Soul of Negary奈格里之魂

SON is a novel written with one of the most interesting concepts I've ever read. The story of a vengeful ghost redefining themself while also creating their own unorthodox method to power. It is the good old story of a cultivator defying the heavens but this cultivator is an intelligent and ambitious ghost whereas the heavens is everything else. All the characters especially the leaders of the powers are intelligent in their own right. They can hatch plots upon plots and are scheming bastards to the core.
The first few arcs are very well crafted and written with the sub-plots capable of being their own stories. Because this story can be said to also be a semi-anthology with Negary being the thread that joins them. In fact most of the story, Negary does not appear only manipulating things from the shadows like the true players of the game.
But then it goes a bit downhill. The story after the translated chapters focus too much on the other characters and for a moment a person may even forget what the story is. Also the writing for these few parts until the final arc really weakens. The worlds don't feel as unique though the characters feel alive. In the latter half of the novel, Negary becomes a side character with the sub plots being the focus. This may be because the more powerful Negary gets the more broad the meaning is
In truth, even the sub plots feature Negary for he is ambition and the fire of the will itself. It is the part of us that strive towards improvement and making ourselves greater. Unfortunately, the stories themself are unable to hold their own against this grand ideal with a few exceptions.

In the end, Soul of Negary is a story of advancement and progression of a remnant of a dead man who becomes the reason for the life of others. 4/5

The novel had been good until the 4th arc, then it became really quite bad. Rating is severely affected, 4.25 -> 3.5, taking into account the good and the bad — this arc alone is ~2 stars.

Expect the first arc to be the best among the first four, with a slight decrease in quality as the novel progresses, but all very good except for the last.

great read, finished the rest of the novel on novelhi -- the translation was good at the begging, started to taper of near the end of what is available here and after chapter 400 I started reading at novelhi.

The story as a whole is great. Bit sad you lose the viewpoint of the MC negary after he starts to world jump. Although the other characters the author uses to show and progress negary's plans are well written so the multiple pov is still really interesting.

The ending was a confusing as heck though. But the author had the good conscious to end the story without dragging it on.

a good novel, but not without its flaws:

1. negary pretends to be god, but this pretense is dropped later on with no explanation. this makes it feel like his followers are putting on a show of treating him like he's a god despite the fact that everyone knows he's just an evil spirit (to which he never denies or tries to hide).

2. there are parts of the novel that focus on the side characters. these can give a "filler" feel, making everything appear slow and off putting. if anyone has read or watched the anime for "so i'm a spider, so what" you'll understand what i mean. the spider's POV is exciting, and while the human classmates POV is just as important, the feeling is similar.

if you can look past or skip these characteristics, then this novel is high quality. but i feel that little imperfections like this is what sets apart a true masterpiece like LOTM. people might not be able to put it in words, but they will definitely be able to compare and feel.

TLDR; so if you're expecting something stunning, look elsewhere. but for the casual enjoyer, this novel is safe to read. quality assured :)
