Chapter 950: Dinner Invitation

It's really Mushu Hospital… Lumian wasn't surprised at all by Xu Xinyang's answer.

He grunted in acknowledgment. "Alright, Team Lead."

He had thought about it. As an important base for evil gods to influence the dream city, and with some degree of cooperation with the Celestial Worthy, Mushu Hospital might be unavoidable for many things to come. It wasn't a matter of cautiously avoiding it or not entering, pretending it didn't exist.

So, rather than that, why not take advantage of the daytime, while their actions hadn't yet reached a critical stage, while he still had another chance to enter, and while he had a reasonable and legitimate excuse, to go take a look and investigate in person. Of course, the underground floors that likely represented the Abyss and Mr. Fool's psychological dark side still couldn't be recklessly entered.

After seeing off Xu Xinyang, Lumian stayed in the surveillance room until almost noon. He and his shift partner Old Xia waited for their colleagues to relieve them, then went downstairs together to the Intis Group staff cafeteria located in the annex building of the Tech Building for lunch.

They didn't get meal allowances, and the cafeteria wasn't free, but it had a wide variety of dishes, and the prices were kept quite cheap through company subsidies. So, whether from headquarters or branch offices, employees in this building all liked eating in the cafeteria. Even Mr. Huang himself would come eat there occasionally to check the quality of the food.

The only problem was that during the lunch rush, the cafeteria was packed. Higher-income employees preferred to order takeout or dine at nearby malls.

As security guards, when they could go to the cafeteria depended on when their colleagues came to relieve them. Everyone tacitly agreed to come a bit earlier to avoid the peak hours.

Lumian got steamed eggs with minced meat, stir-fried yellow chives and meat with pickled peppers, fried chicken leg, cucumber and pork soup, and a big bowl of rice. He found a corner spot with Old Xia and listened to him chat about the antics of the Aurora Company folks while eating.

Old Xia clicked his tongue and said, "Their boss is an exhibitionist, or the M in S&M, often with whip marks on his body…"

Say more, slander some more, I love hearing it… Lumian nodded along while inwardly muttering.

Suddenly, his phone vibrated twice.

He picked it up and saw a message from "A name that leaves a deep impression on you", which was Anderson Hood: "Is that friend you mentioned actually yourself?"

Lumian smiled and replied using voice input: "You could interpret it that way."

He felt that in conversations between Hunters, whoever got anxious first, whoever got angry first, whoever felt guilty first, would lose.

Only by adjusting oneself to a state where nothing mattered could one stand undefeated.

After about 20-30 seconds, Anderson replied: "Painting requires talent, I hope you have it.

"Our tutoring school doesn't have painting classes, but I know a decent studio, that's where I learned. If you're interested, tomorrow night at 7, meet me at the entrance of Jinxiu Dongfang Community on Sifang Street, and I'll take you for a tour."

At night? Lumian pondered for a moment before replying: "Alright, thank you."

He remembered that Colorful Hostel was on Sifang Street, but the interior renovation and decoration hadn't been completed yet.

In the Administrative Department, large office.

Luo Shan stretched lazily, walked over to Franca's desk, and asked with a smile, "What are you eating for lunch? I don't want to join the crowd at the cafeteria."

Without waiting for Franca to respond, she lowered her voice and said, "Other departments all find time to have team dinners to welcome new employees, only our Administrative Department doesn't.

"Mainly because those ladies don't want to or think little of us, which is fine, but the worry is that they'll insist on going, wanting to find some free helpers. Tsk, can you imagine how that would develop? Sarcasm and veiled barbs are the norm, with people crying, arguing, or even wanting to get physical not being uncommon. It left a bunch of trouble to deal with afterward, so Old Zhang simply stopped organizing departmental dinners. Those who get along well just gather privately, however they want."

Franca listened with relish and said expectantly, "I wonder when Mr. Huang will next come to the Administrative Department."

The scene then would surely be spectacular; she wanted to witness it.

Demonesses inevitably tended to have a bit of a chaos-loving inclination, which was very justifiable when it came to watching drama.

"Mr. Huang probably won't come in the next few days. He has VIPs to entertain, and even if he comes to the company, he'll go to the 16th floor," Luo Shan disclosed Mr. Huang's whereabouts.

Zaratulstra? Franca was very attentive and serious about this matter.

Besides the items listed in the action outline, they also had to guard against the Celestial Worthy and evil gods doing bad things to Zhou Mingrui in the dream city. They needed to discover and prevent it early.

Moreover, this could also accumulate inspiration to help them formulate an awakening plan—how the Celestial Worthy's subordinates did it, and they could try to do the opposite.

"What a pity," Franca said with a look of regret.

She then asked curiously, "Won't Mr. Huang bring the VIP to tour the company?"

"He has before," Luo Shan suddenly paused, her voice becoming even lower, "That day Zhou Mingrui happened to be on sick leave. Franca, could that long-named VIP be the destroyer you mentioned, sent from the future to the present by evil forces? Was Zhou Mingrui's sick leave arranged by your people?"

A Painter's spiritual intuition is quite strong… Franca smiled and said, "Is that VIP called Zaratulstra?"

Luo Shan nodded solemnly.

"Then it is," Franca confirmed her earlier guess.

Luo Shan was silent for a few seconds, then her eyes lit up and she said,

"Why don't I ask Zhou Mingrui to have dinner with us? That way you'll have a chance to meet and chat with him."

Holy crap… So fast? So direct? Franca felt a bit shocked.

She had thought it would take her and Lumian a week or two to naturally contact Zhou Mingrui through work matters before reaching a point where they could add each other on WeChat or have casual chats.

Who knew that on her first day of work, Luo Shan would invite Zhou Mingrui to have dinner together!

It's too, too fast…

This progress is too advanced; I'm not ready yet…

Seeing that Franca hadn't answered, Luo Shan smiled and said, "Zhou Mingrui owes me several meals. Every time he asks me for information, he says he'll treat me to a meal next time, but so far he's only done it once.

