantages and protecting themselves from angelic attacks.
Soon, the contract was completed. At the moment the power contract was established, Roy sensed Bayonetta's location very clearly and the spatial connection between them. In other words, if Roy delved deeper into the study of spatial powers, he might be able to use this contract's connection to appear beside Bayonetta, bypassing the world's will and appearing in her world in a special way.
Naturally, this was a loophole in the rules. However, unfortunately, Bayonetta was well aware of the existence of such loopholes. As a witch who had signed power contracts with many demons, these kinds of loopholes were easily detectable. Therefore, Roy's feeling only lasted for a second or two, and in the next moment, it disappeared. He could no longer accurately sense Bayonetta's spatial location!
Perhaps Bayonetta had used a secret technique exclusive to witches to cause this.
Bayonetta and Roy formed the power contract, but Jeanne didn't. As Bayonetta's best friend, she felt the need to be cautious and not sign a contract with the same demon as Bayonetta did.
With these matters settled, the most important thing remaining was finding a way to separate the gradually merging Abyssal spaces.
Whether it was the Heaven in Bayonetta's world or the Demon World in Dante's world, although the Abyssal spaces of the twin worlds were once connected, they had been separated for a very long time. If they were to merge again, the impact on both twin worlds would be immense. Apart from the potential conflict between angels and demons, leading to an unending and prolonged war, even the human realms on both sides would likely descend into unimaginable chaos.
Therefore, separating the Abyssal spaces of the two worlds again was the most crucial task for Bayonetta and Dante.
And now, the only one capable of accomplishing this task was Roy, the newly crowned Demon King...
Only those on par with gods could achieve such a tremendous feat, which was why they still gathered around Roy. However, their greatest concern was that Roy might not be willing to undertake such a troublesome task, as demons tended to act according to their whims...
Fortunately, Roy didn't ignore their concerns. For him, separating the merged Abyssal spaces was a perfect opportunity to familiarize himself with the power of "Authority"...
