    Here's a possible theory what if the people who failed their nightmare were the reason for a gate appearing in the real world... Just like the first nightmare where a gate open when someone fails their first nightmare. Not sure tho it's just my own personal theory as I'm a new reader.

    Whether Nightmare Gates are produced by the Spell or not, there is definitely a connection between the two
    Pure conjecture but I think the spell was created to combat the gates. Or if not the gates themselves, something to do with em.
    if it spreads like a ripple through time, just like the aftershock of a Gate manifesting itself into reality, then it doesn't matter when their Ascension happens
    I think hes right. It would explain things just before and 2nd nightmare.

    The theory is good but this theory has a major flaw that exists in most time related stuff.

    Let's say a Supreme is about to emerge in a few years and because of a ripple in time caused by the Supreme a Category Five Gate appears.
    But now the future Supreme dies by the Category Five Gate so there is no future Supreme but then there should be no ripple in time causing no Category Five Gate to appear, but now the future Supreme won't die so it automatically creates a ripple and so on.

    Basically it's a time paradox.

      That however assumes that it matters whether the supreme dies or not. Its possible that just their appearance causes the ripple. Acasuality was mentioned a bunch of times that could explain it.
      But we're dealing with temporal paradoxes after all, who knows how it really works.