"Hmm, welcoming my bestie to the company is a good reason."

As she spoke, she picked up her phone and started tapping out a message to Zhou Mingrui.

After a while, Luo Shan waved her phone and said, "He agreed, but said it would be dinner tomorrow, because he has to work overtime tonight, and tech people have too little lunch break time to go eat something nice."

He agreed just like that… No stress reaction, no excuses? Franca suddenly recalled an old saying: The best way to get close to someone is to know the people around them.

Helping Luo Shan was indeed the right choice… This is karma rewarding kindness! Franca pondered for a moment, then said to Luo Shan, "Zhou Mingrui seemed a bit concerned about those paintings you had on your desk before. He didn't refuse your invitation, but agreed to it. Maybe he also wants to confirm or probe something…"

Without waiting for Luo Shan to respond, Franca added, "If that's really the case, it's a good thing."

The only question is, does dinner count as nighttime?

This goes against the plan in the action outline, and could lead to confusion and ambiguity in the experimental results…

It shouldn't count if it's not completely dark, right?

At 4:30 in the afternoon, after another round of patrolling the floors, Lumian and Old Xia came to the underground parking lot of the Tech Building. They saw Team Lead Xu Xinyang sitting in a dark gray SUV, reaching out from the passenger seat and waving at them.

"Over here."

Lumian and Old Xia walked over and sat in the spacious back seat.

"Just us few?" Old Xia looked out the window.

Xu Xinyang laughed.

"Who goes to visit patients at a hospital in a big group? The nurses wouldn't let us in!

"Just the four of us, Zhao is driving, the others will wait directly at the dinner place."

Zhao was the young man sitting in the driver's seat, looking a bit chubby from the side.

At this time, the roads were still fairly clear. Before 5 o'clock, Lumian and the others had arrived outside Mushu Hospital.

Two young men each carrying a box of fruit and a bag of nutritional supplements followed behind Xu Xinyang and Old Xia as they walked in.

The lobby of Mushu Hospital was no different from when Lumian last came, ordinary, with people coming and going. Only occasionally could one notice certain orderlies with indifferent gazes and slightly mechanical movements.

Lumian withdrew his gaze, confirming that his spirituality gave no warning and there were no abnormalities around, then entered the elevator going up and arrived on the 12th floor.

Exiting the elevator area and turning into the ward, after pushing open the door, what met his eyes was a quiet nurses' station and a corridor extending into darkness.

The light at the end of the corridor seemed to be broken, not yet repaired.

Led by a nurse who looked very normal, they entered a double patient room where Old Wang and Old Ding were.

Before Lumian, Zhao, and Old Xia could get a clear look at the patients' condition, two bedside family members rushed in front of Xu Xinyang, speaking one after another:

"Team Lead Xu, this is definitely a work-related injury for our Old Wang!"

"Boohoo, Team Lead Xu, our Old Ding almost died, look at him, look at him, who knows how long it will take to recover."

"…"

Xu Xinyang finally found an opportunity and pressed his right hand down.

"Ladies, this will definitely count as a work injury. Mr. Huang said that not only will there be compensation according to national standards, but the company will also give an additional sum, as well as cover all medical expenses beyond insurance, and continue to pay normal wages until Old Wang and Old Ding fully recover and can return to work. We won't let one of us bleed, sweat, and cry!"

While Xu Xinyang was comforting the family members, Lumian and the others turned their gaze to the hospital beds, seeing the two patients wrapped from head to toe in white bandages, with only their eyes, noses, and mouths exposed.

Old Xia couldn't help but lean close to Lumian and say in a low voice, "I don't mean to be unkind, but they really look funny like this. I thought only TV shows wrapped people up like this. Didn't expect to see it in real life too."

Lumian didn't respond to Old Xia, because he thought of mummies.

Mummies that were said to have close connections with the Wraith pathway controlled by the Mother Tree of Desire.

And this was Mushu Hospital.

    (81) Chapter 965: Experimenting Again

Lumian concealed himself in the hallway, behind a glass object, observing Li Ke Ji's hospital room through the hard barrier. He had maintained this position for several hours, occasionally adjusting slightly to relax.

He had waited all night, but neither Zaratulstra nor any other servants of the Celestial Worthy had come to eliminate Li Ke Ji.

Time passed, and as sunlight entered from the other end of the hallway, the psychiatric ward gradually became lively. Some patients sang loudly, others banged on doors, and some knocked on something as if calling for breakfast.

At this moment, Lumian noticed a large amount of milky white liquid seeping out from the gap between the door and the solid floor of Li Ke Ji's room.

    Milk? Lumian's eyes narrowed slightly.

A second later, he saw the milky white liquid that he had suspected to be milk recede back into Li Ke Ji's room like a tide, leaving the floor clean again, only with traces of moisture at different levels.

    Lumian silently observed.

A few minutes later, with his keen eyesight, he noticed something indescribable and unclear at the door of the hospital room.

Carefully, he pressed his face against the glass and peered outside.

In an instant, the scene before him broke free from the reflective illusion and became clearer.

He immediately saw faint, relatively distinct white strands, followed by noticing even finer, indistinct white thread-like objects around them.

These objects resembled intertwined, faded snowflakes, or perhaps countless white feathers tangled together.

Compared to the threads of the Demoness's web, these were dull, tinted, and could be discerned with close inspection.

    "Fungal hyphae?" Lumian speculated.

He reached this conclusion by combining Li Ke Ji's unique characteristics.

After a few seconds, the fungal hyphae collectively retreated, disappearing into the hallway through the door gap.

In Lumian's mind, an image naturally formed:

A strange, enormous humanoid mushroom, no, a colossal mushroom, approached the door and carefully extended its fungal hyphae outside, though its intentions were unclear.

    Lumian fell silent once more.

    He pondered a question seriously:

Would it be a good or bad thing if Zaratulstra and the other servants of the Celestial Worthy eliminated Li Ke Ji?

As long as they were prevented from taking Li Ke Ji's body to the hospital's underground morgue, where the Mother's power could be used to resurrect him, the entire situation might not be so unacceptable.

