Chapter 622: What Can Be Done, and What Must Not Be Done |
At that moment, everyone present changed color dramatically.
But because the distance was simply too close, so close that even Doctor 315's quick reflexes could not react in time to that unforeseen opening.
In that instant, within Lynn's strange smile, his right eye bloomed like an evil spirit, as if countless malevolent shades were clawing and shrieking inside it, emitting a piercing, unbearable keening.
A curse!
It was a root-level curse!
Crackle—
At that moment, as if countless pitch-black chains spread out from his Cursed Eye, they instantly coiled around Doctor 315 at close range.
Black blood also flowed from his eye sockets.
"Doctor!!"
But this was only the prelude to everything. Almost simultaneously with the curse's release, the shackles around Alice and Silver Fantasy's necks clicked and opened on their own, and Alice had already been waiting a long time.
Without any hesitation, her small body floated out of that husk like a ghost, transforming into a wraith covered in cracks, with a Pupil-less Eye. A towering tide of Hatred burst forth, and that pale little hand instantly pierced into Doctor 315's forehead, clawing for his brain.
Silver Fantasy was slightly slower.
But at the same moment the shackles were released, a Monomolecular Blade materialized in her hand, coldly piercing straight through that doctor's heart.
"Ah—!!"
A horrific scream echoed through the entire First Chamber.
Outside, meanwhile,
the God of All Machines and Sir Aiwen, who were locked in a titanic battle with the Three Roots, immediately saw the massive Leviathan that had been circling overhead give a sky-shaking roar, as if a grievously wounded whale was twisting wildly.
"They succeeded!"
Sir Aiwen abruptly looked up, his gaze frantic toward the massive Leviathan.
He could clearly feel a huge disturbance in the Leviathan's mental waves. Undoubtedly, the Plague Doctor controlling that Leviathan had been gravely injured.
The huge blood-red pupil in the sky also noticed the Leviathan's change; its eyes darkened in an instant. Without another word, it unleashed its filthy spirit toward the Leviathan. There was no doubt: it intended to rush into the Leviathan and, with its vast Will, directly crush Lynn and the others.
But the God of All Machines and Sir Aiwen would never give it that chance.
Seeing this,
the two exchanged a glance and, without hesitation, united to launch an all-out assault against the Flesh and Blood Dominator, forcing the Dominator to pull back its spirit to resist.
"Your opponent is me!"
The God of All Machines sneered, exhaling cold mists, his enormous dragon head radiating divine might.
The Flesh and Blood Dominator's gaze was indifferent. In a low, hoarse voice he said,
"This is your plan? Do you really think you can cripple my Leviathan by such means? You two underestimate the Plague Doctor collective, and you underestimate my Flesh and Blood Cult."
"I can fight you for an entire lifetime in this war, but you do not have the qualification!"
No more words were exchanged.
The Desire Mother Tree and the Flesh and Blood Dominator glanced at each other, eyes icy, and launched another fierce offensive at these two technological leviathans.
Battles between Roots do not end quickly, for they cannot be killed.
But even if you cannot kill them, removing just one combatant can tip the scales of this war!
And Lynn and the others were the last weight on that balance.
...
Inside the Leviathan.
With that piercing, mournful shriek, the grand performance finally opened its curtain at this last moment.
This mission had always been one of near-impossible odds.
It depended on a single person's effort to face the Leviathan's overwhelming enemies.
And he had finally used this brilliant drama to drive a dagger into the Leviathan's deepest core, into the chest of the final Plague Doctor they had to face.
"Ah—!!"
Amidst the agonized scream,
his body twisted and transformed, unleashing tremendous force. The massive charge of flesh and blood forced Lynn and the other two to leap backward dozens of steps.
Lynn clutched his bleeding right eye, his face still holding a faint smile. He landed lightly on his toes, putting on his Monocle. Alice and Silver Fantasy instantly took positions on either side of him, lifting their heads coldly.
This was a real battle to break the stalemate!
And by expertly reading the human heart, he had seized the moment when his opponent's Will slackened, boldly reversing the move and unleashing a vicious curse upon him.
"It was you!!"
"You are the Night Doctor!"
At this moment, all the Plague Doctor leaders in the First Chamber finally saw the unforeseeable turn and charged forward in fury, shielding the gravely wounded Doctor 315 behind them.
But they could not accept it!
What on earth had happened!
What did all of this mean!
Lynn adjusted his Monocle like a gentleman offering a courteous salute, smiling:
"Thank you all very much for your cooperation. If not for the strong assistance from all of you Seniors, I wouldn't have been able to keep up my disguise until now. Ah! Yes, as you see, I am the second invader you were looking for. I am the most dangerous one. It's just a pity that my objective has already been achieved."
He spoke like a gentleman.
But his words left every Plague Doctor in the First Chamber furious and pale.
The Flesh and Blood movement in Doctor 315 subsided, but even so he was not dead. Staring at his shattered brain and heart, bound tightly in place by those pitch-black chains, he gasped violently and grotesquely:
"Losh!"
"Ah! Sorry, he is already dead, my doctor."
Lynn tipped his hat to him, a faint curl at the corner of his mouth:
"You wouldn't really believe that there's a young man in your Leviathan who cares so wholly for you and is so outstanding, would you? No way. Actually, if you think about it, a low-level worker who has been in your Leviathan for decades, if he truly had the ability and the courage, how could he possibly not have soared earlier or later, and yet suddenly make a stir at this exact moment?"
He tapped his temple with a smile.
"But one thing you are right about: compared to the Night Doctor, I do resemble you more. Only, I know what can be done, and what... cannot be done."
Lynn knew he would doubt.
From his earlier probing he could tell; the man had not completely trusted him. That suspicion did not come from any slip on Lynn's part, but from their knowledge of him.
