    I don't understand why so many people recommended this novel, the MC is a loner and barely communicates with anyone else. When he finally does, they're always plotting against him or something similar. What a sad, boring story. The pace is slow, lots of useless details are extensively described, and the MC doesn't have anything or anyone important to him besides himself. He is like a robot, spending every single second of his life in cultivation, looking for gu, and killing people who keep plotting against him for some reason. Even if that makes him able to live for hundreds of years, is that really a life worth living?

    I can only hope the MC will be able to find some friends later on, but I won't be staying to find out.

      Do as you please, but you probably missed the part where he has 500 years and used to be rank 6, while his dream is eternal life.
      Here, brother aside, noone has any real chances to go past rank 3, meaning he'll have to carry them like an unnecessary baggage wherever he goes, for the rest of his life, while the world is far, and they do emphasis that, FAR too dangerous for that.
      That aside, be it their ambitions, knowledge, or anything, noone introduced so far even wants to follow similar path to Fang Yuan, prefering a warm clan, so befriending them will be utterly meaningless, when he'll leave them for probably forever in the future.

      You see, he looks further than any of them, and even if he will get into closer contact with someone, it will have to be someone who will be able to match his speed at the very least.
      So no, there is absolutely no reason to cultivate friendship and love with those people that we'll forget about in next few hundred chapters.
      (And from reader's perspective, I'd prefer if such people that follow MC are at least smart and interesting. World is big tho, there probably will be someone like that.)

      Sad, maybe.
      But I don't see why that makes it boring; since generally, the conflict only serves to make the story less so.

      Slow pace isn't necessarily a detriment.
      And "extensively described" is an overstatement. Most webnovels barely include details in the first place; RI is just a step above that.

      Compared to detail oriented books like "Lord of the Rings," RI is quite tame. Lord of the Rings had a entire page explaining what a hobbit looked like, and included an entire elvish language, made by the author.

      Even if that makes him able to live for hundreds of years, is that really a life worth living?

      From the beggining, FY had three options; befriend people like Shen Cui, the Demonic path, or death. The first option would bring him more pain then the second and third paths combined, which is obviously bad.
      The remaining choices depend on the person, and shouldn't be criticized.

      I think the point about characters like FY is that they're not really part of the story, you're not really supposed to root for them to live a happy good life. The interesting part is how they intrude on other people's lives and how these people react to this unstoppable force, whether it's ignorance or caution.
      The FY of the previous life was the real Main Character, Discarded and betrayed by everyone and still managed to reach the peak. He Lived through his life, feeling and going through every emotion. The FY of this life really just a passerby. Everyone on the path is inconsequential till he reaches Immortality. Maybe once he's reached this goal he'll change, but until then he's just an obsessed maniac who can't see anything but survivor and power.
      It's Sad, maybe. But it's just that kinda story. MC thinks he's free the chains of society but he's just a slave to his desire for Immortality. But that's Alright since True freedom wouldn't really make an interesting story. Atleast he has a purpose he can delude himself and the readers with

        You really need to read more to understand the intricacies of this story, yes Fang Yuan is a slave (no chess piece) and he doesn't even know that at this point...but not to his desire to become immortal

        And yes this Fang Yuan is a passerby at least till he gets out of this damn mountain...and that will be when the real story begin