Hmm, the mushroom man Frank Lee at the Dream City seemed to be more terrifying and bizarre in the Mr. Fool’s perception than in reality. If they lost control, it was uncertain who would benefit.

No, no, fire is also extremely dangerous, but it can be used to one's advantage.

This guy is better suited to be confined in a psychiatric ward, to be released when needed, or to be used to harness the power of those special mushrooms.

But can a psychiatric ward really contain him? Should we consider helping him into a prison, where the government, under the Dream City's primary consciousness, could keep him in check?

However, doing so would make it extremely troublesome for us to use him, and besides, he doesn’t seem like someone without mental issues. Franca explained that in Dream City, mentally ill people like him don’t need to be imprisoned; they just receive long-term treatment in psychiatric hospitals.

Lumian withdrew his face from the glass, creating a distance.

By 10 a.m., he saw Huang Jia, Huang Beibei, accompanied by Dunn, and a doctor in a white coat entering the ward.

Only then did he relax and, through the rearview mirror of a car parked underground, teleport back to the rented room in Tin Hong District.

At this time, Anthony was in isolation, Ludwig had been taken away by Jenna, and Lumian casually ate some bread before preparing to catch up on sleep.

Just as he lay down, he felt his phone vibrate with a message from "The Hidden Blade":

"Zaratulstra is visiting the corporation again, currently on the 16th floor, and hasn't come down yet."

Zaratulstra isn't affected by the letter of accusation? The letter must have evidence, or else the police would need to investigate for a period, gather sufficient evidence, and only then arrest the foreign guest? Zaratulstra is still very cautious; this foreign guest identity is quite advantageous... Lumian sat on the bed, pondering and weighing his options, before sending a message to Franca:

"No need to disturb Zaratulstra's visit, but remind Zhou Mingrui to be cautious through Luo Shan."

At Intis Corporation, in the administrative department.

Franca sent a message to Luo Shan:

"If that person comes to visit the technical department later, make sure to remind Zhou Mingrui to be careful.

"For now, don't rush; if the enemy chooses to visit another department or subsidiary, alerting Zhou Mingrui too early might make him overly suspicious, constantly on guard against everyone around him. This could severely affect his mental state."

Luo Shan responded with a "nodding cat" emoji.

To their surprise, Mr. Huang did not bring Zaratulstra to visit other departments; they remained on the 16th floor until noon before leaving via a private elevator.

"Alert lifted, the enemy didn't contact the target, and Luo Shan didn't give a warning." Franca took advantage of the lunch break to update Lumian on the situation.

    Lumian quickly replied:

"Then this afternoon, I'll proceed with the plan to subtly hint at Zhou Mingrui's supernatural abilities, advancing it slightly. You, Jenna, and Anthony, from now on, don't contact me. Delete our chat records, even my WeChat and QQ accounts. Re-add me tomorrow afternoon."

"Does this have anything to do with Anthony's investigation into Peng Deng? If he gets into trouble, we won’t know whether it's because of Peng Deng or something related to you." Franca raised a detailed question.

"It won't. I isolated myself from him last night, so our experimental results won't affect each other." Lumian had prepared thoroughly for this.

Returning to "Luo Fu's" body, Franca began making preparations.

At 4 p.m., Lumian arrived at Intis Corporation early for a pre-dinner meal.

Afterward, he and Old Xia took over from their colleagues, patrolling the floors.

After completing this task, they replaced the colleagues who were busy in the cafeteria, monitoring the situation.

Lumian appeared to be observing the different floors, but his focus was entirely on the internal operations of Intis Corporation, specifically on the 10th-floor department.

Finally, he saw Zhou Mingrui leave his post, exit the technical department, and enter the corridor leading to the restroom.

Lumian immediately stood up, holding his stomach, and said to Old Xia:

"I ate something too spicy earlier; I need to use the bathroom."

Before Old Xia could respond, he left the observation room.

Old Xia leaned over and looked at his departing figure, almost muttering:

"Only a week on the job and already pretending to need the restroom?"

In the corridor above, Lumian avoided two security personnel coming out of the elevator, entered the stairwell, blended into the shadows, and quickly descended.

In less than thirty seconds, he had already reached the tenth floor.

Then, he pretended that he was checking out a problem he discovered during a previous patrol and openly walked into the hallway between the administrative and technical departments, heading toward the restroom.

He glanced in both directions and quickly walked into the men's restroom.

At this moment, Zhou Mingrui was standing at the sink, washing his hands.

Lumian glanced around the restroom, confirming that no one was at the urinals and that one of the four stalls appeared to be locked.

Zhou Mingrui turned around and happened to see him.

Lumian took out a lighter and smiled.

His thumb hovered over the lighter, repeatedly pressing down without making contact, but the lighter emitted a series of bright red flames.

Seeing this, Zhou Mingrui, who was already anxious, immediately tensed up.

Is this supernatural power or some kind of magic?

Lumian stepped back two steps, placed his other hand on the frame of the men's restroom door, and silently activated a black mark on his body.

    “Bottle of Fiction!”

He isolated the area around the sink and the restroom from the outside space.

Lumian looked at Zhou Mingrui, who seemed ready to cause trouble at any moment, and smiled slightly:

"I once drank a drink called the Hunter."

So you are indeed a problem... Zhou Mingrui’s eyes narrowed, confirming the suspicions and worries he had held for many days.

Lumian tilted his head towards the urinal area:

"I'm here to remind you to be careful of that foreign guest named Zaratulstra."

Zaratulstra... Zhou Mingrui engraved this long name into his memory.

He had once been a technical staff member, assigned by Director Huang to receive Zaratulstra, responsible for translation and guiding, but due to mechanical issues with the flight or a severe storm, he was never able to meet the guest.

Later, due to illness, he took leave and missed Zaratulstra’s first visit to the company.

Subsequently, he learned about Zaratulstra's appearance through company promotional videos and photos.

Being reminded by Lumian, Zhou Mingrui suddenly recalled that yesterday, Luo Shan had warned him to be cautious, mentioning that the elderly man speaking English at the business class door was likely Zaratulstra.

"Luo Shan's warning also pointed to Zaratulstra?

"How did she know Zaratulstra was visiting the Dream Tutoring Classes?

"Right, Li Ming was also there yesterday...

"Li Ming and Luo Shan, are they in cahoots? Luo Fu joined just one day after Lý Minh..."

As these thoughts ran through Zhou Mingrui’s mind, Lumian didn’t clarify further, dispelled the "Bottle of Fiction," and walked out of the men's restroom.

Zhou Mingrui watched his retreating figure, suddenly feeling that the undercurrents around him were much more powerful and dangerous than he had anticipated, far more exaggerated.

After another patrol of the floor, Lumian stood by the office window, watching the last bit of golden-red sunset being swallowed by darkness.

    Night had officially arrived.

At this time, Luo Shan, Luo Fu, and Zhou Mingrui had all left work, with the latter having just left a few minutes ago.

Lumian looked at the brightly lit buildings, raised his chin slightly, and smiled as he awaited the possibility to be banished."

This time, if he were kicked out of the Dream, Zaratulstra would likely not escape either.

One for one—a very worthy trade!

    (80) Chapter 964: A Bit Special

Peng Deng went to work in the building across the street.

Jenna walked over to the gray car nearby and saw Ludwig stepping out as the car door opened.

She nodded to Anthony, who was in the driver's seat, and led Ludwig to a nearby café.

Based on Peng Deng’s profession, they had devised a contact plan:

If they had the money, they could buy a house and then go to Peng Deng’s company for design advice. Using skills in "hypnosis" or "suggestion," they could "assign" Peng Deng as their designer.

From there, they could discuss the design style and concept with Peng Deng, sign a contract, and then have multiple opportunities to meet, review the plans, visit the site, and gradually become familiar with him. Ultimately, they could determine if he had any issues and where those issues might be.

However, they unfortunately didn’t have that kind of money.

If they really had the money to buy a house, they would directly hire a Magic Mirror Arrodes to ask it detailed questions about Peng Deng, which would be simpler and more convenient.

So, Anthony only planned to execute the first part of the plan—pretending to own a house, using the renovation as an excuse to seek advice, and using his hypnosis abilities to make the company's general manager order Peng Deng to meet with him. He would then leave under the pretense of reconsidering, without signing any contract.

If Anthony's plan failed and Peng Deng was unavailable or was meeting a client and assigned another designer, Jenna would carry out the second part of the plan.

Jenna took Ludwig into the café, chose a seat near the window, ordered a cappuccino, a pure fruit juice, a small cake, and some bread. She then looked at the little boy in front of her, falling into deep thought:

"Every time we need to carry out a reconnaissance mission, someone has to bring him along. It’s really troublesome...

"He can indeed be very useful, but his childlike appearance, psychological state, and perception mean he can’t act alone. We also can’t trust the ordinary people of Dreamscape City...

"Maybe we should find an elementary school to enroll him in, so during the day, we don’t have to watch over him, and we can just pick him up when the time comes."

Ludwig suddenly had a bad feeling while Jenna was lost in thought, but when the cake arrived, he immediately smiled and picked up a fork and spoon.

Jenna thought for a moment and gave up on the idea of sending Ludwig to elementary school.

It wasn’t like his previous training classes, which only lasted half an hour with breaks and where parents were present. This would require him to stay in school all day, unless he was given the Traveler’s Bag, but there was no way to provide him with enough food otherwise.

At that time, would another classmate be the food?

Meanwhile, Anthony saw Peng Deng enter the building.

After 9 o'clock, confirming that Peng Deng hadn’t left, he got out of the car, entered the building, took the elevator, and arrived at a company called "Thịnh Duy Design." Anthony told the receptionist:

"I called earlier for a consultation and made an appointment."

The receptionist checked the records and led Anthony to a meeting room.

Soon, the head of the design company arrived and had a brief chat with Anthony, confirming the style he wanted.

During this process, Anthony deliberately mentioned Peng Deng, saying he had seen this designer’s works and real-life results on the company’s marketing account, which he felt perfectly matched his vision.

Without a doubt, while saying these things, Anthony looked into the manager’s eyes and used a simple hypnosis technique. During the previous phone conversation, he had also used psychological methods for guidance but couldn’t perform direct hypnosis.

"Please rest here; I’ll find the designer for you." The manager stood up and left the meeting room, while an assistant brought Anthony a glass of water and some fruit.

About ten minutes later, Anthony saw Peng Deng appear at the entrance.

Peng Deng had black hair and brown eyes, an ordinary appearance, styled hair with some parts sticking out, wearing a trendy black T-shirt, and holding a laptop.

Anthony stood up calmly, showing no signs of anything unusual.

After the manager introduced them, Anthony and Peng Deng chatted, mainly about Anthony’s needs. Peng Deng listened, occasionally asking more in-depth questions to understand the details.

After talking for a while, Peng Deng manipulated his notebook and said:

"I’ve found a few designs. See if they match the feeling you’re looking for."

Soon, Anthony saw a set of designs:

A modern living room with golden sunlight streaming in through the window, making it bright and clean. A vase was displayed in just the right spot, holding a bouquet of fresh flowers. On either side hung a set of paintings—one with sparse, graceful trees and the other with vibrant green fields...

Anthony suddenly felt that this was exactly what he wanted.

Peng Deng then displayed several more drawings, all in a similar style, and each seemed to perfectly match Anthony’s desires.

Did he really grasp my innermost expectations for the scene just from the earlier phone description and face-to-face interaction? Isn’t this a bit special? Anthony didn’t immediately express his thoughts and continued discussing how to present the designs as a whole and how the designer’s fees would be charged.

After chatting for a bit longer, Anthony stood up and said, "I need some time to think."

"Alright," Peng Deng didn’t try to persuade him, seeing Anthony off at the company’s entrance.

Anthony left the building, crossed the street, and passed by the café where Jenna and Ludwig were sitting.

As they made eye contact through the glass window, Anthony nodded slightly.

Then, he headed straight for the gray car he had rented.

Jenna withdrew her gaze and continued watching Ludwig eat.

Based on their prior agreement, she understood without needing to guess what Anthony meant with that slight nod:

He had met Peng Deng and made contact. Now, he would isolate himself until dawn tomorrow to see if anything unusual happened.

After a busy period, Luo Shan started slacking off.

She picked up her phone and sent a message to "The Hidden Blade":

"Do you need me to hint to Zhou Mingrui about his special nature?"

Sitting at a nearby desk, Franca hesitated for a moment before replying:

    "Not for now.

"Wait until my team and I can’t act, then you can do it."

Franca was worried that if Luo Shan hinted too deeply, she might also encounter something unusual. While their group might be ejected from Dreamscape, the Dreamscape characters could suddenly die on the spot or get hit by a bus after work.

She was more inclined to have Luo Shan play the role of her assistant for now, supporting her in hinting to Zhou Mingrui.

Luo Shan was about to say something else when Deputy General Manager Zhang Qing stepped out of his office, clapping his hands as he said:

"President Huang will be here shortly to bring that distinguished guest on a tour of the company..."

Suddenly, a flurry of activity began as many employees pulled out their makeup bags and picked up their compact mirrors.

That Distinguished Guest from Last Time? Franca used her phone to ask Luo Shan:

    "Is it Zaratulstra?"

"It should be. He’s the only distinguished guest recently, involved in some subsidiary consolidation, mergers, acquisitions, and a large deal." Luo Shan quickly replied, "What should we do now?"

She was implying whether they should let Zaratulstra come into contact with Zhou Mingrui.

Didn’t Lumian report Zaratulstra yesterday? The police had no evidence, so they couldn’t restrict his freedom? Zaratulstra visited Zhou Mingrui at the training center yesterday and is coming to the company today. What is he planning? Sigh, Lumian wasn’t wrong—passive resistance easily leads to problems. It’s better to take the initiative to eliminate hidden dangers... Franca stared at her phone, her mind racing.

After nearly a minute, she responded to Luo Shan:

"Don’t rush. Let me assess the situation before deciding. Just be ready to assist me.

"Don’t worry. With so many people in the company watching, Zaratulstra can’t do anything."

If worst comes to worst, she thought, I’ll just quit my job and dump a glass of water on Zaratulstra or President Huang’s lap!

Seeing that Luo Fu didn’t take out a mirror or apply makeup, several nearby employees withdrew their scrutinizing gazes, reassured, and focused on their own tasks.

Not long after, the team announced President Huang’s itinerary:

"President Huang is bringing the distinguished guest to the 16th floor!"

    ***

At the 16th floor of the High-Tech Building.

In a room filled with various antique objects, Huang Tao, dressed casually, sat with Zaratulstra, who was in formal attire, and opened a bottle of Aurmir red wine.

"You said you bought a very strange mirror?" Huang Tao continued the earlier conversation.

    Zaratulstra smiled and said:

"Yes, it has a kind of magic. It allows us to see our true selves."

As he spoke, the elderly man’s deep green eyes, almost black, subtly shifted. From his formal attire, he took out a mirror with a classic design, luxurious style, and small gemstones embedded in it.

At this moment, both Huang Tao’s and Zaratulstra’s attendants were left outside the room. Only a few security personnel stood at the entrance, not approaching them.

"Look, this is what I see in the mirror." Zaratulstra placed the mirror in front of him.

Huang Tao leaned closer and saw that the reflection in the mirror was not the elderly Zaratulstra but a man in his thirties with black hair and ordinary features.

Is this not a mirror enhanced by artificial intelligence? Based on his experience and understanding, Huang Tao muttered to himself.

"Do you want to try it?" Zaratulstra asked him.

"Sure." Huang Tao, a bit intrigued, took the mirror and silently inspected the item for any hidden buttons or unusual materials in the glass.

He didn’t find anything suspicious, so he hesitantly brought the mirror up to his face.

He immediately saw himself in the mirror. But it wasn’t what he had expected at all.

In the mirror, he was a woman, wearing an elaborate golden crown, with slightly curly long brown hair, deep blue eyes, a high-bridged nose, and slightly pale lips. Her appearance was enchanting, with a kind of indescribable allure.

Huang Tao was momentarily stunned, as if he had seen his inner self.

Starting today, Lumian only attended the upper-level classes before arriving at the company by 4:30.

And since late last night, he had been using the world within the mirror, sneaking into a hospital called "Red Moon," where Li Ke Ji was currently being held.

    (79) Chapter 963: Midnight

Lumian found in the materials provided by the Major Arcana cards that the archetypal figure for Yagates from the first police station was likely the old teacher of Madam Magician, the Grand Duke of the Tudor Empire, the most powerful in the fourth epoch Angel King, Mr. Door – Bethel Abraham.

And in this introduction, there is a very crucial hypothesis:

It is suspected that He is the unique symbol of "Apprentice" pathway's is the Dreamscape.

Similarly, it is speculated that Amon is also the unique symbol of the "Marauder" pathway, but often it is the true entity.

This is because Amon was once the True God of the "Marauder" pathway, having occupied this unique pathway for thousands of years, leaving a strong spiritual imprint corresponding to the uniqueness. It can even be said that, for a very long time, Amon was synonymous with the "Marauder" pathway's uniqueness.

Therefore, until Amon's spiritual imprint on the "Marauder" pathway's uniqueness is completely worn away, Amon remains closely connected to this uniqueness, allowing him to freely enter and exit this Dreamscape city. Even if discovered by the Celestial Worthy, kicked out, he could re-enter without any restrictions.

The "Marauder" pathway's uniqueness is a part of this real Dreamscape, meaning that Amon is also part of it. If the Celestial Worthy wants to prevent Amon from entering again or to impose comprehensive restrictions, he cannot do anything. According to the Major Arcana's conjecture, there are only three ways:

One is to give up the "Marauder" pathway's uniqueness and divide it, the second is to quickly wear away the part of Amon's spiritual imprint in the uniqueness, and the third is to reach an agreement with Mr. Fool, jointly rejecting Amon.

Obviously, none of these three methods can work—the most feasible second method requires the Celestial Worthy to occupy an overwhelming advantage in the dream, almost half-awake. Otherwise, in a deep sleep, while fiercely opposing Mr. Fool, even if he is a great being, it is impossible to completely wear away Amon's spiritual imprint on the "Marauder" uniqueness in a short time.

Of course, Amon is still restricted in the Dreamscape city. As for how he is restricted, the Major Arcana cards don't know. They can only deduce from Amon's actions that he is not without any scruples.

Similarly, the "Apprentice" pathway's uniqueness also has the spiritual imprint of Mr. Door left behind, forming Yagates's image in this Dreamscape.

—Although Amon once assimilated the "Apprentice" pathway, making him a dual-pathway True God, he stayed at this level for an extremely short time, obviously unable to completely wear away Mr. Door's spiritual imprint.

Lumian shrank back and immediately disappeared from his original spot, passing straight through to the other side of the mirror, leaving behind a few calm black flames, burning away any remaining traces.

This is the symbol of the Door pathway's uniqueness, looking into the world within the mirror certainly has a certain degree of control. Staying in front of the mirror for long would inevitably lead to exposure!

A second or two later, Lumian moved to the next target location.

Apprentice pathway's uniqueness Dreamscape image is Yagates, Marauder pathway's uniqueness Dreamscape image is Amon... "Seer" pathway's uniqueness Dreamscape image is Zhou Mingrui, who is also the core of the struggle between Mr. Fool and the Celestial Worthy? As Lumian thought about this, he disappeared, hiding in the darkness.

He patiently waited for a while, making sure no one was tracking him before approaching the crystal mirror and peeking outside.

The outside was similarly an office, and no one was there at the moment.

    This was Dunn's police office.

Lumian took out an anonymous letter and let it "float."

The letter immediately flew out of the mirror, heading toward Dunn's desk.

As soon as it touched the wooden desk, a black flame suddenly extended from the mirror, quickly burning toward it, illuminating the densely packed invisible spider webs that bound it. The black flame wrapped around the letter, lighting up the remaining traces, burning part of the spider webs, while the rest retracted behind the mirror.

Lumian once again changed his position, passing through the third mirror.

The outside was still an office, belonging to another policeman, Wang William.

He was an extremely powerful officer, corresponding to the real character of William Augustus I, a deceased former king of the Loen Kingdom.

The Major Arcana cards had some doubts, Mr. Fool's incarnations in the world had no connection with William Augustus I, so why did this dead king have a corresponding image in the Dreamscape city?

A similar situation existed with William Augustus I, Henry Augustus I, and several other ancestors of the Augustus family, who were "alive" in the Dreamscape city police station or courthouse as the king.

The Major Arcana cards could only surmise that Mr. Fool still had many ancient incarnations.

Since the officers were probably in a meeting or on a mission, Wang William's office was also empty, and Lumian successfully stored the anonymous letter, accidentally entered another office, and dropped the last letter without risking going to Yagates's place again.

After that, he returned to the Star Dream Provisions Store, exiting through the mirror associated with Arrodes's area.

"Could I borrow paper and pen again?" Lumian politely asked as he approached the counter.

The shopkeeper placed the previously used paper and pen on the counter.

Lumian began writing a letter to the Major Arcana cards, with the letter focusing on three main points:

First, he reminded the Major Arcana cards to pay attention to Luo Shan in the real world, providing necessary protection; second, he asked them to confirm Anderson Hood's real situation; and third, he informed them about Frank Lee being caught.

After sending the letter and saying thank you, Lumian returned to the gray car.

Anthony and Ludwig had already returned.

Before Anthony started the car, Lumian briefly mentioned Stiano's possible identity.

Anthony remained silent for a while, then started the car, sighing as he spoke:

"Gods also have moments of weakness, and they once had stages like ours... This truly is the pathway of Gods; it makes me feel that gods are no longer so distant, no longer innately noble, or naturally divine...

"Disenchantment?" Lumian asked, using a newly learned word.

Anthony tapped the steering wheel and said:

"Maybe the Gods are indeed fighting against the Evil Gods, protecting the people...

"I remember that in the industrial cities on the west coast of Gian Sea, those cloaked clergy would regularly hold rituals in the factories. Now it seems more like they were checking and repairing the entire factory. Machines were truly being used, and the clergy's close proximity to the front line was packaged as holy rituals..."

Anthony rambled on about the religious stories he had heard as a child and the religious rituals he had experienced as an adult. Lumian quietly listened, occasionally echoing a word or two.

    ***

Dechuang Garden, Building 5, Room 1502.

Luo Shan was extremely happy when she noticed that Franca had returned to normal.

She curiously asked, "How did you feel at that moment?"

"It was like I couldn’t breathe, as if I were a fish being pulled out of water, someone being thrown out of this world," Franca briefly described without mentioning parts that might remind Luo Shan of the Dreamscape.

Jenna then added, "You need to be more careful lately. The claws of dark forces are also trying to approach Zhou Mingrui, directly or indirectly targeting those who have helped him. We’re worried they might come after you."

"Yeah, yeah," Luo Shan said as she pointed to a new painting and sketch hanging on the wall. "I've turned my room into a fortress; they can’t disturb my sleep."

Franca and Jenna followed Luo Shan's finger to see a painting with a parrot in vibrant colors.

Surrounded by abstract patches of color, the parrot's eyes seemed to move slightly as Franca and the others looked at it, as if it were saying, "Hey, I'm alive!"

After looking around the living room and bedroom, Jenna nodded and said, "The artist's abilities are indeed quite magical.

"But if you trust us, we can provide you with ultimate protection."

"How would you do that?" Luo Shan asked.

Jenna didn't hold back: "Give us some of your blood and hair, and we can make a Mirror Substitution for you. Well, the straight-line distance between our rooms barely falls within the range where this power is effective, and we can use the Shaman's space to shorten the distance, ensuring it works.

"But this also means we could use that mirror effigy to easily and accurately curse or even kill you."

Luo Shan fell silent for a moment.

After a long pause, she smiled and said, "You can give it a try. If you really wanted to kill me, there have been plenty of opportunities in the past few days."

Approaching midnight, Luo Shan, having already washed up, checked the windows and those paintings before lying down on her bed and turning off the lights.

In the deep darkness, Luo Shan quickly fell asleep, continuing to guard that faint barrier.

As time passed, the patches of color on the parrot painting in the living room suddenly began to shift.

The parrot, noticing this change, was about to cry out, but the patches of color rushed over, covering its mouth and pinning its wings.

Quickly, the parrot's feathers were absorbed and dissolved into those patches, becoming part of them.

The patches of color flowed out of the painting like liquid, leaving the canvas blank.

They silently flowed toward the bedroom, slipping through the door crack, and approached Luo Shan's bed.

Suddenly, the liquid formed from the patches of color rose up, transforming into a human figure.

The vibrant figure quietly watched the sleeping Luo Shan for two to three seconds.

Finally, it reverted to the liquid patches of color, retracing its path back to the painting in the living room.

The patches began to shift again, reconstructing the parrot and the background around it.

The parrot looked exactly the same as before, its eyes still lively.

The next morning, Luo Shan woke up.

She picked up her phone first, checked some messages, and then slowly got out of bed to inspect the bedroom and living room.

"Everything seems fine." Luo Shan breathed a sigh of relief and headed to the bathroom.

After parting ways with Luo Shan, Jenna and Franca went out to observe the Dreamscape characters who were slightly closer to Zhou Mingrui.

This was part of her and Anthony's latest mission.

Of course, she had briefly introduced herself to Hall Film Company, using her identity as a performing arts student.

And today, she and Anthony were scheduled to meet with Peng Deng, a very special character in the Dreamscape.

I wonder how many chapters there will be in the 6th volume, 79 chapters have already come out, and the story is not yet reaching the climax. Maybe there will be 200+ chapters again and we will enjoy the plot twist and a long fight at the end. The only thing that is clear is that Zaratul will definitely lose the 2nd sequence characteristic (or die oru2x ), the fate of a loser...

    (78) Chapter 962: Anonymous Tip

Ludwig ate quietly, while Anthony drove the car a bit further away, to a place shaded by trees, avoiding the harsh sunlight.

He slightly rolled down the car window to create a small gap, and Lumian formed an ice block to help with the cooling, as the old air conditioner wasn’t very effective.

They waited for over half an hour until they finally saw Miss Huang and entourage leaving the hospital, accompanied by police officers. Among them was Li Ke Ji, with his legs bound and hands cuffed.

As they saw the group getting into different cars and quickly leaving the hospital, Lumian received a message from the “Intis Group Grimm”:

“The target is being transferred to another psychiatric hospital for a new mental evaluation and police interrogation.

"After this round, we need to plan another operation."

"Understood," Lumian handed the phone to Anthony to show him the message from Grimm.

Lumian then said, "We can't interfere with the government’s internal struggles at the moment, but we need to do something secretly. Regardless of what happens a week later with the ‘Great Mother’ and her children's actions, we must consider that the Celestial Worthy’s subordinates might infiltrate the other hospital to eliminate Frank Lee's Dreamscape figure, just like they did with Danitz."

“They are fully capable of such an act,” Anthony nodded. "This is also a type of psychological manipulation. Most people would think Li Ke Ji is extremely safe, locked in a psychiatric ward with police guarding him, and that his powerful allies are working behind the scenes. Therefore, they might not expect any risky actions in the short term, leading them to lower their guard—this presents an excellent opportunity for assassination."

“Should we rescue Li Ke Ji in the next two days?” Lumian asked uncertainly.

Anthony calmly replied, "If we rescue him, he’ll truly become a wanted man. Where do you plan to hide him?

"This might also lead the police to suspect us, which would mean we’d be confronting the Dreamscape's consciousness and potentially exposing ourselves to the Celestial Worthy."

“Hide him within the picture?” Lumian pondered in response.

“The Painter’s group created a world within the paintings and mirrors, which are separate and not directly connected. To move from one world to another, one must first access the corresponding painting.

"In other words, if we hide Li Ke Ji in the world within a painting, as long as we guard that painting, we won’t need to worry about anyone infiltrating or using other means to investigate.”

Before Anthony could respond, Lumian smiled and continued, "It might not be a good idea to recklessly rescue Li Ke Ji, we could change our strategy.

"We hide nearby and wait for the Celestial Worthy`s men to eliminate their target, then ambush and deal with them.

"When the time comes, I’ll collaborate with the Great Mother’s children to extract the fetus from Li Ke Ji's womb. You, Franca, and Jenna will disguise yourselves and ambush us, and I’ll pretend to be overpowered and lead the children away, missing the opportunity to eliminate Li Ke Ji’s offspring.

"Failing is better than being exposed, this way, at most Grimm will lose some of their trust in us."

As Lumian finished speaking, he took out his phone and sent a message to Jenna:

“Keep a close eye on Luo Shan lately.”

If Zaratulstra and the Celestial Worthy`s men are eliminating certain Dreamscape characters, they may target those who have directly or indirectly helped Zhou Mingrui. Recently, Lou Shan, who warned Zhou Mingrui, might be one of their top targets.

Lumian had previously shared information about Zaratulstra, so Jenna and Franca quickly understood his intention and replied with a simple "Got it."

Both sides immediately used the Information Shredder to erase their conversation records.

“Where to now? Back home?” Anthony asked, glancing at the still bright sunlight outside.

Lumian thought carefully for a moment before replying, “Let’s go to the Star Dream Provisions Store.”

Anthony didn’t ask why; he just rolled up the car windows and started the car.

More than twenty minutes later, they arrived at their destination.

While Anthony and Ludwig went to line up at a nearby bakery, Lumian entered the Star Dream Provisions Store and walked up to the cashier, politely asking the store owner:

    “Do we have any mail?”

The store owner, who was playing with his phone, nodded, took out an envelope, and placed it on the counter.

Lumian opened it on the spot and began reading:

"Regarding the incident with the deputy director of Mushu Hospital, we have communicated with the Blood Clan Duke and the higher-ups of the Church of the Earth Mother. For now, we haven’t found anything unusual with Lady Roland, and the Gods' blessed haven’t received any warnings from the Earth Mother in this matter.

"Are you suggesting that the hospital director of Mushu might be the Dreamscape figure of the Earth Mother? We can confirm that it hasn’t reached that level yet, according to divine hints. So, don't worry about what the director of Mushu Hospital is called, unless it’s Omebella.”

“Madam Magician sure is good at telling scary stories, truly a master storyteller,” Lumian mumbled to himself, then continued reading:

“The name Stiano was quite famous in the Fourth Epoch. His full name is Yorgos Stiano. He was one of the founders of the Moses Ascetic Order, but later left the order and disappeared for a long time. It is said that after the War of the Four Emperors and before the Pale Disaster, he became a True God. Yes, you’ve guessed it, who he is. Also, remember, when you return to reality, don’t use any supernatural power to speak this name."

"So, it really is the God of Steam and Machinery. I’ve added a True God to my WeChat, and He even helped with a small program. Still very approachable... If Anthony finds out this was the God he once believed in, and probably still does to some extent, I wonder how he’ll react. Will his emotions break through the control of the Spectator instinct?" Lumian thought as he tucked the letter into his Traveler’s Bag.

Then, he took out his phone and sent Anderson Hood a WeChat message:

"Perhaps it's time for you to turn yourself in."

After three or four minutes, "A name that leaves a deep impression on you" came back:

"For so many years, there have been very few people who could surprise and bewilder me for a while; now, you're one of them.

"Are you planning to go to the police station to report clues about Danitz's death?"

Lumian brought the phone close to his mouth and smiled as he said:

"I intend to write the names of all the suspects involved in Danitz's murder in a complaint letter and hand it over to the police department, using the government's power to trouble that person. Ideally, it would cause significant harm to him, and as for the others, their fates would be no different from yours.

"In that case, why don't you just go and confess yourself? That way, I wouldn't have to write the complaint letter."

These words were quickly converted into text and sent to Anderson Hood.

    Anderson Hood replied swiftly:

"Are you worried that by writing a complaint, you’ll also catch the government's attention, so you're trying to push me into confessing to lower your own risk to the minimum?

"Don't worry, the primary purpose of the setup was to catch Danitz off guard, not to carry out the act, so no trace was left at the scene. We also used powerful forces to create a strong alibi. Otherwise, as Danitz's roommate, I would have already been investigated.

"That person is also extremely cautious and left no effective clues. However, by bothering him and distracting him, we can draw the police’s attention to this name, which isn’t a bad idea.

"Go ahead and report, just don’t mention my name."

Lumian clicked his tongue, walked back to the counter, and said to the store owner:

"Can you help me write a letter?"

Seeing the store owner lift his head to look at him, with the brilliant sunlight outside being obscured by clouds, Lumian chuckled at himself and said:

    "I'm illiterate and can't write."

The store owner smiled gently and asked, "What do you want to write?"

After thinking for a few seconds, Lumian said:

"Danitz's death is related to Zaratulstra. He plotted to kill Danitz."

The store owner put down the phone, took out a pen and paper, and quickly wrote down those words, finally asking:

    "How many copies?"

"Three." Lumian reduced the number to the minimum.

After the store owner finished writing, Lumian thanked him, took the three complaint letters, and went to the Magic Mirror Arrodes.

He reached out and pressed his hand on the ancient silver mirror.

He wanted to test whether the so-called great magic mirror was connected to the area behind the mirror, which did not belong to the world inside the mirror.

Before the mirror could reflect any text, Lumian's body suddenly moved forward, quickly becoming incorporeal, and entered the mirror.

In an instant, he found himself in the dark void behind the mirror.

"Magic mirrors are also mirrors. Indeed, if even regular mirrors can be used as mirrors, then there's no reason a genuine magic mirror shouldn't count," Lumian muttered to himself as he assessed the surroundings.

He found that the area behind Magic Mirror Arrodes was somewhat different from other mirrors:

The surrounding darkness was deeper, as if covered by an invisible veil, and behind it, pairs of eyes were watching him, with something incomprehensible quietly flowing.

Sure enough, it's special... Lumian wasted no time, combining the Major Arcana cards for the police station layout with his own sensory map of various mirrors, choosing one to pass through.

He intended to use the world inside the mirror to "submit" the complaint letters!

Very quickly, he reached his target, brought the mirror close to the glass surface, and observed the situation outside.

A second later, he saw a person.

That person was wearing a neat white shirt with black epaulets and a police officer's rank insignia on the shoulders. He was a rigid-looking middle-aged man with dark hair streaked with gray, and deep brown, almost black eyes that were looking at the mirror Lumian was in.

Lumian quickly pulled back, feeling as if he had been seen by the man.

This was the office of the chief of the First Police Station, and that man was the highest-ranking leader of the Dream City Police Force, Yagates.

No, he has a different person corresponding to him in the dream. I think we saw him a few times, but he definitely showed up with dream Leonard in Klein chapters.

Based on the above, it is more logical to directly ask whether he does translation into Russian or not.

PS: his nickname can also be Belarusian or Ukrainian. in all three languages this nickname is written the same. and if you are still interested in nationality, then pay attention to the second word in the nickname of Maxim. it can be a surname. which indicates the supposed nationality. or it is "Fool's" in one of the Eastern European languages.

I think you're not the only one interested. But given the ambiguity and the difficult situation, others don't ask.
